Dana White also teased Brock Lesnar being cageside at UFC 230

Dana White drops teaser about former UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar fighting sooner rather than later. Lesnar’s last fight under the UFC banner came back at UFC 200 in July of 2016 against Mark Hunt. This marked Lesnar’s return to MMA after an almost five-year retirement.

As seen in the fight, Lesnar won a unanimous decision that night. It was subsequently overturned when it was revealed he failed two USADA-issued drug tests before the bout. This led to Hunt filing a civil suit against Lesnar and the UFC to settle his grievances.

Lesnar had to enter into the USADA testing pool that forced him to be tested for six months before fighting again. If you recall, back at the UFC 226 pay-per-view event, the UFC set up a fight between Lesnar and Daniel Cormier. This fight was expected to be for the heavyweight title and going down in January.

However, that fight is in jeopardy of happening. The reason for that is due to Cormier making his next title defense against Derrick Lewis in the headliner of UFC 230. The expectation is that if Cormier can get past the hard-hitting star, then he would fight Lesnar next.

The UFC President recently went on record by stating that Lesnar might be cageside for the UFC 230 event. He also plans on having the former champ fight soon.

“Brock Lesnar might be in New York,” White told ESPN. “That’s not guaranteed, we haven’t talked about it or anything. But I wouldn’t be surprised if he called and said, ‘I’m coming to the fight.’ I plan on Brock Lesnar fighting soon.”

The UFC 230 pay-per-view event is set to take place on Saturday, November 3, 2018 at Madison Square Garden in Manhattan, New York City. The main card will air on pay-per-view at 10 p.m. ET. The preliminary card will air on FOX Sports 1 at 8 p.m. ET and the promotion’s streaming service, UFC Fight Pass.

Alexander Volkov Claims UFC Went Back On Their Title Shot Promise

They also gave him a new fight.

Alexander Volkov claims that the UFC promised him a shot at the heavyweight title but then went back on their word.

As seen in the main event of UFC London event (March 17, 2018) on the promotion’s streaming service, UFC Fight Pass, at The O2 Arena in London, England, Volkov knocked out former UFC heavyweight champion Fabrício Werdum. Following the fight, he was calling for a title shot and apparently the promotion agreed.

Going Backwards

However, there was one person who made that all changed. Former UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar. He had to enter into the USADA testing pool that forced him to be tested for six months before fighting again.

UFC President Dana White has gone on record by saying that the plan is to make Lesnar vs. Daniel Cormier for the heavyweight title that is slated to go down in January. Now, Volkov is slated to take on hard-hitting heavyweight star Derrick Lewis at the UFC 229 pay-per-view event.

Alexander Volkov Claims

“Time changed, and it is what it is,” Volkov told MMAJunkie. “For now, Brock Lesnar coming to the UFC is a big name,” he said. “I understand why the UFC put him in a championship fight, because lower ranked fighters like me, Francis Ngannou, Tai Tuivasa, we’re really good fighters, but we don’t have a good name in U.S.”

“This fight gives us time to introduce ourselves. So I will use this fight the best I can use it, and we’ll wait for my title shot.”

The UFC 229 pay-per-view event is set to take place on Saturday, October 6, 2018 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. The main card will air on pay-per-view at 10 p.m. ET while the preliminary card will air on FOX Sports 1 at 8 p.m. ET and the promotion’s streaming service, UFC Fight Pass.

The early betting odds for the Brock Lesnar vs. Daniel Cormier fight have been released.

Despite the fact that the latest pay-per-view event for the UFC is not even 24-hours in the books, it hasn’t stopped oddsmakers from releasing the odds for this super fight.

After ‘DC’ was able to score a KO win over Stipe Miocic to win the UFC heavyweight title in the main event of Saturday’s (July 7, 2018) UFC 226 pay-per-view event at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, there was an intense moment between Cormier and the former UFC heavyweight champion.

Lesnar’s last fight under the UFC banner came back at UFC 200 in July of 2016 against Mark Hunt. This marked Lesnar’s return to MMA after an almost five-year retirement.

