Phil “Mr. Wonderful” Davis has lived up to his nickname so far in his MMA career.

Davis is 9-0, (5-0 in the UFC), and holds wins over middleweight stand out Brian Stann and Antonio Rogerio Nogueira.

Because of his mixture of good wrestling and slick submissions, Davis has become one of the UFC’s fastest rising stars.

Often young fighters will call out tougher competition with the hope of moving up the divisional rankings.

Davis on the other hand has had opportunities come to him.

After originally being booked to Matt Hamill, then Jason Brillz, Davis replaced Tito Ortiz to face Nogueira at UFC Fight Night 24.

Davis got past his biggest test to date, but showed us that he still has some improvements to make.

He will get an even bigger test in competition as he takes on Rashad Evans at UFC 133.

Evans is a former UFC light heavyweight champion who was well on his way to another title fight. Unfortunately for him, his former teammate and UFC champion Jon Jones had to pull out of their fight due to a hand injury.

Instead of waiting for his title shot like he had done for almost a year, Evans decided to take the fight against Davis.

Like Evans, Davis is a good wrestler. But wrestling aside, will Davis have enough tools to be competitive with Evans?

Evans will have much better striking coming into this fight. He will also have experience and knows how to handle pressure in a big fight.

Not only will Davis feel the pressure of being in such a big fight, he will also feel the pressure to perform well in his home state.

Davis is one of the division’s bright young stars. But I believe this will be the fight that he loses and learns from.

The “Korean Zombie Jung Chan-Sung made history at UFC Fight Night 24 in March when he defeated Leonard Garcia with the “Twister,” one of the most rare and painful submission in MMA.

The submission, which became a huge hit on YouTube as well as message boards throughout the internet, is a difficult yet highly effective maneuver which exploded into popularity as it was the first time it was used in a UFC fight.

Though he admits that he learned the move from watching legendary jiu-jitsu expert Eddie Bravo on YouTube, the Korean Zombie has released his own instructional video in which he explains his own twist on how to apply the twister submission.

The training victim in the video is fellow South Korean fighter, Jang Yong “The Beast” Kim.

You will see one video attached here, but if you would like to see part two, which explains more on the submission, you can view it here.

According to UFC.com, a featherweight bout between Alex “Bruce Leroy” Caceres and Leonard “Bad Boy” Garcia has been setup for UFC on Versus 5 in Milwaukee on August 14. The bout was verbally agreed by both parties as of Tuesday, the website confirms.

Garcia, who debuted for the company in 2007, competed at lightweight before dropping down to the featherweight division in the WEC, compiling a record of 4-3-1. Garcia returned to the UFC last year, that saw him earn a controversial decision over Nam Phan at “The Ultimate Finale 12”. More recently, fans saw Garcia lose to Chan Sung Jung via submission at UFC Fight Night 24

Coincidentally Caceres made his debut at UFC Fight Night 24 that saw him end in defeat via submission to Mackens Semerzier.

Both competitors will look to rebound with a win, as they look to remain relevant in the featherweight division.

Eddie Bravo ‘Blown Away’ by Chan Sung Jung’s Twister Submission

With the possible exception of Chan Sung Jung himself, perhaps no one was more excited to see “The Korean Zombie” use the twister to submit Leonard Garcia at UFC Fight Night 24 than Eddie Bravo – the grappler who’s credited with bringing the move to prominence in MMA and jiu-jitsu competitions.

“I was blown away,” Bravo told MMA Fighting. “It was surreal.”

Bravo has been teaching the twister – along with other mainstays of his style, such as the rubber guard – out of his 10th Planet Jiu-Jitsu school in southern California for years. But Jung’s use of the move marked the first time a UFC fight was ever finished with the twister. Considering where Bravo first learned it, he said, the fact that it took this long to be used in MMA’s largest organization might be the most surprising part of the story.

If ever there was an event to make aspiring fighters get out their singlets and focus on their wrestling skills, UFC Fight Night 24 was it.

The ability to successfully complete and/or defend the takedown was the deciding factor in most of the fights on Saturday night. By the end, I think half the arena had unconsciously learned how to shoot a single-leg just from seeing it done over and over and over again. Bet that made for some interesting after-parties.

So who were the biggest winners, losers, and everything in between after Saturday night’s wrestle-fest? The answers await you below.
