Bryce Mitchell claims Makhachev Volkanovski fight was rigged UFC

UFC featherweight contender, Bryce Mitchell has claimed February’s undisputed lightweight title fight between division champion, Islam Makhachev, and featherweight kingpin, Alexander Volkanovski was “rigged as f*ck” – slapping match-fixing accusations on the organization.

Mitchell, who most recently featured at UFC 282 back in December of last year, slumping to his first professional mixed martial arts loss with a second round arm-triangle submission loss to surging division contender, Ilia Topuria.

Currently boasting the #11 rank in the official featherweight pile, Mitchell is scheduled to return to the Octagon at UFC 288 in May at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey – taking on Jonathan Pearce.

Bryce Mitchell claims Islam Makhachev, Alexander Volkanovski was “rigged”

Sharing his thoughts on February’s undisputed lightweight title fight between Makhachev and Volkanovski, outspoken grappler, Mitchell claimed the fight was most definitely rigged.

“That fight [Islam Makahchev vs. Alexander Volkanovski] was rigged as f*ck,” Bryce Mitchell said during an interview on Fanatics View. “But he [Makhachev] brings in all that money from the Middle East. When you’re bringing in that kind of oil money and all that Middle Eastern money, bro… Like, all the rich people in the world, they’re all from the Middle East.”

“I guess they just f*ckin’ paid the judges to – I don’t know,” Bryce Mitchell explained.

Fighting to a competitive, back-and-forth decision win over New South Wales favorite, Volkanovski in Perth, Australia – Makhachev managed to successfully defend his championship, however, Mitchell claims the featherweight champion should have landed a judging win.

“I know Alexander Volkanovski won a decision,” Bryce MItchell explained. “I don’t think nothing, I know he won and I know that sh*t was rigged, and I’m not f*cking stupid. You can’t tell me that sh*t wasn’t rigged. I’m not buying it.”

“You can pay them judges whatever you want to pay ‘em,” Bryce Mitchell said. “I know Alexander Volkanovski won that fight.”

Bryce Mitchell has retracted his recent plans to retire immediately following his UFC 282 loss.

Mitchell contemplated retirement after his first professional loss to Ilia Topuria in December. After the fight, Mitchell felt “regret” for his performance.

I just know I could have done better. I’m just in so much pain that I don’t think it’s worth it to keep going,” Mitchell said “I want to stop with MMA and I want to take every little bit of focus that I spend every day on MMA, I want to put it into something else.”

The 28-year-old spoke with ESPN’s Brett Okomoto about the immediate reaction to his submission loss last month. He says that he wasn’t 100%. On social media, he did reveal that he was dealing with the flu heading into the fight.

“When you’re in that state, you’ve got to realize you’re not completely normal, you’re not thinking rationally…I was really mad. I was being really hard on myself.”

Mitchell also said that if he didn’t think he could’ve done better then he’d retire but that’s not the case. He admitted that he was instantly tired when the fight started and believes that wasn’t his best performance.

I’ll be honest with you Brett… I swear on my life, if that’s the best I can do I would retire because that sh*t was terrible,” Mitchell said. “But I know I could do better and after thinking about it and knowing how much better I could’ve done. Yeah, I’ve got a different opinion on the fight.”

Bryce Mitchell Is Looking To Bounce Back From Defeat

Mitchell is confident that he can do better than he did last month and wants to prove that whenever he “runs out of money” in 2023.

“I am anxious to prove that I can do better. I’m not gonna lie to you. I’d do better right now. If we fought today, I’d do better than I did…whenever we fought.”

Going into UFC 282, Mitchell was 15-0 during his MMA career. He has 9 submission wins under his belt. In 2019, the Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt secured the second twister submission in UFC history.

UFC featherweight Bryce Mitchell suffered the first loss of his mixed martial arts career against Ilia Topuria this past weekend at UFC 282.

The 28-year-old posted a video on Twitter reacting to the loss along with a message to his fans.

“Hey I just want to let y’all know that I’m feeling just fine. I’m (back) home and I just want to thank y’all for all the love and support. And I definitely got to let you know that it really wasn’t me out there. You know, I had the flu the week before and you know I thought I’d just tough it out. And I didn’t feel good at all in there. I wasn’t myself and I trained a lot harder and could have performed a lot better.”

”You know I wish I never ever took the fight.  But I didn’t know it would mess me up that bad, so I thought I’d be able to hang in there for all three rounds.” [h/t BJPenn.com
