Regardless of his boxing record through two fights, former UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou has no doubts about his ability to compete with the very best inside the ring.

Ngannou has gone 0-2 in pro boxing since departing the UFC as champ in early 2023, but that certainly doesn’t show the whole story of his short career in the squared circle to date.

After signing an exclusive MMA deal with the Professional Fighters League (PFL) last May that includes the freedom to box, “The Predator” completed his long-desired foray to the ring five months later to square off against then-WBC heavyweight champ Tyson Fury.

The Cameroonian went above and beyond expectation, first by knocking “The Gypsy King” down early on and going on to reach the distance in a competitive 10-round affair. Many even believe Ngannou deserved the nod.

While he was able to prove his detractors wrong first time around, Ngannou’s sophomore boxing outing didn’t go to plan. The ex-UFC star was emphatically beaten by Anthony Joshua this past March, suffering a brutal knockout early into round two.

That result brought Ngannou’s doubters back out of the woodwork, with some suggesting he never had a chance against the former two-time unified heavyweight titleholder while branding his performance against Fury as the product of his opponent underestimating him.

According to Ngannou, however, there’s not an opponent in the world whom he’d have “zero chance” against…

Ngannou Defends Decision To Box Joshua

During an appearance on the Joe Rogan Experience, Ngannou reflected on his first two bouts as a pro boxer, which ended in vastly different fashions.

“The Predator” acknowledged the doubt many had leading into his debut opposite Fury, as well as the feelings those same individuals have shared since his brutal setback to Joshua five months later.

“It was like, ‘Okay, we want it to happen? Then make it happen,’” Ngannou said of his clash with Fury. “I think a lot of people do mistake something. … If anybody hits you, you’re gonna get hurt, you know? Yes, I might not have been doing boxing; I’m not a boxer. But still, I am a fighter. And even if I wasn’t a fighter, I can hurt and I can harm somebody.

“I was watching and people were like, ‘No, he stands no chance, he has zero chance!’ There is not a fight on Earth that I have zero chance. That element of zero chance does not exist,” Ngannou continued. “If you look at it, I’m a man. Two men together, someone might have more technique, might know the sport. But even if I’ve never been in the gym, you still better watch out; I still have a chance. Maybe not as much, maybe not equal chance, but I still do have a chance.”

For now, Ngannou will seemingly put down the boxing gloves and return his gaze to the cage, where he made his name as one of the hardest hitters in combat sports.

After 2022 PFL champ Renan Ferreira stopped Bellator kingpin Ryan Bader in seconds this past February, he looks set to cash in on his reward by sharing the cage with Ngannou at an expected pay-per-view event in Saudi Arabia this October.

Manny Pacquiao vs. Ryan Garcia

I am fighting Manny Pacquiao guys, let’s get it.” While on a live stream, ‘King Ryan’ explained that this match will be going down later this year but definitely in 2024. “It’s coming soon, I’m trying to work on [a date]. “I was [in Japan figuring out] a fight date with Manny Pacquiao.” Ryan Garcia said, “Yeah, I’m going to fight him. This is the first time that it’s ever been announced. Yeah, it’s an exhibition.” [H/t BJPenn.com]

This past week, the Filipino-born athlete Manny Pacquiao took an exhibition boxing match against K-1 Kickboxing world champion Rukiya Anpo. It was officially declared a draw, but Japan’s Anpo did very well in the match utilizing his size advantage. During the Super Rizin 3 event, after the ‘Pac-Man’ fight, Ryan Garcia got in the ring and called out Manny Pacquiao and Rukiya Anpo.

Ryan Garcia

The Californian Ryan Garcia is a professional boxer with an impressive career for his young age. After an amazing amateur career, he turned pro and earned multiple boxing world titles. Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis served ‘King Ryan’ his first professional loss.

Controversy has been chasing the 25-year-old boxer. In his most recent match, he missed weight and then failed a drug test. Garcia has also been outspoken about people who are LGBTQ and was arrested for property damage. Plus, he was accused of being abusive by his ex-wife.

Manny Pacquiao

Amid his suspension from professional boxing competition following a failed drug test stemming from his decision win over Devin Haney, former world champion, Ryan Garcia has set sights on fights with both Conor McGregor and Sean O’Malley in bare knuckle fighting.

Garcia, a former interim WBC lightweight champion, saw his initial decision victory over former world champion, Haney overturned to an official ‘No Contest’ after he failed a post-fight drug test.

