It appears as though Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker is still holding out hope that he can put together the battle of former pro wrestling stars – Dave Bautista vs. Bobby Lashley – inside the Strikeforce cage.

On Monday’s episode of The MMA Hour, Coker said that the organization is still in contact with Bautista, and if both sides do ever agree on a deal, you can expect one of Bautista’s first fights to be against Lashley.

“I know there’s ongoing dialogue between [Strikeforce matchmaker] Rich [Chou] and Bautista, and they are trying to come to an agreement of the minds, but right now Bautista has a couple of movie offers and it’s just tying up his time. Let’s see where it goes from there,” Coker said.

“I think that fight should happen. If we sign Bautista, why not make that fight?”

Chad Griggs Says Bobby Lashley’s Excuses Are ‘Bad Sportsmanship’

Ever since Chad Griggs defeated former pro wrestler Bobby Lashley at Strikeforce: Houston, things in his life have been, as he puts it, “pretty crazy, but good crazy.” The calls have come in a steady stream. His website traffic has jumped tremendously. Suddenly people in the MMA world know his name. That’ll happen when you beat an 8-1 favorite on national TV.

But recently Lashley appeared on “The MMA Hour” and offered a handful of reasons why he wasn’t at his best on that particular night, even claiming at one point that had he been completely healthy, he would have notched “a pretty quick win” over Griggs in Houston.

Not surprisingly, this is the kind of thing that rubs Griggs the wrong way.

Lashley Blames ‘Certain Events’ for Loss to Chad Griggs

So, it was either the lingering effects of mononucleosis, that pesky bout of dehydration (possibly owing to the mononucleosis) or pressure from the haters that caused Bobby Lashley to shit the bed against Chad Griggs at Strikeforce: Houston last month. So said Lashley during an appearance on Ariel Helwani’s "The MMA Hour" yesterday. We’d be able to pin it down further for you, but reports make it seem like the WWE-wrestler-turned-MMA-heavyweight was still being kind of vague about the whole thing.

Bobby Lashley Says Griggs Fight Would Have Been ‘Quick Win’ If Not for Health

Former pro wrestling superstar Bobby Lashley may have had a career setback in his loss to Chad Griggs in Strikeforce last month, but his MMA career is nowhere near done, he said.

“I’m fighting again [in 2010] for sure…in November at the latest,” Lashley told Ariel Helwani on Monday’s episode of “The MMA Hour.”

As for who he’d like to face in his return to action, Lashley indicated that he wants a rematch with Griggs, who beat him via referee stoppage at the end of the second round in Houston, Texas on August 21. Lashley said he’s already asked Strikeforce for the fight, and explained that due to several health issues going into the fight he wasn’t able to perform at his best.

“I already asked for a rematch, because when you have certain events like I did that sort of hindered me from being able to open up and fight, I’ve got to go back,” Lashley said. “I’d hate for them to use that fight to boost somebody’s career, saying, ‘Okay, he beat Bobby,’ because that wasn’t really the case. If I didn’t have these problems, and I’d been able to go out there and fight, I think it would have been a pretty quick win for me. But I just didn’t have anything in me.”
