Former UFC Heavyweight Champion and UFC Hall of Famer Bas Rutten recently revealed his Mount Rushmore of fighting. Rutten was on MMAJunkie Radio the former King of Pancrase where he was asked about his Mount Rushmore while also giving much praise towards UFC President Dana White.
“Royce Gracie, 100 percent – he needs to be the first guy,” Rutten said. “But the guy who made the UFC and made everything big is Dana White. Of course he can’t put himself in. You can say whatever you want to say, but because of him, we all watch it. Because of ‘The Ultimate Fighter,’ he came up with that idea and they did everything. People say they want more money. You can say whatever you want. But he’s the hardest working guy.”
Rutten went on to name the rest of his Rushmore with some interesting picks,
“Chuck Liddell, but MMA – is it MMA in general? Then you’ve got to go Fedor (Emelianenko), guys like that. How many more eyeballs did Conor McGregor put to MMA? Is he the greatest fighter with the submission losses? No, he’s not. He’s a very good fighter, but just because of what he did and how much attention he brought to MMA, does he deserve to be in it? Everyone is going to go, ‘You’re crazy.’ But really?”
Do you think Conor McGregor deserves to be on Mount Rushmore? What would yours look like?
In a bit of a surprise, Conor McGregor features on Bas Rutten’s mixed martial arts Mount Rushmore. UFC president Dana White was recently asked about his own Mount Rushmore and went with the likes of Royce Gracie, Amanda Nunes, Jon Jones and Chuck Liddell. And when the question was posed to former UFC heavyweight champion […]

And when the question was posed to former UFC heavyweight champion Rutten, the Dutchman had some interesting picks. He too, included Gracie along White himself. It then came down between Liddell and Fedor Emelianenko for Rutten’s third pick.
As for the fourth pick? Rutten seems to think McGregor warrants a place.
McGregor Impact Undeniable
While Rutten agrees that the Irishman lacks things such as title defenses, he feels the impact and eyeballs he has brought to the sport is something that cannot be denied.
“How many more eyeballs did Conor McGregor put to MMA? Is he the greatest fighter with the submission losses? No, he’s not,” Rutten told MMA Junkie (via MMA News).

It’s certainly a talking point, if impact is a criterion in the discussion.
McGregor, for one, believes he is already a contender to be the GOAT of MMA as he sparked that separate discussion last month. If he wants it to become a more unanimous opinion, he will have to eventually come out of his current retirement.
Do you agree with Rutten that McGregor deserves a place in the MMA Mount Rushmore?

Bas Rutten gave his thoughts on the upcoming matchup between Tony Ferguson and Justin Gaethje.
The pair will collide for the interim lightweight title at UFC 249 on May 9 with the winner going on to face Khabib Nurmagomedov in a title unification bout.
Ferguson is unsurprisingly the betting favorite and Rutten is leaning towards “El Cucuy” getting the victory. At the same time, the former UFC heavyweight champion feels the power of Gaethje could play a huge factor in the bout.
“This is gonna be very hard to predict the fight like that because Tony’s never been hit that hard,” Rutten told Submission Radio. “Because like you said, Gaethje can freakin’ swing, and if you get hit that hard and if you connect with that, that could be a big problem. But Ferguson is also a smart guy. We think, oh, he comes forward, but if he knows he’s gonna face the hardest punches he ever had, he might start moving in and out.
“I think Ferguson [will win] you would think, because he fought the better competition at the end, and he’s been such a long time in the UFC. But like you said, if Gaethje’s gonna connect, I mean, he hits so hard. What if Gaethje takes him down and he doesn’t work the guard, he squats in there and he just starts landing punches on the ground. I mean, he’s got so much power in his hands, he might stop him with strikes on the ground. But Ferguson is the guy, he’s never been knocked out. The guy’s just insane, he just keeps on coming. I love it. That’s hard.”
It’s certainly a risky fight for Ferguson to take.
Gaethje has become a different fighter ever since his last defeat with three straight first-round knockouts. However, the former interim lightweight champion should still remain confident as ever as he looks to extend his UFC winning streak to 13.
UFC 249 takes place May 9 at the VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville, Florida. The co-main event will see a bantamweight title fight between Henry Cejudo and Dominick Cruz.

Johny Hendricks is not a fan of former UFC heavyweight champion Bas Rutten at the moment.
Rutten served as the president for the World Bare Knuckle Fighting Federation (WBKFF). The promotion held its first-ever event from Casper, Wyoming on November 9, 2018. However, many fighters were not paid for their performances on the card. One of those fighters being former 170-pound champion Johny Hendricks.
Rutten has responded with a lengthy post on his official Facebook page. Here’s what he had to say:
“So I had a “nice” surprise this morning, an article in where Jonhy Hendricks tells people that “Bas Rutten HAD to know about the WBKFF not be able to pay their fighters”. Wow, when some ignorant people believe this, I don’t really care, but once a fighter believes that? Come on now Johny, not cool, you know I am there for you and the fighters.
“I told you personally, AND EVERY OTHER FIGHTER IN WYOMING BEFORE THE SHOW (ask them all), that I saw the bank statements from Tom the owner and had “proof of funds” before the show. Proof that he had enough money in the bank to pay the fighters because this was to me the most important thing of all.
“I was going to post a piece again today but than I thought, nah, lets drive to Vegas tomorrow and be on MMA Junkie, this way they can ask all the hard questions and I will bring my computer so I can show George and Goes my emails with that bank statement (proof of funds), plus I also have the proof of his bank account being frozen and his admission papers from the hospital. I bring those because Chris Leben, Johny and some others have said: “This was a scam from the beginning, his bank account never got frozen and he was never in the hospital”.
“Tomorrow you will see that what they claimed was all 100% Incorrect and I have the proof that the bank DID get frozen and that Tom WAS in the hospital. Will tell also some other things that many don’t know yet, so please, don’t start commenting right now, don’t be like the majority of people nowadays and make assumptions before you know both sides of the story, before you know the TRUTH.
“Like this one: I was hired as a commentator in the beginning and was never the president of the company, wait, what? Yeah, the outside world thought I was, but I never signed a contract. I will explain how that all went down as well. And there is much more. So please tune in tomorrow for MMA Junkie at 5PM pacific. Godspeed to all of you!”
