In a long awaited change in policy, the UFC have deemed that athletes who test positive for carboxy-THC will no longer face suspensions or fines (H/T MMA Junkie). Carboxy-THC is the ingredient in marijuana that has led to huge amounts of controversy within MMA. Nick Diaz was notoriously handed a 5 year suspension in 2015, for testing postive following his fight against Anderson Silva.

More recently UFC fighters such as Jamahal Hill have had their wins overturned, whilst Tim Elliot and Luis Pena have been fined percentages of their fight purses. Hill was quick to react to the news, with the undefeated prospect looking to get his win back.

However the change in policy has not had a positive impact on all fighters. Niko Price has revealed that there has been no change to his suspension, following his draw with Donald Cerrone.

Angela Hill stated that she believes the new policy should serve as an example to the state athletic commissions as well.

Other fighters such as Lauren Murphy, Louis Smolka and Randy Costa have also voiced their approval of move away from the archaic doping policy.

What are your thoughts on this change in policy?

Angela Hill is the latest fighter to be forced out of their scheduled match-up due to a positive COVID-19 test result.

The popular strawweight was supposed to take part in a highly anticipated rematch with Tecia Torres on the undercard of UFC 256 on December 12. Unfortunately, that will no longer happen and Hill took to social media to explain why she wrote.

“Tested positive for Covid and won’t be fighting next week. Tried to stay as safe as possible during fightcamp but with mma training there’s virtually no social distancing. Was looking forward to running it back, maybe in the near future. #CovidFuckingUpEveryonesSeason #UFC256 Was a little sick over the weekend but feeling back to normal now. Would be trying to fight under different circumstances but thankful for my health and some time to recover”

Hill last fought in the main event of UFC Vegas 10 in September on short-notice, dropping a decision loss to Michelle Waterson. The defeat followed a hugely contentious split decision loss to one-time title challenger, Cláudia Gadelha at a UFC Fight Night Jacksonville event in May.

Torres looked on the brink of a UFC exit before his last fight against Brianna Van Buren. ‘The Tiny Tornado’ had lost four straight fights against Joanna J?drzejczyk, Jéssica Andrade, Rose Namajunas and Weili Zhang. Torres looked flawless against Van Buren picking up a unanimous decision win and maintaining her status as a UFC fighter.

A strawweight rematch five years after the first pairing has been booked for UFC 256 on December 12. Perennial contender, Tecia ‘Tiny Tornado’ Torres and former Invicta FC strawweight champion, the always-active, Angela ‘Overkill’ Hill are set to meet once again, following their UFC 188 clash in June of 2015.

Massachusetts native, Torres looks to score her second victory of the year and another win over Hill, following a unanimous decision triumph over another former Invicta FC 115-pound titleholder, Brianna Van Buren at UFC Vegas 3 in June. The victory snapped a four-fight skid for Torres.

Making her staggering fifth Octagon appearance of 2020 alone, popular fan-favourite, Hill last featured in the main event of UFC Vegas 10 in September on short-notice, dropping a unanimous decision loss to former Invicta FC atomweight best, Michelle Waterson. The defeat followed a hugely-contentious split decision loss to one-time title challenger, Cláudia Gadelha at a UFC Fight Night Jacksonville event in May. News of the strawweight re-run was first reported by MMA Junkie reporter, Nolan King.

11-5 as a professional, from four of those five blemishes, Torres has dropped decision defeats to former division titleholders, Joanna J?drzejczyk, Jéssica Andrade, and Rose Namajunas – as well as a judging loss to current champion, Zhang Weili

Prior to her loss to Brazilian powerhouse, Andrade – Torres has managed a three-fight unbeaten run which included victories over common-opponent, Waterson, Juliana Lima, and current Bellator contender, Bec Rawlings.

Hill featured on the twentieth instalment of The Ultimate Fighter alongside Torres back in October of 2014 – before dropping a judging loss to the latter at UFC 188 the following June. Securing Invicta FC gold, the Maryland native took home a close split decision win over Livia Renata Souza, before notching a successful title defence against Kaline Medeiros.

Since her second stint under the UFC’s banner began back in February 2017 – Hill has amassed a 6-7 record, managing triumphs against Ashley Yoder, Maryna Moroz, Jodie Esquibel, Ariane Carnelossi, Hannah Cifers, and a February win over Loma Lookboonmee.

Angela Hill Reflects On Michelle Waterson Loss: ‘It Sucks Man’

Strawweight contender Angela Hill has opened up about her split decision loss against Michelle Waterson in the UFC Vegas 10 main event this past weekend. ‘Overkill’ told media post-fight of her disappointment in falling short in a second consecutive fight that she believes she’d won.

“It sucks, man,” Hill said following her defeat. “I keep ending up in this position where I put my all into getting the finish and getting the decision and it just doesn’t go my way. I definitely felt like I did more damage in that fight.”

Hill looked great early and sailed into a two-round lead. The 35-year-old explained that despite Waterson’s resurgence in the later round she thinks the decision should have gone her way.

“I lost the third round because I couldn’t get up,” Hill said. “I felt bad about kicking her in the face, but I was aiming for the chest. And then the fourth, I didn’t go forward enough. I was worried about the takedown too much. In the fifth, I finally said (explicit) it and went forward and did everything that I should’ve done in the fourth round, and I still didn’t get that fifth round. It sucks.

This latest loss has Hill considering a change in tactics moving forward.

“It was close,” Hill said. “This fight was a lot closer than the (Claudia) Gadelha fight when it came to strikes landed because she was landing some push kicks to the face and a couple of side kicks when I was hesitating. I thought this fight was closer than the last one. I tried to blitz her, but I felt like I did way more damage. It sucks I’m on the losing end again. I have to start taking (explicit) down again, hugging them more.” (Transcribed by MMA Junkie)

Earlier tonight (Sat. September 12, 2020) UFC Fight Night: Waterson vs Hill took place from the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The facility played host to a match-up between two ranked women’s flyweight’s Michelle Waters and Angela Hill. The five-round war resulted in Waterson edging out a split decision to emerge victoriously. After fighting through adversity early the Karate Hottie was able to rally and win out the later rounds of the fight. In the co-main event, rising prospects clashed as Ottman Azaitar took on Khama Worthy. The punching power of Azaitar proved to be too much securing the knockout earlier in round one and retaining his undefeated record. Outside of these two fights, there were plenty of moments warranting of bonuses.

Fight of the Night came in the main event between Michelle Waterson and Angela Hill. As the fight began Hill established some dominance on the feet landing effective shots on Waterson while defending the takedown attempts. In the second round, Hill continued to show striking superiority while Waterson managed to have slightly more success on the feet. The third round opened with Hill landing some effective shots followed by Waterson landing a takedown and dominating the action on the ground. In the fourth round, Hill seemed to have slowed down as Waterson took the lead on the feet landing more shots and winning out the round. In the fifth, it was fairly even going to the decision in which Waterson took the win.

The First Performance of the Night bonus went to Kevin Croom in his debut fight against Roosevelt Roberts. Croom defied the oddsmakers landing a 0:31 second knockout victory.

In the final Performance of the Night, Ottman Azaitar showcased his knockout power against fellow rising prospect Khama Worthy. Azaitar retained his undefeated record and set himself up for a higher-ranked opponent securing the knockout in 1:33.
