Ben Askren mocks Colby Covington for a certain reason and it involves UFC President Dana White. There is no love lost between the two UFC stars as they have history. The war of words between these two fighters is nothing new. It does seem with them now fighting in the same division under the UFC banner that it’s just a matter of time before they fight.

In the past, Askren has questioned not only the IQ but also the credibility of Covington. During the latest shot taken by Askren, he mocked Covington for trusting White when it comes to what he says. And Askren has a point as White is a promoter at heart and will do/say what he has to in order to push his narrative.

It’s no secret that Covington was supposed to get the next crack at UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley. However, that was changed as now plans are for Woodley to fight Kamaru Usman at the UFC 235 pay-per-view event.

Once Covington recently ripped White when he said that White went back on his word and that he “ain’t got the balls” to fire him. Askren took to Twitter to further mock him by writing:

“[Colby Covington] I realized you were dumb but please, please don’t tell me you were dumb enough to really trust Dana.”

Ben Askren opens up on his relationship with the UFC President Dana White now that he’s under contract with the Las Vegas-based promotion. Before signing, Askren wasn’t allowed in the promotion despite his talent due to some issues with White.

Some people thought that Askren would never fight in the UFC but that changed. Once the UFC made a trade with ONE to send former UFC flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson to them, ONE would send Askren to the UFC.

Askren had his first fight booked under the UFC banner but now it’s been rescheduled to a later date. He’s slated to meet former UFC welterweight champion Robbie Lawler. It was originally supposed to go down at UFC 233 but this event got nixed.

Askren’s Mindset

While doing an interview, Askren brought up his relationship with the UFC President has changed now that he’s under contract.

“I think when when one person and another person have a disagreement. The thing you need to do, if you want to have respect for each other, is sit down and have that conversation,” Askren said to MMAJunkie.com. “We haven’t been able to do that so far. He’s said nice things (in) the media. That’s also because I volunteered to do the dirty work. I volunteered to switch and be the main event against Robbie (at UFC 233), Robbie said no. I volunteered to fight ‘Marty from Nebraska’ (Kamaru Usman), ‘Marty’ said no. I volunteered to fight dumb Colby (Covington). So he sees the value in what I’m doing, so now he’s being nice.”

In the past, they have traded words on social media and White has even stated that he always thought Askren wanted big paydays facing lesser competition. Now, the former Bellator and ONE champion is just looking forward to fight people in the Octagon.

“It’s whatever, though. What has happened in the past doesn’t just go away. Because of his position, he thinks that’s how it goes. Listen, I’m here to fight people in the cage. Not be anyone’s best friend. If we develop a friendship, that’s fine. I’m here to fight people in the cage.”

Ben Askren questions not only the IQ but credibility of former UFC interim welterweight champion Colby Covington. The war of words between these two fighters is nothing new. It does seem with them now fighting in the same division under the UFC banner that it’s just a matter of time before they fight.

Covington is currently waiting to get a fight booked against UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley. In the meantime, he has been asked about a potential fight against Askren.

In a recent interview, Covington downplayed a potential fight against Askren at the UFC 233 PPV event before it got nixed. This is where he questioned if the bout would even be legal. They fight in the same weight class. With that logic, Askren has fired back at these comments made by Covington.

“Yo, I know I just made a picture post about this. But I was laughing,” Ben Askren said in a video on Instagram (H/T to BJPenn). “I was laughing to myself and I had to share this with you.Colby [Covington] is so dumb. Go back and see my previous post. See that he said that no commission would sanction me fighting him. I was thinking about how stupid he has to be to believe that there’s actually someone else that stupid to believe his lie.”

Askren Fires back

Despite the bad blood, Askren already has his next fight booked. He’ll take on former UFC welterweight champ Robbie Lawler at UFC 235. Askren would continue to insult the title contender and tak shots at his IQ as a human being.

“I mean, can you imagine?” Askren continued. “If you take Colby’s IQ and cut it in half, we’re in the single digits. That is how stupid he must think some fans are. Because I can’t think of anyone I’ve ever met in my entire lifetime that has such a low IQ that they would actually believe what he is saying.

Colby, you’re losing your gimmick. Please tell us something that’s slightly believable. Maybe go back to school so your IQ goes up at least a couple points.”
