Several new fights have been announced for the UFC’s return to San Antonio including Andrei Arlovski vs. Ben Rothwell.

Andrei Arlovski vs. Ben Rothwell 2 Set

Alongside this rematch, James Vick (13-3) meets Dan Hooker (17-4) in a lightweight bout and Ray Borg (11-4) steps into the Octagon to take on promotion newcomer Gabriel Silva (7-0) in a bantamweight bout. San Antonio Express-News reported the news on Monday.

The first fight between these two heavyweight sluggers came back in the co-main event of the first Affliction show in July 2008. In this bout, Arlovski knocked out Rothwell in the third round. Now, over a decade later, these two will go at it again.

Arlovski vs. Rothwell

Rothwell fought Blagoy Ivanov at UFC Wichita by losing by unanimous decision in his return fight after being away due to a two-year USADA suspension. The former UFC heavyweight champion is currently on a four-fight losing streak.

Vick has lost two straight fights coming into this bout after winning nine of his first 10 UFC bouts. On the flip side, Hooker suffered a third-round KO loss to Edson Barboza in December, which snapped a streak of four consecutive victories.

The event takes place on July 20, 2019, at the AT&T Center in San Antonio, Texas and will air on ESPN. A headliner for the show has yet to be announced. Here is the updated card:

According to a report from MMAFighting.com, UFC heavyweight Ben Rothwell has accepted a two-year suspension from the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) after failing multiple out-of-competition drug tests last year.

According to the report, Rothwell tested positive for ““an anabolic androgenic steroid of exogenous origin”.

Rothwell had claimed that the positive test stemmed from a prescribed dose of testosterone from his doctor, but USADA deemed that it did not make him eligible for a Therapeutic Use Exemption.

The 36-year-old has previously failed a drug test, although that didn’t come during a time when USADA was regulating the UFC’s drug testing.

Recently, Rothwell has won four of his last five fights, scoring stoppages over Brandon Vera, Alistair Overeem, Matt Mitrione and Josh Barnett. His last fight resulted in a decision loss to Junior Dos Santos in April 2016.

Rothwell will now be eligible to compete again in February 2019.

The UFC’s traditional blockbuster July pay-per-view (PPV), which will come in the form of July 8’s UFC 213 from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas this year, may have just signed on a pivotal heavyweight bout.

Just moments ago, MMA Fighting confirmed a report that former UFC heavyweight champion Fabricio Werdum will meet former Strikeforce heavyweight champion Alistair Overeem at the midsummer spectacular.

The heavyweight legends have met twice before, with Werdum submitting Overeem in Pride FC back in 2006 before “The Demolition Man” got his revenge five years later in Strikeforce in a lackluster decision win where Werdum mainly flopped to the ground in a vain effort to get the hulking Dutch kickboxer to engage him on the ground.

No. 1-ranked Werdum has had a run of strange circumstances as of late, seeing fights with Cain Velasquez at UFC 207 and Ben Rothwell at UFC 211 in May fall apart due to his opponents being deemed unfit to fight and failing a USADA drug test, respectively. Former middleweight champion Luke Rockhold called him out for an oddly-matched bout, but Werdum refused after calling the AKA product ‘chicken’ before discussing a trilogy bout with Overeem, which is ultimately close to coming to fruition. ‘Vai Cavalo’ was most recently seen dismantling old foe Travis Browne.

Overeem has enjoyed a late-career resurgence of sorts, winning five out of his last six bouts while falling just short in a title bid against champion Stipe Miocic at last September’s UFC 203. “The Reem” got back on track in impressive fashion with a vicious knee stoppage of fan favorite Mark Hunt at March 4’s UFC 209.

In a heavyweight division lacking true title contenders outside of the rising Francis Ngannou, this fight should potentially be for the next title shot against the winner of the Miocic vs. Junior dos Santos rematch in the main event of UFC 211.

The fight has not yet been officially confirmed by the UFC.
