Bellator 214 this past Saturday night at The Forum in Inglewood, California, may have featured the last 35 seconds in the famed career of “The Last Emperor.” That’s all the time Ryan Bader needed to brutally knock out Fedor Emelianenko, capturing the Bellator World Heavyweight Grand Prix and Bellator Heavyweight Championships. Fedor Emelianenko has issued a statement following his knockout loss at the hands of Ryan Bader. Emelianenko went one-on-one with Bader in the finals of the Bellator Heavyweight World Grand Prix this past Saturday night (Jan. 26). Things didn’t go Emelianenko’s way as he was flattened in just 35 seconds. Bader is the first fighter […]

Featherweight phenom Aaron Pico is no stranger to adversity. But can the 22-year-old bounce back from yet another setback so early in his career?
Pico looked good early on in his fight with Henry Corrales last night at The Forum in Inglewood, Ca. That is, until the young man got caught with a huge hook right in the chin.
Say what you will about Pico – he should’ve used his wrestling, he should’ve slowed things down. All that may be true. But Pico is a stand-up guy. So much so that he was the only fighter to have lost at Bellator 214 yet still show up to the post-fight press conference.
Pico answered a number of questions last night at the press conference but now that he has had a full 24 hours to let it set in, it looks as though Pico understands exactly where things went wrong. (Courtesy of Twitter):

Ryan Bader says that he actually saw into the future when it comes to his latest fight inside of the Bellator cage. The Bellator light heavyweight champion made history when he took on MMA legend Fedor Emelianenko.
This fight served as the headliner of Bellator 214 on January 26, 2019, at The Forum in Inglewood, California, on Paramount Network and DAZN. In round 1, the light heavyweight champion dropped him with a left hook and Fedor was out on his feet. Bader followed up with a right hand for extra measure to win the heavyweight tournament final.
Following the fight while speaking with the media, Bader made it known that he saw this moment while preparing for the fight. Thus, when he actually pulled it off, he’s not surprised.
“You know what? I saw that moment,” Bader said at Bellator 214’s post-fight press conference (H/T to MMAFighting). “And you can ask my team, we practiced that moment a lot. I saw that punch was going to do it. You can’t see his right hand because he throws from his hip. He’s very hard to see, he throws hard. But in doing so, you leave yourself exposed. And we felt that he was going to respect my wrestling a lot, and I could put one up top. If you look through any of the footage on the Countdown shows and all of that kind of stuff, we were practicing that punch the whole time.
“Throwing a jab, getting our distance, and then fainting and throwing that left hook, and we knew he’d be there. That’s a hard punch right there. He went down, and I saw that over and over again already, so it just kinda played out how we saw it.”

Bader, who already held the promotion’s light heavyweight title, did what most people expected him to do Saturday night at The Forum in Inglewood, Calif. The surprising part is it only took Bader 32 seconds to knock out Emelianenko.

This is the best case scenario for the Viacom owned promotion. They to now have a certified “champ-champ” to rival the UFC.
That being said its unknown at this time if Bader will defend both titles going forward. When pressed about that very thing during his post-fight interview with John McCarthy, Bader said he would have to get with his team and see what Bellator President Scott Coker wanted to do.
Regardless Bellator MMA has their first “double champ” and his name is Ryan “Darth” Bader. Whether on not he defends both belts is another question entirely.

The MMA Lab’s Henry Corrales absolutely flatlined Aaron Pico in the co-main event of Bellator 214 tonight, most likely earning a title shot in the process.
Both Corrales and Pico threw caution into the wind but it was Whittier, California’s own “OK” Corrales that was left standing in the end.

This is yet another setback for Pico who seemingly had it all figured out after dropping his debut. As for Corrales, during his post-fight interview with John McCarthy, he called for a title fight.
Time will tell if Corrales gets his wish, however, he has won five straight fights since joining Benson Henderson and The MMA Lab.
