Cyborg has been officially charged for punching Angela Magana at last weekend’s UFC fighter retreat from Las Vegas.

According to a report from MMA Junkie’s Steven Marrocco, officer Larry Hadfield of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) revealed that Justino was cited for misdemeanor battery for the incident after receiving a call to the JW Marriott in Las Vegas at approximately 2:30 p.m. yesterday (Sun., May 21, 2017).

The LVMPD investigated the scene and then cited Justino after Magana stated she wanted to press charges. Magana reportedly transported herself to the hospital to treat minor injuries, and later denied that a TMZ Sports recounting of the scenario was true. The charges will now be reviewed by the Clark County district attorney’s office, who will decide to press official charges on Justino or not.

Officer Hadfield described the call as a ‘minor crime,’ noting that it was among the lower of those they routinely deal with:

“This is a misdemeanor crime, which is the lowest of Nevada penalties,” said Hadfield. “When they found probable cause to believe the crime had occurred, they cited that other individual. For us, it’s a very minor call, I guess you could say.”

Magana later confirmed she had not suffered the loss of a tooth as had been speculated, showing a photo of herself online. She said all the details would come out when the police report was released, and said it was the UFC rather than herself who had contacted police.

With several supposedly ‘sue-happy’ lawyers contacting her to get a suit brewing against Cyborg, Magana said she hadn’t decided to take that route yet but did press charges for the assault.

Overall, it’s the last thing Cyborg needs to deal with, as her public discontent with the UFC has recently bubbled over into a public spat, with a potential interim featherweight title fight against Megan Anderson in the works for July’s UFC 214.

It’s difficult to say if this incident will have any affect on that potential fight happening, but overall it’s safe to say that it’s simply not a good look for the woman who most consider to be the greatest pound-for-pound female fighter in UFC history – and perhaps ever.

Cyborg will now face potential charges from the Clark County DA’s office, with the maximum punishment being six months in jail and a $1,000 fine. But with Officer Hadfield downplaying the arrest as one of the lowest kinds of crimes the LVMPD usually deals with, her charges could be reduced to only community service.

Her discord with Magana surfaced after “Her Majesty,” a UFC women’s strawweight who hasn’t fought since a 2015 submission loss to Michelle Waterson, repeatedly made fun of her physical appearance and past use of steroids in numerous Twitter posts. Now, it’s up to the courts to decide if Cyborg should be dealt legal punishment for the assault, which was posted online in a video from Cagepages.com earlier today.

Does Cyborg deserve to face the music for punching Magana, or did the outspoken trash talker simply get what she deserves in your opinion?

Last night the MMA world was thrown into upheaval when news arrived that Cristiane “Cyborg” Justino had punched UFC women’s strawweight Angela Magana at the UFC fighter retreat in Las Vegas.

Earlier today, Magana took to Twitter to reveal her side of the story and the details of the ongoing potential criminal charges against Cyborg, and now video of the incident has surfaced from Cage Pages on YouTube:

As we can see, it may not have been the all-out slobberknocker that saw reports say Magana lost a tooth from, but apparently it was enough for Las Vegas police to be contacted and file battery charges against Cyborg.

A report came from TMZ Sports describing Magana’s injuries that also stated she called the police, something she said was completely untrue:

“Cops say Magana — a 33 year old UFC strawweight — transported herself to the hospital and was treated. According to the narrative, a doctor at the hospital diagnosed A.M. with an “acute head injury, cervical strain, and laceration of the lip.

“She returned to her hotel room and called cops.”

Magana said the TMZ recount was completely untrue, insisting that it was the UFC who called the police:

One day after Angela Magana was reportedly punched by Cris ‘Cyborg’ Justino at the UFC fighter retreat, the MMA world has been dealt a predictably strange fallout for the scene.

First, Magana tweeted she was the victim of ‘roid rage,’ revealing that lawyers were contacting her ‘left and right’:

Magana then clarified that she had all of her teeth but would be pressing charges after the police had been contacted by the UFC, not her:

Faced with backlash, Magana then went on to invoke the time when Cyborg was threatening to sue Ronda Rousey for suggesting she used steroids:

People were quick to blast Magana for supposedly suing Cyborg, but she fired back she was not officially suing and had only been contacted about it:

Magana then continued to berate Cyborg, calling her a bully who took steroids in order to beat up smaller fighters, which therefore made her look masculine:

And while she’s facing criticism for ‘poking the bear,’ Magana noted that posting rude tweets doesn’t give Cyborg free reign to assault people:

Magana continued to discuss the details of the incident, stating that the cops called her and were looking into felony assault charges for the incident:

Finally, “Her Majesty” poked back at Cyborg, suggesting that she would be arrested for a felony and lose her job as well:

So it looks like the mess is about to get a lot messier, and Cyborg could actually ended up facing very serious charges for her decision to assault Magana, who fights at two weight classes below Cyborg and isn’t exactly relevant in the UFC beyond her controversy-inspiring social media presence (let’s be honest).

With a potentially huge title fight versus Megan Anderson on the line for Cyborg at July’s UFC 214, it’s safe to wonder if all this was actually worth it for her.

Cris Cyborg is doing more than enough to stay in the public eye and earn a high-profile UFC bout.

The former Invicta FC featherweight champion, who is far and away the best 145-pound female fighter in the sport and arguably the most dominant pound-for-pound woman in MMA overall, reportedly took offense to some incredibly personal tweets from The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) competitor and UFC women’s strawweight Angela Magana.

And according to a report from Ariel Helwani, when Cyborg ran into “Her Majesty” at this weekend’s UFC fighter retreat in Las Vegas, she had enough of the abuse and confronted Magana. Things escalated from there and Cyborg ended up punching Magana:

Apparently Magana was rocked but did not fall to the ground from the punch before security broke up the altercation:

After the scuffle, Helwani said tensions remained high in the area and security was present to control the situation:

But Magana’s close friend and fellow UFC women’s strawweight Bec Rawlings replied to explain that Magana wasn’t rocked and took the punch well despite having a busted lip:

Long feared as the most dangerous knockout striker to ever fight in women’s MMA, Cyborg has had trouble finding opponents who are even close to her size or skill level, leading to the suggestions that she has never had legitimate competition in the cage.

She’s currently campaigning for a bout with current Invicta FC featherweight champion Megan Anderson in an effort to show everyone she can defeat an elite fighter her size (well, in her weight class), but today, it seems she’s still taking it to women who are quite a bit smaller than she is.

But hey, it’s easy to see why Justino lost her cool after all the shaming social media posts she made about Cyborg over the past few years.
