UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones wasn’t going to miss an opportunity to mock Anthony Smith when he’s down.

Smith suffered a fifth-round TKO defeat to Glover Teixeira in the UFC Jacksonville headliner on Saturday night. “Lionheart” was notably dominated throughout the fight as he barely survived until the referee stopped the contest in the final round.

Jones — who already defeated both fighters — was keeping a close eye on the bout as he took to social media to give his live reactions.

“Anthony Smith talking about outlasting me to become a world champion, Negro please ?

“Man Uncle Glover ain’t playing tonight”

“Was starting to wonder if Anthony was going to last until the championship rounds. Glad he answered the bell”

Jones — who recently went back-and-forth with Smith last month following the latter’s home invasion — then decided to mock him further.

“It seems like almost everyone who trash talk me during their fight week ends up losing. These boys thinking about being the champ instead of focusing on what it takes to get there.”

“Bones” went a step further and referenced that incident before deleting the tweet.

Jones did find time to poke fun at himself too, especially as Teixeira, 40, was able to finish a fighter that he couldn’t.

“Lol you just shut me up for the night ?

In the end, it’s all fun and games for Jones.

“Haha it’s just rough entertainment at the end of the day. We are all always talking crap to each other and teasing each other. Pretty sure most these guys have tough skin, I know my skins become like an armadillo since joining the Ufc.”

It remains to be seen if Smith will agree with Jones on that count.

Earlier tonight (Wed. May 13, 2020) UFC Jacksonville took place from the VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville, Florida.

The empty arena hosted a light heavyweight bout between Anthony Smith and Glover Teixeira in which Teixeira secured a TKO finish in the 5th round. In the co-main event of the evening, we saw Ovince Saint Preux make his heavyweight debut against Ben Rothwell. The move didn’t go quite as planned for OSP who lost a split decision after what was a slow performance. Outside of the main events, there were plenty of great fights and moments throughout the card that could have warranted bonuses.

Fight of the Night came early on the card as Brian Kelleher def. Hunter Azure in the second bout of the evening. In what was a stand-up war the two exchanged on the feet fairly evenly throughout the first round. Going into the second Kelleher’s aggressive style saw him find the knockout left hook towards the end of the round.

The First Performance of the Night bonus went to Drew Dober following his victory against prospect Alexander Hernandez. Dober asserted his dominance early pushing the pace and finding a home from his punches forcing Hernandez to shoot for a takedown. After returning to his feet Dober slowly worked away at Hernandez slowing him down with every punch that connected. The second round would see Dober’s combinations and aggression be too much for Hernandez finishing him via TKO 4:25 into the round.

The final Performance of the Night bonus went to Glover Teixeira for him main event win against Anthony Smith. What started as a dominant performance for Smith in the first two rounds quickly turned in round three. Round three saw Smith start to fatigue and Teixeira capitalized on this, he pushed the pace on the feet landed massive blows dropping Smith on multiple occasions. Once on the ground, Teixeira continued to control the bout with a mixture of ground and pound and submission attempts. This continued throughout the fourth round and into the fifth before being stopped by the ref 1:04 into the round.

Glover Teixeira

At the top of the bill, we have a fight with title implications in the light-heavyweight division. Former title challengers, Anthony Smith, and Glover Teixeira will go at it over a scheduled five rounds at the VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville, Florida. The winner will be one step closer to earning another shot at long-time champion Jon Jones.

Round 1: Anthony Smith opens up with a big right hand that lands flush on Glover Teixeira. The Brazilian is trying to close the gap but is not able to do so yet – he eats another big right hand! Teixeira is tough he takes that punch and then another one. Teixeira has a brief moment of success backing Smith up to the cage and ripping some body shots in. Smith separates and lets his right-hand fly again – he can’t miss it at the minute. Glover punches Smith below the belt and the referee steps in to call a break in the action. ‘Lionheart’ takes his time to recover but he’s ready to go again. Smith is straight back to work cracking that right hand over the top. Teixeira lands three successive low leg kicks but Smith lets go of a four-five punch combo which Teixeira does well to roll with. Teixeira continues to threaten with the takedown but has refused to commit to anything fully yet. The round fizzles out with neither man landing anything significant.

Round 2: Smith has that right hand corked at the start of round two but it’s not landing as easy as it did in the first round. Teixeira is hammering in those lower legs kicks which will add up the longer this fight goes on. Smith backs Teixeira against the cage, lands a nice uppercut and throw a spinning shot. ‘Lioneheart’ has taken some power off his right hadn but continues to land it. Teixeira is blinking and backing up backing up. Smith starts to put power on them again. He lands one and you can hear the crack! Glover’s eye immediately swells up and its almost shut. Teixeira backs Smith up against the cage as is letting his shots go. Smith looks hurt against the fence and is struggling to get out of the way. Teixeira smells it and starts to pour it on. Smith survives, they separate. Glover keeps the pressure on and continues to go after Teixeira right up until the horn sounds to end the round.

Round 3: Glover Teixeira lands a big body kick but its caught by Anthony Smith. Teixeira is down on the ground, Smith tries for a big hammer fist but misses and allows Glover back up to his feet. Teixeira hits Smith hard with an uppercut and immediately grabs for his eye, he looks ready to go. Teixeira follows up with more shots to drop Smith who looks finished. Teixeira is reigning down ground and pound but the referee continues to let the fight go. Teixeira decided to try to take the back instead before working his way into the mount. He’s against throwing big strikes. Smith explodes to reverse the position and he’s somehow almost back to his feet! Teixeira secures the position and takes the back. Teixeira is throwing big hammer fists from the back and the referee is continually warning Smith to fight back and get moving. The round ends. Smith has somehow made it out of round three. WOW!

Round 4: Teixeira opens up with a HUGE uppercut. He’s picking uo where he left off and is trying to finish Smith. ‘Lionheart’ proving his name right now he’s still staying in there and throwing shots. He’s landing a few of his own but Glover just seems to hurt Smith with every shot he throws. Smith is backed up taking shots and dives desperateness for a takedown. Glover stops it and takes the back, he’s throwing ground and pound for a while but ultimately lets Smith back to the feet. Both men are throwing bombs but Glover is hurting Smith who seems ready to go now. Teixeira amazingly shoots in for the take down and again goes back to hitting brutal ground strikes. As the round draws to a close Teixeira slows down and focuses on maintaining position rather than trying to finish.

Round 5: Smith doesn’t really look like he wants to fight anymore. He immediately backs up to the cage and braces for more punishment form Teixeira. Smith shoots for a takedown and Glover falls in to mount. He begins letting off shots and the referee mercifully steps in to end the bout.

OFFICIAL RESULT: Glover Teixeira def. Anthony Smith, TKO (Punches) 1:04, R5
