Anthony Pettis is coming off of a decision loss to Nate Diaz at UFC 241. It was a fight both fighters wanted, and “Showtime” just couldn’t get anything going in the fight. To make matters worse, he broke his foot in the fight.

Now, what is next for Pettis is a big question. He could go back down to lightweight, or he could stay at welterweight. If his coach, Duke Roufus, had any say, he wants him to stay at welterweight. And, he has some intriguing fights for him.

“An interesting fight that I think would be kind of fun is Diego Sanchez and Anthony (Pettis) – two old-school, crazy Latino legends of the sport,” Roufus said to MMA Junkie. “If you want to talk about barnburners, that would be fun.”

Diego Sanchez vs. Anthony Pettis would no doubt be a very entertaining fight between two fan favorites. However, if that fight can’t come together, Roufus would like his pupil to take on former title challenger, Carlos Condit.

“I think former champion Carlos Condit would be fun, especially at 170,” Roufus said. “I like those two fights a lot. We’ll see what happens if it matches up. I mean, now I’d just like to see another fun fight that motivates him to want to keep doing great things.”

That fight seems unlikely to happen as of right now, given the fact Condit was just booked to fight Mickey Gall. But, Roufus thinks both would be fun fights for Anthony Pettis.

However, those fights are if he stays at welterweight, which is not certain. Pettis is still a contender at lightweight, but for Roufus, he thinks Pettis should just be having fun fights and enjoying his career now.

“He happens to be a contender in both divisions now,” Roufus said. “It’s a fun time. It would be great to win a title and stuff like that. But as a career person, it’s always fun to enjoy your job and he’s having a fun time enjoying his job right now – and that’s all he could ask at this stage of his career.”

Who do you think Anthony Pettis should fight next?

Gregor Gillespie has finally called someone out.

The undefeated lightweight has not fought since January and many were wondering where he has been. He rarely does interviews and instead focuses on his time on fishing and training.

Yet, he has now decided to call someone out as he took to Instagram to release a video calling out Anthony Pettis to fight him at UFC 244. He believes “Showtime” is in the wrong weight class and wants to welcome him back to 155-pounds.

“So for the last 6 fights everyone has been pressuring and annoying me to call someone out….I never wanted to but it looks like I am going to have to play the game…I want my first “call out” to count so…… @showtimepettis I think you are a great fighter, but you are in the wrong weight class, come back down to 155 and meet me at MSG on November 2.
@arielhelwani @danawhite@showtimepettis @ufc @seanshelby”

Gregor Gillespie is currently 13-0 and 6-0 inside the Octagon. “The Gift” is coming off of a dominating TKO win over Yancy Medeiros back in January. His other wins are over Vinc Pichel, Jordan Rinaldi, Jason Gonzalez, Andrew Holbrook, and Glaico Franca. Before making it to the Las Vegas-based promotion he was the Ring of Combat lightweight champion and his final fight on the regional scenes was a win over Contender Series-alum, Sidney Outlaw.

Anthony Pettis, meanwhile, is coming off of a decision loss to Nate Diaz at UFC 241. He also broke his foot in that fight. Before that, in his welterweight debut in the UFC, he knocked out Stephen Thompson. The former UFC lightweight champion also holds wins over Michael Chiesa, Benson Henderson, Gilbert Melendez, and Donald Cerrone among others.

Whether or not Gillespie will get his wish is to be seen as Pettis has yet to respond.

There is good news on the injury front for Anthony Pettis as he won’t require surgery on any of his injuries following UFC 241.

Pettis was outpointed by Nate Diaz in their UFC 241 co-main event this past weekend. “Showtime” notably injured his foot while attempting a leg kick on Diaz in the first round which compromised him for the remainder of the fight.

His official medical suspension of six months also mentioned a possible orbital fracture. However, according to his coach Duke Roufus, there is no need for surgery or any other procedures for both his injuries. Instead, Pettis just needs to focus on getting rest and recovery as he could make a December comeback.

“If healthy, maybe December, Las Vegas,” Roufus told MMA Fighting. “Here’s the thing, did he get the win? No. But man, you love to watch this guy fight. There’s something about his skills and most of the guys I train, especially the guys I train full time and a long time, is I try to teach them to be a promoter. That’s why I had a 20-year fight career and until recently I was even offered some fights, and I’m an old guy. Because you know what? I knew what this fight game’s about, entertainment.

“Sometimes you don’t win, but you entertain. There’s a lot of people out there fighting careful, going out there sparring, playing the system, kind of what Nate Diaz talks about. That’s why I really relate to what Nate Diaz talks about, these ‘real fighters.’ Not putting anyone down, I’m just saying the brand of fighting that I instill in a lot of my guys, they’re doing well and having great careers and it’s exciting. … I think that’s what’s exciting about Anthony. You’re waiting, ‘will he pull it out?’ He doesn’t win every time, but man, he sure gives the fans some fights.”

Do you agree with Roufus? Who do you want to see Pettis face at welterweight next now that he’s 1-1 in the division?
