Anthony Smith would “love” the opportunity to fight Jiri Prochazka.

‘Lionheart’ is currently scheduled to square off against Ryan Spann on September 18. Meanwhile, Prochazka is expected to play backup for the upcoming light-heavyweight title fight between Jan Blachowicz and Glover Teixeira which will take place at UFC 267 on October 30.

In a recent interview with LowKickMMA, Smith expressed his admiration for Prochazka who he believes more than earned his backup spot with a fantastic performance against Dominick Reyes last time out.

“I would love to fight that guy. It just looks like it’s so much fun.” Smith said. “And honestly, he fought Dominick Reyes exactly how I would fight Dominick Reyes. Just get in tight, make it ugly, make him uncomfortable, don’t give him any space.”

The former light-heavyweight title challenger talked up a future fight between him and Prochazka.

“It would be bananas. It would be chaos,” Smith said. “Those are the kinds of fights that everybody’s really, really excited (about). I don’t have to like, be super focused on anything. I don’t have to worry about extra striking or extra jujitsu or extra wrestling. You’ve just got to get your sword as sharp as you can get it and just go in there and swing the god damn thing. That’s a lot of fun to me.

“Behind all that flashy unpredictability and the spinning sh*t and just the craziness that he does, it’s just pressure. That’s all he’s doing, he’s just pressuring people, and that’s what I like to do,” Smith added. “So, I feel like it would just be two hammers banging into each other. It would be a lot of fun. I feel like it would look like a really incredible game of bumper cars. You know, it’s just, you have to go in there and figure it out.”

Anthony Smith Dismisses Conor McGregor’s ‘Invalid’ Pre-Fight Injury Excuse

Anthony Smith isn’t buying Conor McGregor’s excuse for losing at UFC 264.

The Irishman suffered a nasty leg break in round one of his trilogy fight with Dustin Poirier earlier this month.

McGregor has since claimed that he had pre-existing stress fractures in his leg heading into the fight. The 33-year-olds claim has been met with skepticism by fighters, fans, doctors, and the Nevada State Athletic Commission.

Smith says McGregor’s pre-existing injury excuse isn’t valid as all fighters enter the Octagon less than 100 percent.

“Everyone who loses has an excuse. It’s new for Conor to be like that,” Smith said on SiriusXM’s Fight Nation. “I’m not the excuses guy but in my circle, all my friends know what’s going on. They know pre and they know post. Like, ‘I know you’re never gonna say this but what was going on here? I know you’ll never say this publicly because you don’t make excuses.’ And I’ll absolutely tell my friends what’s going on. (They) knew that my hand was broken going into the Glover (Teixeira) fight and I never said anything about it because it’s not an excuse! Glover probably had a broken hand. We all are injured.

“Going into the Jimmy Crute fight – I can talk about it because I won – my leg was f*cked. Totally f*cked. I couldn’t kick almost the entire training camp. I had this huge, huge hematoma and I’m lucky the commission didn’t catch it because I don’t know if they would have even let me fight. The point of that is we’re all banged up going in. The sport is very hard and you put your body – the fight’s the easiest part. Making it through a training camp as uninjured as possible is the tough part.”

‘Lionheart’ is confident Poirier was just as banged up as McGregor heading into UFC 264.

“I would say Conor wasn’t any more hurt than Dustin was going into that fight,” Smith said. “That’s not me saying Conor wasn’t banged up or his legs weren’t bothering him or his shin wasn’t cracked up or whatever, but he wasn’t any more injured that Dustin Poirier was. That’s my perspective at it from an athlete.

“It’s easy for a fan or someone who has never done it to say, ‘Oh, he was hurt.’ We’re all hurt. Every single one of us, every single time we fight. There’s not one person that can ever say they go in 100 percent healthy. So his excuses are very invalid to me. To the general public, it makes sense that they people would buy into that excuse but Conor knows that all of us don’t buy it because we’re all hurt too. That’s how I look at it, but he’s not lobbying to us. It’s to the general public, the buyers, the PPV buyers. Those are the people he needs to convince but he knows he’s never gonna convince us.” (Transcribed by MMA Fighting)

Jon Jones Responds To Anthony Smith’s Failed Drug Tests Claim

Jon JonesJon Jones has seemingly denied Anthony Smith’s claim that he failed every drug test in the build-up to their UFC 235 title fight. “The week of our fight, Jon failed every drug test. Jon Jones has seemingly denied Anthony Smith’s claim that he failed every drug test in the build-up to their UFC 235 title fight.

“The week of our fight, Jon failed every drug test. Whatever helps you sleep at night buddy,” Jones wrote on social media.

In March 2019 ‘Bones’ successfully defended his title against Smith with a lopsided points victory. ‘Lionheart’ famously continued to fight despite taking a flush illegal knee from Jones in round four of the fight

Smith has rebounded from the loss and is currently working his way back up the 205lb rankings. Until recently, he’d had a fairly friendly relationship with Jones, but things changed when the former light-heavyweight champion took shots at Smith for losing to Glover Teixeira and also commented on his old rival’s handling of a home invasion.

Ahead of his most recent bout with Jimmy Crute, Smith provided some interesting details on his relationship with Jon Jones and explained exactly what happened ahead of their title fight during an appearance on The Jenna Ben Show.

“I’m in the same place,” Smith said about Jones not being good person but a great fighter. “After the Glover fight, he had a lot of negative things to say and kind of had taken some shots at me for the break-in and kind of making fun of me which really was kind of out of left field. Because I’ve never attacked Jon personally.

“Up until that very point, he had never taken a shot at me personally. He’d obviously said he’s gonna kick my ass, he’s even said, ‘I don’t like that he said this,’ but he’s never been able to refute anything I said because I always talk about Jon very factually.

“He does this well, he does that well, he was suspended for this, but I never get into his drug test bullsh*t,” Smith added. “I never even told anyone Jon failed every drug test the entire week leading up to our fight. Every single drug test. I never brought it up one time in any interview, in any media thing, nothing. The commission called me every day to let me know he was still failing his drug tests. I never said anything, I let it be because I was just focused on myself and always believed that if you just focus on yourself you’re going to be that much more successful.”
