Brock Lesnar vs. Daniel Cormier appears to be still in the plans of the UFC. This is a fight that the Las Vegas-based promotion has been trying to make for some time now. It turns out that they actually have a timeline set for it now.

According to ESPN’s Ariel Helwani on SportsCenter, the UFC is planning to do the fight in August. That means it would be Cormier’s next title defense as the UFC heavyweight champion.

Thus, it appears this fight could take place at the upcoming UFC 240 pay-per-view event, which has yet to have a location or date announced.

The UFC heavyweight champion was able to successfully retain his title over Derrick Lewis at UFC 230. This fight served as the main event of the PPV at Madison Square Garden in New York City.

Lesnar’s last fight under the UFC banner came back at UFC 200 in July of 2016 against Mark Hunt. This marked Lesnar’s return to MMA after an almost five-year retirement. Lesnar won by a unanimous decision that night. It was subsequently overturned when it was revealed he failed two USADA-issued drug tests before the bout.

Lesnar is still fulfilling obligations with the WWE as he signed a new contract in November. Despite this, he is allowed a single fight in the UFC. Lesnar is slated to defend the WWE universal title against Seth Rollins at WrestleMania 35 this Sunday in East Rutherford, NJ at MetLife Stadium.

Daniel Cormier is still eyeing a fight with former UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar.

The UFC heavyweight champion was able to successfully retain his title over Derrick Lewis at UFC 230. This fight served as the main event of the PPV at Madison Square Garden in New York City.

It turns out that the reason DC hasn’t fought since then is due to him dealing with a back injury and that has prevented him from competing.

Lesnar is rumored to be returning to the UFC to take on Cormier, but that has yet to happen due to him focusing on his WWE career. That might not stop DC from entering the world of pro wrestling to speed up the process of this fight happening.

While doing a recent interview with ESPN, Cormier teased making an appearance at WrestleMania 35 next month. Lesnar is slated to defend the WWE universal title against Seth Rollins at this show. For DC, he thinks possibly costing Lesnar the title might make him get back into the Octagon to fight him.

“I don’t have a fight exactly scheduled yet but I got my eyes on Brock Lesnar,” Cormier stated. “I may go to the WWE’s WrestleMania and I may go cost him his title over there so he can hurry up and get to the UFC so I can beat him here.”

Paul Heyman Voices His Confidence In Lesnar vs. Cormier Happening

Brock Lesnar’s advocate, Paul Heyman, has given his take on the chances of this fight happening.

Paul Heyman voices confidence in the UFC making a fight happen between heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier and Brock Lesnar.

It’s been established that Cormier would like to make his next title defense against Lesnar at the UFC 233 event. Whether that fight happens remains to be seen. This is the target date but that may have changed. The reason for that is due to Cormier just beating Derrick Lewis at the UFC 230 event earlier this month.

This feud kicked off when Lesnar was invited by Cormier into the cage after he was able to score a KO win over Stipe Miocic. He won the UFC heavyweight title in the main event of the UFC 226 pay-per-view event. This fight went down at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

This led to Lesnar accepting the invitation and shoving Cormier in the process. He then called out the heavyweight division. Lesnar told DC that he was coming for him. As a result, it was designed to start to the build for this upcoming fight.

Although Heyman is a manager for Lesnar on WWE television, he doesn’t have an actual managerial position. However, the two have been friends for decades. TMZ Sports recently caught up with Heyman where he talked about this potential fight. At the end of the day, Heyman thinks that as long as the money is right, this fight goes down.

“As long as Daniel Cormier has the balls to step into the Octagon and put his title up against Brock Lesnar, and UFC comes up with the money for Brock Lesnar, I don’t see anything that would keep Brock Lesnar from taking the fight,” Heyman said.

Brock Lesnar Signs New WWE Deal, Putting Daniel Cormier Fight In Doubt

Daniel Cormier may end up fighting Jon Jones for a third time as a result.

Brock Lesnar signs new deal with the WWE that could put his future in the UFC in some doubt.

Over the weekend at the UFC 230 pay-per-view event, Daniel Cormier was able to successfully retain his heavyweight title over Derrick Lewis. It’s been established that Cormier would like to make his next title defense against Lesnar at the UFC 233 event.

However, Dave Meltzer of MMA Fighting is reporting that this fight is now in jeopardy after Lesnar “secretly” signed a new deal with the WWE. The reason for this was due to WWE’s top star, Roman Reigns, being put on the sidelines. He is currently battling leukemia.

Reigns was the Universal Champion but due to his illness, had to vacate it. Then, Lesnar beat Braun Strowman at the WWE Crown Jewel event in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia to win the title.

According to the report, this deal does allow Lesnar to fight in the UFC. But with such big money being given to him by the WWE, it puts his future in the UFC in doubt. Also, with Cormier saying he wants to retire by March, a fight against Lesnar seems less likely now due to his recent defense.

“Lesnar agreed secretly to the new deal, and won the pro wrestling championship again. The new deal is for multiple shows. But its length of time has been kept secretive. But it is known that Lesnar is scheduled as late as April of next year for WrestleMania.”

Other Plans That Doesn’t Involve Brock Lesnar

Cormier has gone back and forth on his stance about the third fight with Jon Jones. At first, he said that he would consider going down to light heavyweight to fight him again. However, he backtracked from that talk after beating Lewis.

If Jones can get past Alexander Gustafsson in their UFC 232 light heavyweight rematch then it could get interesting. With Lesnar potentially not being an option next year for Cormier, Jones might be the last fight of DC’s career.

Quote: Buzz For Brock Lesnar vs. Daniel Cormier Has Faded

Chael Sonnen sounds off on what he sees as little luster for this fight.

Chael Sonnen believes that the buzz for the potential fight between Brock Lesnar and Daniel Cormier has reduced. He sees it as a lackluster fight right now in the eyes of the general public.

Lesnar had to enter into the USADA testing pool that forced him to be tested for six months before fighting again. UFC President Dana White has gone on record by saying that the plan is to make Lesnar vs. Cormier for the heavyweight title next January.

However, that fight may be in jeopardy. Cormier will defend his title against Derrick Lewis in this week’s UFC 230 headliner. Depending on what happens there, the fight may be delayed or not even happen.

The former title contender recently talked about this potential fight in a recent video on his YouTube channel and if Lesnar will appear at UFC 230.

“So Brock’s supposed to be at (UFC) 230,” Sonnen said (H/T to MMANews). “Let’s see if he shows up, I hope that he does. I feel like (it has) lost some luster. Which can be built right back but a little luster on ‘DC’ vs. Brock. And what I mean by that, not in terms of we would all like to see that match. That we all hope that match happens. I just seemed like there was a major fire around it that then went away.”

Sonnen Sounds Off

Sonnen continued by stating that Cormier has backtracked from saying he would be fighting Lesnar to saying he thinks he will.

“To the point where ‘DC’ was even saying things like, ‘hey I think I’m fighting Brock.’ Which started out with, ‘yes I am fighting Brock.’ Then it turned into ‘I think I’m fighting him.’ I’m waiting to see what happens with Lesnar.”

Sonnen would love to see some exchange between Lesnar and Cormier at UFC 230 in order to put fuel on the fire of this fight.

“I would love for him to be there because I think that would add back some fuel to the flame. That’s needed, because that is a huge match should that thing come together.”
