UFC President Dana White teased another Brock Lesnar return on Sunday night after posting a picture of himself with the former heavyweight champion and WWE superstar.
Lesnar held the UFC heavyweight title from 2008 until 2010, beating Randy Couture, Frank Mir, and Shane Carwin before a stomach illness and tough losses to Alistair Overeem and Cain Velázquez cut his prime short.
He left the UFC to return to his roots in professional wrestling but did make a comeback at UFC 200, where his victory over Mark Hunt was overturned due to a failed performance-enhancing drug test.
White had expressed serious interest in putting together a Lesnar vs. Jon Jones fight prior to Jones subsequent failed drug test, but it seems as if another Lesnar comeback is on the table considering White’s post, which he posted on his Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram pages.
The picture shows an in-shape Lesnar wearing a UFC t-shirt next to a beaming Dana White, whose smile suggests some kind of deeper meaning. The only caption is a smiley face emoji, which only furthers the suggestion that the two are making or have already made a deal.
Do you expect to see the former heavyweight champion back in action? Or is White’s social media post just intended to throw fight fans for a loop?
Just over a month ago the UFC attempted to highlight the year with their 200th pay-per-view show. On July 9, 2016 fans were promised a blockbuster, ground breaking card from Las Vegas, Nevada. Oddly enough, that fateful night in the desert may well have proved the key to a legitimate fighters union finally being formed.
The reason behind this highly unexpected chain reaction? Two failed drug tests, featuring the main and co-main event stars, that threw the entire card in to turmoil.
When interim light-heavyweight champion Jon Jones was pulled from the card three days out, anxiety for the event was fraught among fight fans. How would the card recover with so little time to shuffle things around? Former middleweight champion Anderson Silva gallantly stepped in to face Daniel Cormier. We now know that fight wasn’t exactly the most entertaining. We are also too aware that Jones’ discrepancy wasn’t the only one.
The immediate moments after the somewhat lacklustre UFC 200 event was filled with reflections. Was the UFC’s biggest card ever a bust? Well, yeah, and it was only going to get worse. Now it was Brock Lesnar’s turn to get scalped by USADA, who announced he’d failed a drug test on July 9 and also June 28. Both Lesnar and Jones tested positive for a form of anti-estrogen called Clomiphene. Here’s where things got interesting.
Distraught by the fact Lesnar had banked a whopping $2.5 million disclosed pay check, Mark Hunt went on the attack. He blasted the UFC and Lesnar, who’d beaten him by decision in the UFC 200 co-main event, demanding the WWE star’s entire purse. He was denied, as the promotion announced they wouldn’t fine Lesnar or Jones, and this led to outrage from ‘The Super Samoan.’
Hunt announced he would be starting a fighters union. Weeks later it was revealed that a fighters association had indeed been formed, headed by sports agent Jeff Borris. Hunt’s arguments may well have a proper platform to be launched from, as he is continuing to do so at present over social media. The hard-hitting former K-1 champion points out the UFC ‘took money over his health’ in allowing Lesnar to compete while ‘they knew he was doping.’
I will not let this go. Fighting is something I used to love doing ok now these cheating scum plus this piece of shit company has screwed me over. They would rather make millions of dollars over my fucking health and every fighter who abides by the rules they set, just to let some steroid using loser make his own rules. I absolutely believe they knew about him doping and should be held accountable for putting my life come second to their greed.
In the words of Nate Diaz – ‘I’m not surprised’ is the standard reaction to the news that broke last night (Friday July 16, 2016). Funnily enough its fellow UFC fighters who are sharing this sentiment about Brock Lesnar’s failed drug test in the wake of USADA’s (United States Anti Doping Agency) second major scalp
In the words of Nate Diaz – ‘I’m not surprised’ is the standard reaction to the news that broke last night (Friday July 16, 2016). Funnily enough its fellow UFC fighters who are sharing this sentiment about Brock Lesnar’s failed drug test in the wake of USADA’s (United States Anti Doping Agency) second major scalp in the span of two weeks. UFC 200, it seems, is perhaps the most cursed card of all time, as well as the most disappointing. All this drama coincides with the change of ownership of the promotion.
Mark Hunt, who lost a unanimous decision to ‘jacked white boy’ and WWE (World Wrestling Entertainment) superstar Brock Lesnar on July 9 has since vocalised his displeasure. After learning ‘The Beast’ failed a dope screen dating back to June 28, ‘The Super Samoan’ has asked for half of Lesnar’s record-breaking $2.5 million purse. Either that, or Hunt will walk.
What seemed to be a successful partnership with the WWE is now turning in to a storm of bad media. Cross promotion between the two gargantuan entities in the middle of UFC 200 now has a sense of tragic comedy about it, and now Brock Lesnar has broken his silence on the failed USADA test. Read his official statement via The Star Phoenix:
“We will get to the bottom of this,”
Yes those eight words are actually how Lesnar responded to this dire mess. In terms of the after thoughts on the supposed-to-be historic show that was UFC 200, there aren’t many other way that the memory of that night could be soured any further.
There are no winners to emerge from this murky situation, only lessons to be learned. Nobody is safe from USADA, and once again some words from popular lightweight Nate Diaz ring true; EVERYONE IS ON STEROIDS!
