Light heavyweight boxer Badou Jack suffered one of the most horrific, bloodiest, gashes you will ever see in combat sports in his loss to Marcus Browne last night.

Jack, who lost to Browne in the co-main event of the Manny Pacquiao vs. Adrien Broner fight last night, got off to a slow start. It was an accidental clash of heads in the seventh round that split Jack wide open.

Covered in his own blood, incredibly Jack managed to go the distance, despite losing a ridiculous amount of blood. This is what referee Tony Weeks looked like after the fight. Yes, that’s Jack’s blood.

It’s actually quite disturbing when you think about it. The fact that a human being can lose that much blood and still participate in an athletic event is mind-blowing.

But not as shocking as this graphic video of Jack’s gash (via Twitter):

After getting his face put back together Jack released a statement on Instagram:

“I would like to thank all of the fans for your support! The cut was a nasty one, but I’m fine now, alhamdulillah. Congrats to @mbrowne718 who fought a great fight. Regardless of the cut he was the better man tonight. I am a warrior and will never quit, but didn’t realize the severity of the gash. I dedicated this fight to the refugee children across the world who fight a much tougher fight than I did tonight. I will continue to fight for them until the end, In shaa Allah. Alhamdulillah for everything.”

This is a big set back for Jack who losses a mandatory fight against WBC champion Oleksandr Gvozdyk. Browne will get the opportunity instead.

Video: Badou Jack Accidentally Slugs Referee During Adonis Stevenson Fight

How is this referee still standing?!

The WBC light heavyweight title fight between Badou Jack and Adonis Stevenson ended with a disappointing draw, but there was still plenty of action on Saturday night.

Midway through the 12th round, the  referee attempted to separate the two men from the clinch and ended up eating a massive right hand to the face by Badou on accident.

The referee miraculously remained standing and conscious:

Jack was quite remorseful and apologetic for the errant shot, and the referee powered on in spite of the fact that he just ate a huge punch.

The bout ultimately went to the judges scorecards, who scored it a majority draw, meaning Stevenson retains the WBC light heavyweight belt.

Believe it or not, this actually isn’t the first time Badou Jack has hit a referee mid-fight, clocking referee Arthur McKinney back in a January 2017 fight.

Is this just a heat-of-the-moment reaction on Jack’s part? Or is the boxer too reckless for his own good?

Cleverley made his comeback when he beat Juergen Braehmer to clinch the WBA title back in October 2016. Prior to this title fight, he had been beaten by Andrzej Fonfara in a highly competitive fight which became listed as one of the contenders for fight of the year in 2015. Cleverly has a pretty solid record so far at 30 – 3. Of these 30 wins, 16 of them have come through knockouts. Let us make it abundantly clear that Cleverly has not been fighting any tom, dick and harry. He has come up against high quality fighters and beaten the likes of Tony Bellew, Nadjib Mohammedi, Shawn Hawk, and Tommy Karpency. This will be the Welshman’s fourth time fighting in the United States.

Cleverly said in an interview that he has been wanting to challenge and take on Badou Jack ever since the latter made a move to the light heavyweight division. He also remarked that he was delighted that he is getting showcase his talent in an arena such as the one in Las Vegas on the same night as the highly anticipated fight between Floyd Mayweather vs. Conor McGregor. In his interview, Cleverley seemed almost over confident and stated that he had been training long and hard for this fight and that he had no doubts in his mind that he was going to send Badou packing.

Badou on the other hand is motivated by the fact that if he is to beat Cleverly come August 26th, he will be the new light heavyweight champion. Badou is 33 years of age and his current form has really been on point with him being unbeaten in his last six outings and is certainly not low on confidence himself.

His training has changed significantly since he moved down a weight class, he has been focusing on building muscle and polishing his boxings technique. Badou even stated in his own interview that he foresees no issues in the upcoming fight and that Cleverly is not going to be taking the belt, it is going to stay right here in Las Vegas.

While this is sure to be a fight that can go either way, we will go with Badou Jack for our pick, he is just technically more sound.