As seen in the fight, Lesnar won a unanimous decision that night which was subsequently overturned when it was revealed he failed two USADA-issued drug tests before the bout. This led to Hunt filing a civil suit against Lesnar and the UFC to settle his grievances.

Lesnar is still under contract with the WWE until August and has yet to enter into the USADA testing pool, which would force him to be tested for six months before fighting again. UFC President Dana White has gone on record by saying that the plan is to make this fight happen but did not give an official date for it to happen. Switching gears, let’s take a look at the early betting odds.

MMAjunkie odds consultant Joey Oddessa said he planned to open “The Oddessa Line” at -200 for Cormier and +180 for Lesnar. For those who plan on betting on this fight, let’s break it down.

A winning $100 bet on Cormier would net a profit of $50 while on the flip side, a winning $100 bet on Lesnar would garner a profit of $180.

“I know the public will bet Lesnar, but Cormier is the better fighter,” Oddessa told MMAjunkie.

USADA Clarifies Brock Lesnar’s Status In Drug-Testing Pool

USADA has confirmed the status of Brock Lesnar in their drug-testing pool.

USADA has confirmed the status of Brock Lesnar in their drug-testing pool.

The former UFC heavyweight champion and current WWE universal champion was invited by Daniel Cormier into the cage after he was able to score a KO win over Stipe Miocic to win the UFC heavyweight title in the main event of Saturday’s (July 7, 2018) UFC 226 pay-per-view event at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

This led to Lesnar accepting the invitation and shoving Cormier in the process. He then called out the heavyweight division and told DC that he was coming for him, which was designed to start to the build for this upcoming fight.

Lesnar has competed just once inside of the cage since 2011. The former UFC champion holds notable wins over fighters such as Shane Carwin Randy Couture and Frank Mir.

Hard-hitting heavyweight star Mark Hunt is the last man to have fought Lesnar in the Octagon at UFC 200 in 2016. This marked Lesnar’s return to MMA after an almost five-year retirement.

As seen in the fight, Lesnar won a unanimous decision that night which was subsequently overturned when it was revealed he failed two USADA issued drug tests before the bout. This led to Hunt filing a civil suit against Lesnar and the UFC to settle his grievances.

Coming into this fight, there was speculation that Lesnar might show up to UFC 226 to call out the winner of this main event fight and that is exactly what happened.

Now, the big question is when Lesnar will get into the USADA drug-testing pool and the agency as given some insight into the situation.

A spokesperson for the agency confirmed to MMA Fighting that the former UFC heavyweight champion has started the process to get back in the USADA drug-testing pool.

With Lesnar back in the pool, he will still have to serve a little more than six months left of his previous suspension. Thus, he is not able to fight inside of the Octagon until January.

It should be noted that the spokesperson was not able to go into detail as to what Lesnar has done so far regarding beginning the process.

Daniel Cormier Vows Brock Lesnar Will Pay For UFC 226 Actions

Daniel Cormier will not let the actions of Brock Lesnar at UFC 226 go unanswered.

Daniel Cormier will not let the actions of Brock Lesnar at UFC 226 go unanswered.

Former UFC heavyweight champion and current WWE universal champion Brock Lesnar made an appearance at this event and made it clear what his intentions were.

As seen in the main event of Saturday’s (July 7, 2018) UFC 226 pay-per-view event at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, Cormier was able to score a KO win over Miocic to win the UFC heavyweight title.

Then, things got out of hand. Cormier invited Lesnar inside the Octagon with Lesnar accepting the invitation and shoving Cormier in the process.

Following the fight, DC gave his take on the situation and his upcoming fight with Lesnar that has yet to be made official. Keep in mind that no date for this fight has yet to be revealed as well.

”I run sprints before every fight, we find a hallway and I bust out as many sprints as I can to get my heartrate up,” Cormier said at the post-fight press conference (transcript courtesy of MMAMania). “As I was walking back into the arena I saw Brock Lesnar walking behind me so I’m like ‘Huh, what’s Brock Lesnar doing here,’ you know? And then when I’m in the Octagon waiting for Stipe he was standing there kind of smirking at me. So I was like ‘Oh, so I guess Brock Lesnar is here to pick a fight.’ So I called him out. I’ve known him for a long time, and I told him I’d kick his butt, and I will kick his butt when we fight.”

