With The War 4, has Poland discovered the purest form of hand-to-hand combat in existence? After hundreds of years of boxing, and decades of mixed martial arts, Poland is looking to push for the next form of human martial art perfection.

The War features tag team showdowns, multiple-man matches, and bare-knuckle action. At The War 4, featured a three-on-three battle. The strategy seems to be to pound out your opponent as quickly as possible so you can gang up going two-on-one with your teammate. Here is a clip:

Although, this feels like a step backward as viewers were expecting possibly a bigger number after The War 3 featured a five-on-five battle.

Previously, this same promotion pushed the envelope by combining even more factors. They once promoted a 3-vs-3 women’s bare-knuckle war.

Poland, The War, and More

Poland continues to strive to push the limit of what martial arts could possibly be. In High League, they introduced a little person championship:

Not to be outdone, FAME asked the question of who would win in MMA, a little person or a man?

Poland’s MMA-VIP had organized an inter-gender fight between a woman and a man.

But the Russian promotion may have out-done them all with an intergender 2 men vs 1 women fight featuring an elderly man.

The World Bare Knuckle Fighting Federation (WBKFF) signs two more former UFC fighters as bare-knuckle promotions continue to be the latest trend in combat sports.

The upstart promotion will host its first event later this year in October. The (WBKFF) made headlines last month when they officially announced a contest between Chris Leben and Phil Baroni. The promotion took to Instagram to announce the signing of two more UFC veterans- Josh Neer and Melvin Guillard. The (WBKFF) also inked former TUF 26 contestant Christina Marks.

Neer (36-16-1) hasn’t competed in MMA since getting knocked out by surging UFC light heavyweight Anthony Smith at Victory FC 47 back in 2016. “The Dentist” posted a record of six wins and nine defeats in his two runs with the UFC.

Guillard (32-21-2, 3 NC) has competed in nearly every relevant combat sports promotion during the last ten years. However, “The Young Assassin’s” best days may be behind him. Guillard has gone 0-8 with one NC in his last nine fights dating back to a 2014 defeat to Justin Gaethje.

Marks (8-10) lone appearance in the octagon was a loss at the hands of Montana De La Rosa during The Ultimate Fighter 26 Finale.

The (WBKFF) will debut this fall, and with an already promising stable of fighters, it should prove to be an exciting night of fights.

At the beginnings of the mixed martial arts movement, back in the early 1990’s when the sport was still often referred to as ‘No Holds Barred,’ the UFC arrived on the scene with a policy of fighting with bare knuckles.

The no-gloves stipulation (which boxer Art Jimmerson partially managed to circumnavigate at UFC 1) had been requested by one of the event’s founders, Rorian Gracie, who wanted to see fighting in its purest form.

By UFC 6 in 1995 gloves had become optional for fighters though, and by UFC 14 in 1997 they were mandatory.

Even when wearing gloves became the norm though, some fighters were still willing to test themselves in bareknuckle combat, whether it was for fight promotions in packed arenas, or just out on the street in front of a few dozen onlookers baying for blood.

Among them were some of the most famous fighters in the sport, battle hardened warriors who would move on from those barbaric beginnings to fight at the highest level in the UFC, and in some cases still do even to this day.

In this article we’ll tell the story of ten past and present UFC stars who were brave enough to go bare knuckle, providing rare video footage of them in action where possible – so let’s get right to it!
