Bethe Correia has called time on her mixed martial arts career.

The former women’s bantamweight title challenger revealed she would be competing for the last time when she faced Karol Rosa on the prelims of UFC Vegas 38 last night.

Correia was emotional heading into the Octagon and although it was her last bow, she was unable to go out with a victory as she suffered a unanimous decision defeat (30-27, 30-27, 30-26).

“(It’s a) Very emotional moment for me,” Correia said in her post-fight interview (via MMA Junkie). “It’s been very emotional for me, a lot of deja vu moments for me. I can only thank the UFC for all the opportunities they gave me.”

Correia leaves the sport with a 11-6-1 record and holds notable wins over Shayna Baszler, Jessica Eye and Sijara Eubanks.

The Brazilian most notably came to notoriety in the buildup to her women’s bantamweight title fight with then champion Ronda Rousey back in 2015.

With plenty of animosity between the pair, it was Rousey who came out on top with a first-round knockout victory. Correia — who was undefeated prior to the setback — would win just two of her next eight outings since.

How will you remember Correia best?

Former UFC bantamweight title challenger Bethe Correia has put her retirement fight on hold after undergoing an emergency appendectomy.

Correia was due to face off against Yanan Wu on January 16. A fight that was set to be the final one of her MMA career. The 37-year-old took to social media on Wednesday to share the news that she is out of the fight and will look to reschedule her retirement bout for later in 2021.

“God always knows what is best for us … I was training so hard for this fight however in the middle of the night I started to feel an unbearable pain .I was admitted to the hospital and I was diagnosed with appendicitis . The doctors advised me and my family that it was a severe case and that I would require an emergency surgery . I want to thank the UFC and Dana White for all the support over the years . My last dance and my retirement fight will have to be postponed for a little while , I cannot wait to put on amazing performance for you guys”

Correia joined the UFC in 2013 as an undefeated women’s bantamweight and enjoyed three wins in a row over the likes of Julia Kedzie, Jessamyn Duke, and Shayna Bazler. That winning run earned her a shot at Ronda Rousey‘s 135-pound title only to result in her suffering her first professional loss following a first-round knockout. The Brazilian would go on to win just twice in her next seven outings with her most recent performance being a unanimous decision defeat to Sweden’s Pannie Kianzad.

Long-time bantamweight contender Bethe Correia remains a UFC fighter despite reports to the contrary. Correia was apparently released by the promotion back in August after picking up just one win in her last five fights.

According to AG Fight, the Brazilian has been granted one more fight with the UFC. Correia is set to face Yanan Wu on December 5, on a UFC Fight Night card set to be headlined by a middleweight bout between top contenders Darren Till and Jack Hermansson.

Correia took to social media to confirm she will be fighting in December for the final time, she wrote.

“Only a fighter knows the time to stop and follow other paths… Only a fighter and their allies know to tell apart the lies from the truth from what the media puts out. Yes! This will be my last fight and it could not be at any event other than the one and only @UFC Countless lies have been told out there, but I remained centered! I know who I am and I know my story. I have a strong and daring personality that has been the essence of my career and has added many rilvaries that strengthened Women’s MMA. What I leave behind me is my legacy of a fighter who has a bold posture, presentation and unique celebration style in the fighting world. A personality that makes many curious to know more about me. It’s not by chance that #betheeffect is out there. Love me or hate me, in the end everybody wanted to stop to watch me fight. I reached Pay Per View record numbers that back then had not been reached for many years. I have fought the very best and I always made the news. I am certain that I have left my mark and now it’s time to let a new generation arise. And I know that I have taught both good and bad lessons. My very last fight will be at the best in the whole world… Where I dreamed and seeked to fight. This December I will be in the UFC octagon. I will cherish every moment of it and I know I’ll miss it! I’m incredibly thankful to the UFC for the recognition of my career and history, they have never denied me a request.”
