After taking down one boxer in Paulie Malignaggi, Artem Lobov wants to take down another in former boxing champion Amir Khan.

Lobov most recently outpointed Malignaggi at Bare Knuckle FC 5 last month in an event that drew many eyes from the combat sport world. The former UFC featherweight is now targeting bigger names. His coach John Kavanagh suggested a mixed martial arts (MMA) fight with former boxing champion Amir Khan to take place at Brave CF.

Lobov would respond soon after, urging the Asian promotion to make the fight happen if they wanted an event that would send waves across the combat world:

“My last fight was called the event of the summer by FORBES, if you want BRAVE to make real waves in combat world I am your man!! Khan, Broner, Manny, whoever…..when I fight the world is watching!!!”

Despite the attention Malignaggi vs. Lobov received, it did not translate well into pay-per-view (PPV) buys, however. It was reported earlier this month that it only did in the range of 18,000 buys on traditional television PPV.

However, one can imagine given Khan’s popularity worldwide, there would be more eyes on this fight, especially as it would be in MMA. Khan, who is a fan of the sport, is expected to attend the invite-only Brave 24 event in London next week. Kavanagh will also be there as he corners Cian Cowley.

Do you think this fight could happen?

The incident occurred as Whitaker was walking at an intersection in Virginia Beach. Police officers were called to the scene, however, he succumbed to his injuries. Whitaker, who was scheduled for a meet-and-greet at the MGM Grand for this weekend’s Manny Pacquiao vs. Keith Thurman fight, was just 55 years old.

“On Sunday, July 14, 2019, at 10:04 p.m., Emergency Communications received a call for vehicle/pedestrian accident in the intersection of Northampton Boulevard and Baker Road,” Virginia Beach Police Department spokesman L.M. Bauder said in a statement. “When officers arrived on scene they located an adult male victim who had been hit by a vehicle. The victim succumbed to his injuries on the scene. The driver of the vehicle remained on scene with police.”

Regarded as one of the best defensive boxers of all time, Whitaker was a former four-division champion. “Sweet Pea” notably held titles at lightweight, light welterweight, welterweight, and light middleweight, and also won gold at the 1984 Olympic Games.

The tributes came pouring in soon after as the likes of Mike Tyson, Floyd Mayweather, Eddie Hearn and more all reacted to the sad news:

Everyone wants a crack at Amanda Nunes. The current UFC double champion comes off a successful first-round knockout title defense over Holly Holm at UFC 239.

“The Lioness” has looked unstoppable as of late, finishing nearly everyone who steps into the Octagon with her. The power in Nunes’ hands is unlike anything women’s mixed martial arts (MMA) has ever seen. The only woman who could rival her power, Cris Cyborg, Nunes finished in under a minute.

However, WBO, WBA, WBC, and IBF middleweight boxing champion Claressa Shields believes she can put Nunes away. Speaking to TMZ Sports, Shields said she believes she’d put the Brazilian to sleep:

“The greatest in MMA, but not the greatest fighter [Nunes is],” Shields said. “I’m the greatest of all time. I’ve always been. Amanda Nunes – she ain’t been to the Olympics two times. I’ve been on top of the world twice. I’m not putting myself against Amanda, because I like her, we’re both women athletes. I actually praise her like I did Cris [Cyborg]. She’s the GOAT in MMA, and I’m in boxing. And if we were to fight I’d win.”

Shields was then asked if she’d beat Nunes in MMA, to which she hilariously responded, “Hell nah, I can’t wrestle. But in boxing, yeah, Amanda Nunes would go to sleep.”

Nunes has virtually cleaned out the bantamweight division, and with featherweight so slim with contenders, perhaps a superfight between Nunes and Shields could come into play. No cross-sport fight has ever happened between MMA and boxing since Floyd Mayweather vs. Conor McGregor. Perhaps Nunes could be the first to change that.

What do you think about a potential clash between Shields and Nunes? Would Shields truly put Nunes to sleep?
