UFC ring announcer Bruce Buffer has suggested a unique way to describe Alexander Volkanovski’s performance against Islam Makhachev at UFC 284. The highly-anticipated champion-versus-champion matchup was set up immediately after the conclusion of UFC 280, which saw Islam Makhachev claim the promotion’s lightweight title by submitting Charles Oliveira. Volkanovski was in attendance for that fight…

Anthony Johnson has put out a warning towards Bruce Buffer.
Anthony Johnson is coming to the defense of himself and all other former UFC fighters who have taken other opportunities. Recently, Bruce Buffer has come out and spoke about how he feels UFC fighters are not better off when they leave the organization. Johnson, who left the UFC back in Dec. of 2020, decided to sign with Bellator. He has found happiness in his new fight home and wants people to know that the UFC is not the end-all, be-all in fighting.
Buffer who was discussing the probability of Francis Ngnanou leaving the UFC in search of other fight opportunities, had this to say.
“No offense to other organizations, but you become irrelevant when you leave the UFC after a while,” Buffer said on his podcast (via MMA Mania). “Instead of losing in the UFC your contract is being ended in the UFC and you fall from the Octagon down into the Bellators.”
Johnson took offense to this since he is now one of the top light heavyweight fighters on the Bellator roster. Johnson has admitted to being happier with Bellator and having a better financial situation. Johnson took to Instagram to respond to Buffer.
“Bruce needs to stay off crack,” Johnson commented on a post. “How’s anything irrelevant when providing food and shelter for family? Oh, by the way, I got paid way more for moving to another organization. Bruce has his guaranteed money so he can talk,” Johnson finished. “Fighters have to wait and actually entertain people when they get the chance to make some money.”
More and more frequently, we are seeing former UFC fighters heading in a different direction when they become free agents. Some have decided to try their hand at boxing, like Anderson Silva and Tyron Woodley. Others have proven that different MMA organizations could be a nice fit. Bellator is a common landing spot along with PFL and now Khabib Nurmagomedov’s MMA organization, Eagle FC.
Anthony Johnson (23-6 MMA) has taken to social media to respond to some of Bruce Buffer’s recent comments on his podcast series ‘IT’S TIME!!!‘. Anthony Johnson (23-6 MMA) has taken to social media to respond to some of Bruce Buffer’s recent comments on his podcast series ‘IT’S TIME!!!‘.
The long-time UFC announcer took a chance to try and convince current UFC Heavyweight Champion, Francis Ngannou to stay with the promotion, amid of the fighters’ current contract dispute.
“No offense to other organizations, but you become irrelevant when you leave the UFC after a while. Instead of losing in the UFC your contract is being ended in the UFC, and you fall from the Octagon down into Bellator [etc]. Let’s just hope everybody gets together [to sort out a deal].”
Buffer, like many of us, is a fan of the sport and doesn’t want to see Ngannou vacate what he has now with the UFC.
How did Bellator’s Light heavyweight contender, Anthony Johnson take to these comments?
Nonetheless, ‘Rumble’ Johnson wasn’t happy to hear Bellator being used as an example of post-UFC irrelevancy.
“Bruce needs to stay off the crack,” Johnson said. “How’s anything irrelevant when providing food and shelter for family? Oh, by the way, I got paid more for moving to another organisation.”

The former 2x UFC title challenger came out of retirement in 2021 and instead of jumping back into the octagon, Johnson decided to sign a multi-year deal with Bellator instead.
The American has fought only once since joining Bellator, where he beat José Augusto (7-3 MMA) in the second round via Knockout.
It is still unsure when we will see Anthony Johnson back in action as he is still not cleared to fight, with the same issue which forced him out of a title shot in October last year, according to Scott Coker.
Do you fighters become “irrelevant” when they leave the UFC?

On the latest episode of his podcast, ITS TIME!!! With Bruce Buffer, ‘the veteran voice of the octagon’ sat down with Heavyweight King Francis Ngannou to discuss the waves he’s made in the combat sports world as of late.
After beginning the show by showering ‘The Predator’ with his utmost praise and awe, Buffer warned Ngannou about the obstacles one may bring upon themself if they choose to butt heads with UFC Brass.
Buffer also made it known to Ngannou that greener pastures are not always guaranteed to lie ahead.

Bruce Buffer And Francis Ngannou Discuss Heavyweight Title Win
Of course, Buffer is one of the UFC’s most recognizable employees so to think he would express an adversary view to the company is beyond farfetched. He did however do a stellar job of providing Ngannou with a neutral platform and an unbiased line of questioning throughout the interview.
Buffer asked Ngannou if his third round bodyslam on Ciryl Gane was a predetermined plan of attack or a spur-of-the-moment move, a question Ngannou was glad to answer.
“The strategy was, whatever opportunity came I would take it,” Ngannou said. “My team knew my wrestling, they know my grapple. They know what I’m capable of and what I’m confident of. If he give me that, I will take it.”
Ngannou is slated to be out for up to a year as he will repair a severely damaged knee.
Do you think Francis Ngannou has fought in his last UFC fight?
Bruce Buffer will be absent from the UFC 267 event due to a COVID-19 diagnosis. The “Voice of the Octagon” will be at home resting during UFC 267. Bruce Buffer, who has had the pleasure of announcing all numbered UFC events since 1996, will miss out this weekend. UFC president Dana White announced the news […]
“Buffer got COVID,” White said. “He didn’t want to make this trip. He’s home relaxing and recovering from COVID.”
Stepping in for Buffer will be Joe Martinez, who has often been seen on announcer duties when Buffer is not present. This UFC 267 is being billed as a “free” pay-per-view event and will be the first “PPV” Buffer has missed since coming to the UFC.
“I just finished my 14-day quarantine and feeling like myself again and will be ready to roar the roof off Madison Square Garden next week.” Buffer wrote to Helwani. My 25-year-plus Cal Ripkin streak is over, but I doubt it will ever be beaten.”
The rest of the broadcast team will be made up of Jon Anik on play-by-play with Daniel Cormier and Paul Felder also cageside. Jon Gooden will be the fourth man on the team. Since this “PPV” is a free event (with ESPN+ subscription), the start time is much earlier. This is also due to the location, which is Abu Dhabi. The broadcast will begin at 10:30 AM. ET/7:30 AM PT.
