Featherweight contender Brian Ortega is in hot water as it
has been revealed Korean rapper and friend of ‘Korean Zombie’ Jay Park has
filed a police report after being assaulted at UFC 248.

Ortega and Chan Sung Jung have a simmering rivalry which reached
the next level last month. ‘Korean Zombie’ appeared on the Ariel Helwani Show
and had some choice words for the former title challenger via his translator
Park. He accused Ortega of ducking him.

The 145lb contenders were supposed to meet at UFC Busan in
December however the fight fell through at late notice with Ortega citing an
injury, Korean Zombie instead fought and beat Frankie Edgar in his homeland.

Ortega is apparently still annoyed about the comments and directed his anger at Park. According to eyewitnesses Ortega approached Park and slapped him whilst ‘Korean Zombie’ was in the bathroom. Ortega was kicked out of UFC 248 and could face further repercussions for his actions.

According to the manager of ‘Korean Zombie’, Jason House of Idrium Sports Agency a police report has been filed against Ortega. In a statement to MMA Junkie House explained the UFC had requested both fighters behave appropriately at UFC 248, something his fighter honored throughout the night, he said.

“Both teams were contacted prior to
last night’s event and were asked by the UFC to be respectful and to not have
any confrontations,” House wrote. “Our team respected the UFC’s request and
maintained our professionalism throughout the night. Police reports were filed
immediately after the incident occurred and now it’s a matter for law
enforcement officials to handle. Korean Zombie has always been a class act and
will continue to be. Our objective remains the same; to put ourselves in the
best position both inside and outside the cage to become the featherweight
champion this year.”

Should Brian Ortega face criminal
charges for his actions at UFC 248?

The Korean Zombie has delivered a scathing message to Brian Ortega.

Following UFC 248 on Saturday night, Dana White revealed that the pair had gotten into a fight in the crowd. Many initially believed Zombie and Ortega got physical with each other.

However, it was later reported that once Zombie went to the bathroom, Ortega went up to his friend and musician Jay Park and slapped him. Ortega’s issue was with Park’s translation of Zombie’s previous comments about him.

That unsurprisingly didn’t go down well with Zombie one bit as he took to Facebook to respond to Ortega:

“Last night, you sat 10 meters away from me and Jay Park. For two hours nothing happened, so I thought everything was fine. But you f*cking attacked Jay Park while I went to the bathroom. Jay Park is not a professional fighter but a musician. You slapped a civilian who merely helped translate.

“Even worse, you were sitting there waiting until I would be absent and attacked Jay Park. It was not a fight like real men would do. What you have done is same as a grown up to beat a child. You should have attacked me. If so, I would have not been upset. You are such a coward for slapping a musician not a fighter.

“If you f*cking planned this to fight me and to use my name because people don’t remember your name anymore, then I congratulate you, it worked. I will fight you and I will knock you out and your f*cking face will be bloody. Now, your f*cking face stays in my mind and I will f*ck you up in the cage. I hope you won’t run away from me again.”

One thing is for sure — this fight needs to be made.

Brian Ortega was not pleased with recent comments from the Korean Zombie.

Zombie and Ortega were initially scheduled to fight each other at UFC Busan back in December. However, the latter had to pull out due to a partial ACL tear.

Frankie Edgar stepped up but was easily dealt with by Zombie who knocked him out in the first round. The South Korean has since been campaigning for a title shot.

In a recent appearance on Ariel Helwani’s MMA Show, Zombie also showed little interest in running things back with Ortega. He, instead, believes Ortega was ducking him despite “T-City” being injured.

That didn’t go down well with Ortega who also had some words for rapper Jay Park who was translating for Zombie:

“When I saw him in Korea he apologized and said sorry for the trash talk and I said all good because at least you came at me like a man,” Ortega wrote in an Instagram comment. “Now you just a b*tch dawg. Jay Park welcome to the fight game don’t be surprised if I slap the sh*t out of you when I see you. Having an injury and ducking are 2 different things.”

It will be interesting to see how Zombie responds to Ortega.

Although nothing is confirmed yet, former UFC title challenger Brian Ortega very much wants a fight with Zabit Magomedsharipov.

It was recently reported that a pivotal featherweight tilt between the two top contenders was being targeted for UFC 249 on April 18 in Brooklyn, New York.

It’s a fight that many in the mixed martial arts world have been waiting to see for months and Ortega is all in favor for it.

As for the reports of a fight at UFC 249, “T-City” is not sure what is happening as nothing is signed yet. However, he wants a five-rounder with Magomedsharipov.

“Just spoke to Brian Ortega (@BrianTcity) backstage,” ESPN’s Brett Okamoto wrote on Saturday. “He told me he is aware of the Zabit Magomedsharipov rumors but nothing is signed and he’s not sure what’s going on.

“He DOES want to fight Zabit five rounds. Says if Zabit wants to be a champ this year, take a five-rounder.”

Magomedsharipov has called for a title shot, but many, including Ortega evidently, believe he needs to prove himself by going five rounds. That’s because the Dagestan native has notably slowed down in many of his recent three-round fights.

If the fight takes place at UFC 249 — which is headlined by a lightweight title bout between Khabib Nurmagomedov and Tony Ferguson — it would have to be a three-rounder.

But the pair is certainly worthy of headlining a Fight Night event where the winner would have a good claim for the next title shot.

Mixed martial arts (MMA) fans will have to wait a bit longer to witness the return of Brian Ortega.

Initially, Ortega was expected to face “The Korean Zombie” Chan Sung Jung in the main event of UFC Busan this weekend in South Korea. However, Ortega was forced to pull from the bout earlier this month with a knee injury. Now, Frankie Edgar will delay his bantamweight debut to step in and face Jung.

Speaking to MMA Fighting, Ortega explained what happened during his training camp that led to the injury. Ortega divulged that his knee got caught against a wall during wrestling practice, which resulted in a tear in his knee.

“It was during wrestling,” Ortega said. “It was a Friday, Thanksgiving Friday or somewhere around there and I went to spar, regular sparring, whatever did everything. I have two fresh guys every two and a half minutes, fourth round I had the second fresh guy and he went for a single leg [takedown] against the wall and I tried to get out of it.

“He hiked it up, my knee stayed against the wall, my ankle went up and I just heard a big old tear. I heard a crazy noise in it and trying to figure out what it was and he thought it was the Velcro from my shin pad. I was like no dude, that was my knee.”

Ortega did as much as he could to test the waters and see if he could push through and still fight. However, the end result was a version of himself operating at about 30 percent of his capabilities. He ultimately decided the best option was to bow out of the contest with Jung.

“The second day I couldn’t walk and I was on crutches. After that, I was like no guys, I have to fight. I have to do this. We’re pretty much like three weeks out. I was like let’s see what we can do,” Ortega said.

“I gave myself a week and then after a week I tried training again and they’re like yeah you’re moving and yeah you’re back but this isn’t you. It’s like a 30 percent you.”

Thankfully, Ortega avoided the need for surgery and is in the process of rehabbing his knee back to full health. He thinks he’ll be done with rehab in about two months and will then be ready to jump back into another training camp.

“I’m doing a lot of rehab,” Ortega said. “I’m already doing things on it. They said two more months of rehab. I’ve been rehabbing everyday. Right now, I’m pretty much doing everything I used to do but around the injury while I’m rehabbing the injury.

“I’m still keeping up my same program. I’m still eating the same things. I’m still working out. I’m still moving. The other day I woke up at 165 [pounds] still. Like my body is ready for war.”
