Going into the fifth round, Allen knew his back was against the wall. Picking up the pace, Allen marched forward in desperate need of a highlight-reel knockout. Unfortunately, Max Holloway was just too elusive. In the end, Holloway ran away with another incredible five-round victory inside the Octagon.

Slated to make his Octagon comeback this weekend in Missouri, former undisputed featherweight titleholder, Holloway will make his first walk since International Fight Week back in July of last year.

His sole victories in the last four years; a dominant decision victory of his own over common-foe, Calvin Kattar – before defeating current interim gold holder in a competitive back-and-forth at the UFC Apex facility. Retaining his stature at the top of the featherweight pile, Holloway puts his #2 rank on the line against Ipswich native, Allen – who has so far enjoyed an endless streak of triumphs over opposition since his UFC debut back in 2015.
As for Allen, boasting a 19-1 record which includes a TKO victory over the above-mentioned common-opponent, Kattar still is not enjoy to close as a betting favorite over Hawaiian veteran, Holloway – with the former closing as a betting underdog at +130 outright against the former undisputed champion.

Unifying the featherweight titles back in June 2017 following a TKO win over Anthony Pettis, Holloway defeated Aldo twice with strikes, before recording as doctor’s stoppage win over Ortega and outstriking Edgar over five rounds during his tenure as king of the featherweights.

UFC fans have watched Max Holloway grow up in the promotion and evolve into the elite level competitor that we now see today. The incredible success that he has achieved hasn’t been without some adjustments along the way and a former opponent of his found that out first hand.
At UFC 308 this Saturday, Holloway will challenge Ilia Topuria for the featherweight title in his return to 145-pounds. “Blessed” has faced his fair share of heavy hitters in the past but seeing how he deals with the boxing and power of the champion is a massive factor in this fight.
When top-10 ranked featherweight Arnold Allen faced Holloway over five rounds in April last year, the Brit was surprised by the way that the former champion fought him.
Rather than bringing his usual brand of forward pressure and high output, the BMF titleholder was happy to counter strike and showed a different side to his game. We saw the same thing in his last fight against Justin Gaethje at UFC 300 where aside from the final few seconds, Holloway didn’t need to put himself in harm’s way to be effective.
Allen highlighted this during his breakdown video for the main event on October 26. “Almighty” spoke about some of the changes that he has noticed from “Blessed” in recent times.
“Max Holloway kind of reinvigorated his style since fighting me. He made some adjustments. He started breaking distance, coming in and out, kicking more, being a little bit smarter like not taking so many shots. Not being in the pocket and just trying to out-will you. I do think one of things when I fought him that we or I didn’t respect enough is his fight IQ.”
Allen also spoke about how Holloway is still able to pressure his opponents without constantly being in their faces. This ability to control the distance without trading with “El Matador” could be a massive factor in his attempt to reclaim the featherweight gold.
“One of the things I really like that he’s done since making some adjustments is he disengages but he keeps the pressure on and there’s definitely an art to it. He’ll leave the danger but he’s still in the range for pressure, it’s hard to explain.”

While Arnold Allen is preparing for the biggest fight of his life against Max Holloway in April, he made the time to appear in an interview with Lowkick MMA’s Mike Owens and give his prediction on the Alexander Volkanovski vs. Yair Rodriguez fight.
Undefeated in the UFC, ‘Almighty’ has left a swath of carnage in his wake as he’s rapidly progressed up the UFC totem pole. Now scheduled to face divisional legend Max Holloway, Arnold Allen is on the cusp of earning his first title shot with a win over him.
Making the time to speak with Mike Owens, Allen discussed his upcoming fight and his reaction to the fight offer and even touched on such topics as the upcoming battle between Volkanovski and Rodriguez.
Arnold Allen breaks down the upcoming Alexander Volkanovski and Yair Rodriguez fight
When asked about Rodriguez’s chances of beating Volkanovski, Arnold Allen detailed them exquisitely. “I wouldn’t favor him (Yair Rodriguez)…” Allen began. “But, he’s like a grenade, ya know. If you wrestle him, he’s got something anywhere. If you hold on to him, he’s throwing elbows. He’s got good submissions. He’s very explosive with his hips. If you sit in his guard, he’s elbowing you, and he’s throwing triangles up. And if you stand in front of him, there’s always a chance of a knee or elbow at any point of the round…”
“I wouldn’t want to bet against him,” Arnold Allen continued. “But, it’s hard to bet against Volk. It’s a good fight. Knowing Volkanovski, he’ll probably outwork him… shut him down, and cancel him out. But you’re not gonna not get marked up against him (Yair Rodriguez).”
Later asked which fighter he believed he would match up better with, ‘Almighty’ chose Alexander Volkanovski. Saying the height difference and stylistic matchup is more preferable for him than if he were to face Rodriguez. Regardless, with a win over Max Holloway in April, Allen would undoubtedly be facing the winner of Volkanovski vs. Rodriguez next.

UFC featherweight contender Arnold Allen believes Max Holloway’s gamesmanship is one of the most difficult factors the Hawiann brings to his fights.
Arnold Allen and Max Holloway are set to face off in the main event of a UFC Fight Night event set to take place in Kansas City. This will be Allen’s highest-profile bout to date, with Holloway a consensus 145lb GOAT contender, alongside Jose Aldo Jr. and Alexander Volkanovski.
A win over Holloway will likely seal Allen’s status as the No.1 contender in the UFC’s featherweight division and set him up to face the winner of Alexander Volkanovski vs. Yair Rodriguez which will likely take place later this year.
In a recent exclusive interview with LowKickMMA, Allen was asked what he believes are the toughest parts of Holloway’s game. The surging Brit had the following response:
“He’s just tough as f***. He doesn’t get tired. He doesn’t slow down. He throws 100 punches a round, or something crazy… But no, I think the main thing with him, he seems like a really nice guy, but when he fights he’s an absolute a***hole. He’s pointing at you, he’s mocking you. You hit him with a shot, he’s absolutely mocking you. It’s that gamesmanship. That’s the thing that’s the biggest factor for him, not necessarily the skillsets he brings. Obviously, the tools he’s got are very good, but that’s not what you have to prepare for. It’s the rest of the stuff.”
Will Arnold Allen become the first person to finish Max Holloway?
There are few fighters on the planet that can say they have defeated Max Holloway in a Pro-MMA fight, although Alexander Volkanovski and Conor McGregor both hold that accomplishment on their resumes. However, no man has ever finished the Hawaiian, who has become known as one of the most durable fighters to compete in the UFC.
Arnold Allen is not perturbed by this fact, and is confident he has the ability to finish anyone in the division, including Holloway.
“Whoever it is, the goal is always to get him out of there. I haven’t got the highest finishing rate in the UFC and all that, but he’s been hit a lot. And I know the power I’ve got in my hands. Anyone I’ve trained with, anyone I’ve sparred with, knows that I’ve got power. I believe I’ve got the capability to do that and put anyone out in the division. But, you have to be prepared to go five rounds with someone like this. I’ve fought some very tough guys in the past and hit them with some good shots… Like Gilbert Melendez, he was quite hittable in our fight, but I realized I wasn’t hurting him to the head, so I just sort of peppered him to the body.”