Staking his claim for a potential move to the UFC following a surprising call out from featherweight contender, Dan Ige, Victorville native, Garcia has now called for a bare knuckle fight with Octagon superstars, McGregor as well as undisputed bantamweight champion, O’Malley.

“I would fight – what’s his name? Sean O’Malley – ‘Suga’ Sean O’Malley?” Ryan Garcia said whilst attending Super Rizin 3 in Japan. “Conor McGregor in bare knuckle. But yes, it’s a very big possibility. I know how to wrestle, I know how to do a lot of things that people don’t know. So yeah. I would do it. I would knock out ‘Suga’ Sean O’Malley’s rainbow hair off his head.” (H/T MMA Fighting)

Along with a fight against the likes of McGregor or Montana striker, O’Malley, outspoken puncher, Garcia welcomed the chance to take on former multiple-time and division world champion, Manny Pacquiao following his exhibition matchup in the Japanese promotion.

“I would love to fight Manny Pacquiao – in a real fight, though, 12 rounds,” Ryan Garcia explained. “I wouldn’t do an exhibition at all. I would want to do a real fight, old lion versus young lion.”

Boasting a 24-1(1) professional record, Garcia’s sole professional loss came in the form of a knockout defeat to unbeaten finishing star, Gervonta Davis in the pair’s grudge match back in April of last year.

Mike Perry may have been unsuccessful in his fight with Jake Paul but he still received praise for his toughness.

“Platinum” may not be an experienced boxer or someone that can match Paul for size but he was always going to be a tough opponent to get out of there.

He did eventually get stopped in the sixth round but as expected with someone like Perry, many would have crumbled much earlier on.

What makes this even more impressive, and something that Perry is able to take out of this fight, is that he was compromised from the very first punch that his opponent landed.

Mike Perry Reveals That Jake Paul Broke His Rib With The First Punch That He Landed

Perry appeared on BS w/ Jake Paul where they spoke about the fight and revealed new details about how it all went down.

During the podcast, the former UFC fighter said that he is going to take some time off for his rib to recover after it was broken in the opening 10 seconds of the fight.

He said that he was so focused on keeping his hands up that it left an opening for Paul which he successfully took advantage of from the opening bell.

With his body badly injured, Perry was forced to drop his guard which left him more susceptible to head strikes which eventually closed the show on him.

“First 10 seconds, that first punch you hit me with, you popped me. Because look, I knew people were going to be like, ‘Put your hands up,’ Right, so I come out and I’m like this with my hands up and my rib was wide open. You hit me in the rib and I was like, ‘F*** that’s it, I’m putting my hands down.’ You popped it right away and I fought through it I mean there’s something, there’s pieces I can take that I can be proud of but you know, I think it was fair and square.”

Olympic Boxing Rules – How does Olympic boxing work?

Olympic boxing follows a distinct set of rules that differentiate it from professional boxing. Matches consist of three 3-minute rounds with 1-minute rest periods between rounds. Scoring uses the 10-point must system, where five judges award 10 points to the winner of each round and 9 points to the loser based on criteria such as quality punches landed, technical superiority, and competitiveness.

Boxers can win by points decision, knockout, referee stoppage, or disqualification. Protective gear includes gloves and mouthguards, with headgear required only for women since 2016. Fouls result in warnings and potential point deductions or disqualification.

The Olympic tournament follows a single-elimination format, with winners advancing until gold and silver medalists are determined, while both semifinal losers receive bronze medals. Weight categories differ for men and women, with specific glove sizes required for each.

Olympic Boxing Gloves

Boxers are required to wear gloves that are either red or blue, matching the color of their corner. For women, all gloves weigh 10 ounces. Men use either 10-ounce or 12-ounce gloves, depending on their weight class. Specifically, 10-ounce gloves are used for weight categories from 51 kg to 63.5 kg, while 12-ounce gloves are used for categories from 71 kg to +92 kg. Additionally, boxers must wear hand wraps underneath the gloves to protect their hands and wrists. For the USA Olympic Boxing Team 2024, they have multiple different weight classes.

When did boxing become an Olympic sport?

Boxing became an Olympic sport at the Games of the III Olympiad in St. Louis in 1904. This marked the debut of boxing in the modern Olympic Games. However, it’s worth noting that boxing has a longer history in Olympic competitions, as it was also part of the ancient Olympic Games in Greece, first appearing in 688 BC.
