Brock Lesnar was supposed to return to the Octagon to take on Daniel Cormier. Yet, that never happened as he stayed with WWE.

Now, however, Kurt Angle was on Ariel Helwani’s MMA Show where he said Brock would only come back to fight Jon Jones.

“I know he said that he’s retired,” Kurt Angle said. “The one fight he wants, and I don’t know if it’s ever going to happen, but he wants to go up against Jon Jones.”

Jon Jones then saw it and responded on Twitter with the following:

“Brock is way too slow, I’ll embarrass him,” he wrote.

Of course, Lesnar last fought back at UFC 200 where he beat Mark Hunt by decision but it was overturned to a no-contest due to Lesnar failing a drug test. He is currently 5-3 and one no-contest in his career where he is also the former UFC heavyweight champion. He beat Randy Couture at UFC 91 in just his fourth pro fight to win the title then defended it against Frank Mir, and Shane Carwin before losing it to Cain Velasquez by TKO. In his next fight he lost by TKO to Alistair Overeem and left for WWE before coming back at UFC 200.

Jones, meanwhile, is arguably the greatest fighter of all-time and is coming off of a split-decision win over Thiago Santos at UFC 239. He once again defended his light heavyweight title and did so for the second time in 2019.

If Brock Lesnar does return, a fight against Jon Jones would no doubt be a massive payday for both.

Light heavyweight champion Jon Jones made headlines when he called out former heavyweight champ and WWE superstar Brock Lesnar after knocking out Daniel Cormier at July 29’s UFC 214 from Anaheim.

While the callout left many fight fans and pundits scratching their heads, especially since Lesnar retired after a failed PED test following his fight with Mark Hunt at UFC 200, the idea has picked up steam regardless.

Jones coach Mike Winkeljohn discussed the idea of a Jones vs Lesnar super fight, and revealed some of the thought behind it:

“Jon is a light heavyweight, so you can’t ask somebody just to step up and fight the best in the world at heavyweight and forgo the money fight against someone who they think they can beat. Jon said it himself, he thinks a good big man always beats a good smaller man. Jon Jones said that himself in a press conference. Do I think Jon thinks he can beat Stipe? Yeah. Do I think he might have said it? Yes. But I like the Brock Lesnar fight for right now. And we need to work on some skills and get some weight on Jon before he fights with Stipe, because I think that Stipe is a harder fight.”

Miocic has been on an absolute tear since winning the belt from Fabricio Werdum last year. He’s knocked out every title challenger since then, each one in the first round.

Meanwhile, Lesnar’s status as a former champ and rabid wrestling fan base could equate to a big-money fight for Jones.

Clearly Miocic is the more relevant fight if Jones really wants to make a splash in the heavyweight division, but with Lesnar being a far bigger draw than Stipe, the decision to pursue Lesnar makes more sense for the light heavyweight champ at the moment.

Jon Jones is once again your light heavyweight champion after a spectacular knockout over Daniel Cormier at UFC 214 from Anaheim on Saturday night.

Cormier may have kept it competitive for the first two rounds, but by the third Jones had found his rhythm and scored the knockout. After the championship-clinching knockout, Jones didn’t hesitate to call out former UFC heavyweight champ and WWE superstar Brock Lesnar in his post-fight speech.

“Bones” revealed why he wanted a fight with Lesnar at the UFC 214 post-fight press conference. Jones was honest with his opinion that Lesnar is a beatable opponent who brings a ton of attention from the pro-wrestling world, resulting in a clearly huge payday and the opportunity to bring his fans outside the sport over to MMA:

“Well, I just think it’s a winnable match-up. Obviously Brock Lesnar has millions of followers outside of MMA, so that’s huge for our sport, to kind of steal some of those followers. And I feel like Brock, he has a pretty limited game, and uh, I just think it’s a winnable fight, and there’s just so much reward involved, and I just want to do it.”

As far as super fights go, don’t expect Jones to look anywhere but Lesnar. “Bones” was adamant about not fighting former longtime middleweight champion and friend Anderson Silva:

“I have no interest in Anderson Silva. Anderson Silva has been my inspiration for so many years. He is aging, and he is still magnificent, but I would never want to defeat Anderson, and I would never want to be defeated by Anderson. I would love to have that open vibe that we have where we can just call each other and be there for each other, we can support each other for years to come. There’s something awesome when you go from idolizing someone to that person being your friend. And that’s what I have in a guy like Anderson, and I want to keep it.”

So there you have it, folks. Jones vs, Lesnar is gaining some serious momentum, and with the light heavyweight champ vocalizing his intent to take on the 265-pound beast, this fight could actually happen.

Former longtime UFC light heavyweight champion and former pound-for-pound king Jon “Bones” Jones will finally make his long awaited return to action in the main event of this weekend’s (July 29, 2017) UFC 214 from the Honda Center in Anaheim, California, as he’s set to rematch bitter rival and current champion Daniel Cormier.

Despite Cormier vs. Jones being the biggest bout of the year, rumors have begun to swirl regarding Jones’ future inside the Octagon, and one possibility that has been brought to the table surrounds a potential clash between Jones and former heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar.

Jones commented on the situation earlier this week during a Facebook live chat:

“I would love to fight Brock Lesnar,” he said. “He’s a massive dude, it would be a massive draw, really big for the sport. It would be a great challenge. That’s a big old boy. I doubt Brock Lesnar would take that fight, though. I definitely wouldn’t try to wrestle with him the whole time. I can’t tell you what I would do.”

Lesnar, who hasn’t competed since UFC 200, and is currently serving out a USADA (United States Anti-Doping Agency) suspension, then reacted to Jones’ comments, and shared the same interest in the potential bout:

“Would I fight Jon Jones? Anytime, anywhere,” Lesnar told the AP. “Right now he should be worried about D.C. on Saturday night.”

Despite the interest from both fighters, however, UFC President Dana White says that he hasn’t spoken with Lesnar:

“I haven’t talked to Brock Lesnar,” White said at the UFC 214 pre-fight press conference earlier today. “I don’t know. Sounds like nobody believes me, but it’s true. I have not talked to Brock Lesnar.”

Jones then responded:

“I’ll deal with Daniel, then I’ll deal with Brock Lesnar,” he said.

What do you make of the situation?