”I’ve known Brock since 1997, that’s why when he pushed me like that it was very odd,” Cormier said. “Brock and I wrestled in the 1998 Junior College finals together. I was 197, he was the heavyweight champ. Then when he was at Minnesota I was at Oklahoma State so we wrestled each other twice a year at duel meets, not against each other but the teams wrestle each other. And then when Brock was wrestling WWE, he was always great to me and my family. We go to the matches, he’d take pictures with my kids. I guess when you step in the Octagon, your emotions are raised a little bit.”

Cormier has made it clear that he wants to hang up his gloves by March 20th, 2019, the day he turns 40 years old. Thus, the reason he believes that he can only accept two fights before then.

He has gone on record by stating that he wants to fight Lesnar, which appears to be in the works, as well as trilogy fight against Jon Jones.

In the post-fight presser, UFC President Dana White said the heat between Lesnar and Cormier came from their amateur wrestling days. However, DC has a different take on their relationship.

”You got a guy like Brock Lesnar in front of you and you don’t go crazy on him? Are you crazy?” Cormier said. “When Brock decided to step into the Octagon with me, he’s a pro wrestler, he does fake fighting. So I’ll do fake fighting with you until I put my fist upside your face. I’ll do fake fighting with you, Brock, and then I’ll punch you upside the head.”

”Brock Lesnar is the champion of the WWE, so when he comes over here there’s no script,” he said later. “There’s no Vince McMahon saying ‘DC, lay easy on the punches!’ There’s no Braun Strowman that, when Brock punches him hard on purpose, isn’t going to respond. The moment Brock Lesnar punches me, I’m going to get in his *** and I’m gonna have him running across that Octagon like a lot of those other dudes did.”

“So he can be big and bad and tough right now, but when that cage door closes he’s going to have to answer for his words, and he’s definitely going to answer for that shove.”

Daniel Cormier is one again fighting at heavyweight, where he was undefeated and won the Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix. Now, the UFC light heavyweight champion will be taking on heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic, and a big money fight with Brock Lesnar looms ahead for the winner.

Cormier gave his thoughts on a potential fight with Brock Lesnar during the UFC’s 25th Anniversary press conference (via MMA Fighting):

“That thing never happens unless I get past Stipe, but just hearing out loud was like, oh my goodness,” Cormier said. “Hey, I know that when I fight Jon Jones, I make a lot of money. I know that if I was to ever fight a Brock Lesnar, I’m going to make even more money than I’ve ever made in entire life. And ultimately, championships and money is why we do this. I don’t care for all the other stuff. I want to get paid. I’m almost 40, the door’s about to close on me, so why not ride out into the sunset with a massive payday? Truckloads of money. Back up Brinks truck to Gilroy, California if you fight Brock Lesnar, I’m telling you.”

“He told me last time, right? When that thing broke that he was fighting at UFC 200, I said, ‘Big Brock, is it Christmas morning in the Cormier household?’ He goes, ‘Merry Christmas, DC. You’re welcome.’ That’s what he told me. He knows that the money’s coming. When he’s on your card or if you’re fighting against him, he knows that you’re getting paid.”

Cormier most recently defeated surging prospect Volkan Oezdemir with second-round strikes after repeatedly taking down the striker and battering him on the feet. It was a dominant performance from Cormier and coupled with Miocic’s own impressive win over Francis Ngannou on that same card, the super fight between the two became a reality.

Meanwhile, former UFC heavyweight champion Lesnar has bounced back between WWE and the UFC, most recently beating Mark Hunt at UFC 200 before the result was overturned to a no-contest following a failed USADA tests by Lesnar.

Lately, talk has picked up over his return to the Octagon, with the specific intent of getting him in there with the winner of Cormier Vs. Miocic, which takes places at UFC 226 on July 7.

If Cormier were indeed to beat Miocic, how would a fight with Lesnar look for the light heavyweight champion?
