The next UFC Fight Island 5 bout is at heavyweight. Long-time contender Ben Rothwell is hoping to stretch his current win streak to three. Marcin Tybura is looking to do the same. Someones’ good form has got to end. Let’s find out who it’ll be.

Round 1: Ben Rothwell pushes forward early. He let’s a flurry of punches fly. Marcin Tybura eats them all and gets back to the center of the Octagon. They momentarily break before Rothwell goes back to work. Lot’s of volume coming from Rothwell. He seems to want to get this one early. Tybura isn’t moving. He’s eating everything coming at him and firing back well. Rothwell is starting to slow down, perhaps understanding this is a tougher fight than anticipated. Tybura lands a nice one-two. Rothwell is targeting the body. This is a really fast paced first round between two in form heavyweights. Tybura is popping the jab to maintain range. Rothwell continues to press forward bobbing and weaving as he throws punches followed by a high kick. They clinch up and work the dirty boxing on the inside before breaking. Tybura rips in a big body kick. Rothwell takes a step back for a couple seconds before continuing his forward press. Lot’s of volume and a failed high kick attempt from ‘Big Ben’ before round one ends.

Round 2: A much slower start to round two. Tybura is actually the one pressing forward landing lots of straight shots. After about one minute aggressive Rothwell returns. He’s walking in square just trying to take his opponents head off. They end up against the fence, exchanging techniques and swapping positions. Back to the middle. Tybura is looking good in round two. He’s still eating some shots but is able to get off more of his own and he’s winning the clinch exchanges. Tybura lands and Rothwell seems to wobble for a moment. Maybe not, because now he’s steaming forward with a flurry of punches. He’s showing lots of heart and aggression but is being picked off in this round. Tybura is the much fresher fighter and is getting better as the fight progresses with avoiding his opponent’s attacks. Round two ends with Rothwell pressing forward. He lands a shot just after the horn sounds to end the second stanza.

Round 3: Tybura pops the jab at the start of the final round. He follows up with a straight down the pipe. Rothwell jumps in lands. He is getting picked apart by the Polish fighter though who is able to land several more than his opponent in each exchange. Tybura is really looking like a slick boxer in here. He’s pinging Rothwell with shots, dipping out the way of shots – now he shoots in for a takedown. Tybura takes the fight to the mat. He’s in the guard throwing short shots staying busy. Tybura postures up to avoid a triangle attempt before jumping back into the guard and hammering away with ground strikes. As the clock ticks down Tybura is putting more power in his punches. Rothwell doesn’t seem able to get up he’s stuck in a tough spot. In the final 30 seconds, Tybura is pouring it on lots of punches, elbows up until the final bell.

OFFICIAL RESULT: Marcin Tybura def. Ben Rothwell via unanimous decision

UFC heavyweight Ben Rothwell (38-12) has said that he was “ripped to shreds” for throwing support behind the Black Lives Matter movement recently.

Rothwell, a native of Kenosha, Wisconsin, where Jacob Blake was shot by police officers in August, had previously shared the following comments on his personal Instagram page.

“For my ‘all lives matter’ friends: When the Boston marathon was bombed, and everybody’s profile picture changed to ‘Boston Strong’ nobody said ‘all cities are strong’. When the Las Vegas shooting happened, people changed their profiles to ‘Stand with Vegas,’ nobody said ‘Stand with Everywhere’ Have you ever seen someone counter a breast cancer post with ‘wait, what about colon cancer?’ But for some reason if someone say ‘black lives matter’ it turns into an all inclusive ‘all lives matter’. This is not an either/or proclamation. When there is a crisis we have always rallied around that particular group/city/cause. It does not diminish any other group/city/cause, it just brings awareness and support to where it is needed. Nobody is saying all lives don’t matter, but right now our black friends, families, colleagues, neighbors, and strangers need our support.”

