Anthony Johnson is back in the Octagon after an absence of more than a year, and he looks great.
Johnson, who had been sidelined since 2009 with a knee injury, stepped up and destroyed former No. 1 welterweight contender Dan Hardy Saturday at UFC Fight Night 24.
For Johnson, it was a big win that shows that when he’s healthy and in shape, he’s a force to be reckoned with at 170 pounds. For Hardy, the showed, a year after he lost his welterweight title fight to Georges St. Pierre, that he still doesn’t have much in the way of takedown defense or ability to fight off his back. Any good wrestler is going to give Hardy problems until he shores up those weaknesses.

SEATTLE — All fighters made weight at the Key Arena on Friday afternoon, clearing the way for UFC Fight Night 24 to take place as scheduled on Saturday night.
Though all eyes were on Anthony Johnson, who admitted he’d gotten up to sixty pounds over the welterweight limit while being sidelined with an injury, “Rumble” came in on target with help from the one-pound allowance, which his opponent, Dan Hardy, also took full advantage of. Full results from Friday afternoon’s weigh-in are below.

SEATTLE — Here’s how you know Dan Hardy and Anthony Johnson are buds: Hardy can make fun of Johnson’s weight, and Johnson can make fun of Hardy’s face, and yet at the end of the day they can still smile and agree to try and knock each other unconscious like gentlemen.
“We’re cool,” Johnson said of Hardy during Thursday’s UFC Fight Night 24 workouts. “I saw him last night. I came in and got a workout in and I saw some dude, ugly with crazy hair, and I started squinting. I was like, oh sh-t, that’s Dan. I came up to him and gave him a hug, chatted for like a minute, and said our goodbyes and split. I mean, we’re friends right now, but obviously we have something to do. We’re not here to chit-chat; we’re here to handle business. But we still show each other that mutual respect.”
