UFC featherweight Brian Ortega has officially apologized
for slapping Korean rapper Jay Park at UFC 248.

‘T-City’ had previously been angered by Park who acted as translator for ‘Korean Zombie’ during an appearance on Ariel Helwani’s MMA Show last month.

This anger reached boiling point at UFC 248 this past weekend when Ortega approached and assaulted Park who was in attendance with his friend ‘Korean Zombie’ – who was not involved in the altercation after leaving the area to go the toilet.

Yesterday Ortega posted and then deleted the below message in which he explained his actions and refused to apologize to “instigator” Park.

“On May 9, 2018, Jay Park signed The
Korean Zombie to a management contract under AOMG Entertainment, of which Park
is the CEO, and soon after the trash talking began. When I finally made it to
Korea for the press conference, TKZ approached me with his translator (a real
one, not Jay Park) and said ‘I want to apologize for the trash talking, it was
my management that wants to do it to promote the fight’.” Brian Ortega wrote.
“I accepted his apology, shook his hand and we had a great press conference.
Soon after I tore my knee, and the fight got cancelled. Four weeks ago, The Korean
Zombie and Jay Park went on Ariel’s show and said I dodged the fight. ‘Dodging’
and ‘injury’ are two separate things, and since I already knew JP was the one
writing the script, that’s when I welcomed him to the fight game and warned him
to watch his mouth.”

“On Saturday night, I slapped three people at the same time. I apologize for slapping the ‘translator’, I apologize for slapping the ‘K-Pop Star’, but I don’t apologize for slapping the ‘instigator’.

Ortega appears to have had a change of heart after quickly deleting the post and issuing a proper apology last night, which read.

“I want to officially apologize to JPark for Saturday night, when Zombie is ready we can fight.”

Top featherweight contender Brian Ortega was surprising escorted out of UFC 248 after he allegedly slapped Korean musician Jay Park who is a friend of Chan Sung Jung.

The usually cool, calm and collected ‘T-City’ was riled by Park who acted as translator for Korean Zombie during a recent appearance on Ariel Helwani’s MMA Show.

On Saturday night he lived up to his words on social media and approached the Korean singer and delivered a slap, which resulted in him being thrown out of the event.

Posting on social
media last night Ortega reacted to the incident and refused to apologize to
Park who he calls and “instigator”. Check out the now deleted statement from
Ortega below.

Should Brian Ortega face further repercussions for his actions at UFC 248?

New footage has emerged showing the immediate aftermath of the altercation between UFC fighter Brian Ortega and Korean musician Jay Park.

The top contender at featherweight allegedly slapped the friend of divisional rival Chan Sung Jung AKA ‘The Korean Zombie’ at UFC 248 this weekend.

Ortega and ‘Korean Zombie’ had been scheduled to fight at UFC Busan late last year. Unfortunately, ‘T-City’ was forced to withdraw from the fight on late notice due to injury and MMA legend Frankie Edgar filled in against Jung.

During an appearance on Ariel Helwani’s MMA Show Jung said via Park that Ortega was scared to fight and was ducking him. Immediatley reacting to the comments on Feb 10, Ortega posted on social media, he said.

“When I saw him (Chan Sung Jung) in Korea he apologized and said sorry for the trash talk and I said all good because at least you came at me like a man. Now you just a b*tch dawg. Jay Park welcome to the fight game don’t be surprised if I slap the sh*t out of you when I see you. Having an injury and ducking are 2 different things.”

Ortega’s anger was clearly directed at Park at UFC 248 as he waited for ‘Korean Zombie’ to move away from the area before approaching and assualting his freind Park, who believes he did nothing wrong to justify Ortega’s actions, he said.

“For me, to be honest, I don’t feel like I did anything wrong. I just translated. I never put words in Zombie’s mouth. I’ve never put up a [social media] caption for him. I never told him to trash-talk. I have a lot of respect for fighters. They put everything on the line—they train hard, they fight for their family.” (Transcribed by ESPN)