Rothwell continued, adding:

“I do not support organizations, violence, or destruction,” Rothwell wrote. “I support the movement for change. I’m just trying to support my friends and have a better understanding of what people are going through and why they feel what they do. I’m looking for unity and instead I see nothing but division. I had many great conversations that brought me here, all I ask is everyone bashing me should go and speak with others to understand what they are going through and why they feel what they are. Listen, be compassionate and see if you feel differently after.”

Ben Rothwell is currently in Abu Dhabi prepping for his fight against Marcin Tybura this weekend. When speaking to reporters ‘Big Ben’ was asked about Kenosha.

“I had the fight booked when the nonsense went down in Kenosha, so it’s been on my mind. It’s on my mind now,” said Rothwell (via BloodyElbow). “It’s been asked a couple of times before I got here. And don’t expect any great interview today because [it’s a] bad time.”

“My city got terrorized and the city got shattered,” continued Ben Rothwell. “I put myself right in the middle. I love people on both sides. And I got ripped to shreds by some, but I held my ground because I believe in my community.”

“People don’t understand this bubble that I created for myself ten years ago in my gym and it’s the closest thing I’ve got to world peace. I’ve got so many cultures, so many colours, come to my gym, we don’t care what their jobs are. They come to my gym, we work together, we do mixed martial arts together, it’s a beautiful thing. And I guess that’s what it’s taught me about life and if I can do it in that gym why can’t we all do it?”

In tonight’s co-main event long-time UFC heavyweight Ben Rothwell will be hoping to make it two straight wins after picking up the victory over Stefan Struve late last year. He’ll face Ovince St Preux, who is making his heavyweight debut tonight. The former light-heavyweight contender comes into the fight 35lbs heavier than his last bout. Will he emerge victorious? Let’s find out!

Round 1: Both fighters come out quite tentatively. Ovince St. Preux is flicking out up kicks to try and keep Ben Rothwell at distance. Rothwell is backing up his opponent and is beginning to let his hands go. A couple of big rights have landed already during a few different skirmishes. St. Preux is showing Rothwell a lot of respect right now staying light on his feet and getting out of the way at all costs. OSP throws a high kicked and Rothwell catches it. The former light-heavyweight contender is down on the mat and Rothwell is trying to sink in a choke. Eventually he lets up and just starts letting shots go while leaning over OSP. St. Preux gets back to his feet towards the end of round one. Both men posture for a few seconds before the round finishes.

Round 2: OSP begins round two a little more aggressively. He’s throwing big kicks and punches with power. Rothwell lands a big right hand and a picture-perfect uppercut too. He’s hot OSP trapped up on the fence but is struggling to get anything off and the French fighter eventually escapes. St.Preux is back on his bike but it’s not long before he’s trapped against the fence against eating punches – Rothwell even lands a nice knee. Again they separate but not for long. OSP lands a nice shot but it doesn’t bother Rothwell who takes the fight back to the fence and mauls his opponent. When they separate St. Preux is covered in blood and looking visibly tired. Rothwell jumps in to try and land but eats a counter which drops him. OSP is on top as the round ends.

Round 3: OSP opens up with a big hook but he quickly finds himself back on the fence. Rothwell has the clinch and is trying to throw knees. St Preux punches his way out of it but again it’s not for long. Rothwell has hi up against the fence again and is throwing big shots which are landing clean – these are the best moments of the fight for ‘Big Ben’. He realizes the finish isn’t coming and both fighters seem happy to take a rest against the fence right now. OSP makes some pace and lands a big hook followed by a head kick. Rothwell still isn’t fazed. He presses his opponent back to the cage again. He’s hitting uppercuts, knees, and trying to stay heavy on the fence. The last 20 seconds sees the fighters back in the middle of the cage. They are swinging wild but OSP is getting the better of it. The bell sounds to end the fight but OSP lands one final punch which drops Rothwell. He gets straight back to his feet to await the judge’s verdict.
