David Benavidez vs. Caleb Plant Betting Preview

Returning to the squared circle this weekend at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada – unbeaten super middleweight puncher, David Benavidez looks to successfully defend his interim WBC super middleweight crown for the first time in his second reign – taking on former IBF super middleweight best, Caleb Plant in ‘Sin City’

Boasting an impressive, undefeated 26-0 professional record, Phoenix, Arizona-born boxer, Benavidez – who first clinched super middleweight gold under the WBC banner back in 2017 with a split decision win over Ronald Gavril, took interim spoils back in May of last year on home soil with a knockout win over David Lemieux.

As for Plant, the 22-1 puncher, hailing from Ashland City, Tennessee, returned to the winner’s enclosure back for the first time in his naive professional boxing career back in October in Brooklyn, New York – stopping common-foe, Anthony Dirrell with a blistering ninth round knockout victory.

Dropping just one career loss, the 30-year-old orthodox puncher dropped a penultimate knockout loss against middleweight division kingpin, Canelo Alvarez in a blockbuster championship fight back in November 2021 in Nevada.

And ahead of their Sunday showdown at the historic MGM Grand, Benavidez, who enters the title fray as defending champion once more – enters the bout, currently, as a supreme betting favorite outright to return Plant to losing ways – sitting at -300 over on BetWay.

Despite dropping just a single career loss to middleweight icon, Alvarez, Plant is already fighting the bookies ahead of his monumental championship offing against Benavidez – with the Tennessee native placed as a +225 betting underdog.

A blistering knockout artist and puncher, Benavidez, 26, has racked up 23 knockout victories in just 10 years inside the professional squared circle.

Snatching a slew of recent stoppage successes, following a decision and subsequent rematch knockout win over the above-mentioned, Gavril – Benavidez has stopped the likes of J’Leon Love, Roamer Alexis, Angulo, as well as common-foe, Dirrell with strikes.

Hooking up gloves under the Showtime! pay-per-view banner, Benavidez can be wagered as quite a heavy favorite to stop Plant inside the 12 round distance this weekend in Las Vegas, with BetWay offering the ‘Copper State’ product as a -140 favorite to leave the ringside judges out of the equation on Sunday.

Racking up 13 career knockout victories, Plant is not currently considered all that likely to not just hand Benavidez his first career loss – but also, expected to fail in a bid to KO the Arizonian, with odds of +700 currently floated at the time of publication.

Taking out the veteran, Limeaux inside just three rounds and inside less than 10 minutes last year, Benavidez appears to be favored to stop Plant before the conclusion of the ninth round – with BetWay offering odds on the champion to force the issue before double-digit rounds at -900.

Placed as low as +400 to win on points against Benavidez over on BetWay – Plant’s most likely route to success comes via the judges it seems, with the 30-year-old sitting higher than the former throughout rounds one to 12 to force a stoppage in the action.

While Caleb Plant returned to the win column with a brutal knockout this past weekend, it was his post-fight celebration that has taken much of the attention. Dana White Bet Six Figures On Canelo Alvarez KO

Dana White Canelo

Dana White was caught in 4k watching Canelo Alvarez vs Caleb Plant in the middle of UFC 268, but now we know why.

White has had a ton of respect for Canelo, and the skills that he possesses. So much so in fact, that when UFC welterweight champ said that he wanted to box Canelo ahead of his title fight with Colby Covington at UFC 268, the UFC President said that there was essentially no way his guy was taking on the pound-for-pound best boxer in the world.

It seems that White had so much faith in Canelo’s ability to beat Plant that he was willing to put his money where his mouth is, and a lot of it. According to a betting slip that he posted to his Instagram Stories, before being re-uploaded to Twitter by Damon Martin, White made a massive bet to the tune of $100,000 on the champ to win by knockout, which he was able to do in the 11th round, netting White a profit of $41,666.

This explains why Dana White was seen watching the Canelo Alvarez fight on his screen, while sitting cage side at UFC 268, as Rose Namajunas vs Weili Zhang went down in front of him. While this six figure amount does not mean the same to the UFC President as it would for most people, that is still not a small amount to gamble on.

In any case, White makes a good point when he says that it would not make the most sense for Kamaru Usman to try fighting Canelo Alvarez in his next. While that payday would be huge for the welterweight champ, Canelo proved with his win over Caleb Plant, that his boxing technique, speed, and power are unmatched in the world of boxing, as it stands today.

Dana White On The Canelo-Plant Brawl: ‘You Couldn’t Be F*cking dumber”

Dana White has his own feelings on the Canelo Alvarez and Caleb Plant face-off that went down yesterday.

White is known for standing between fighters during the face-offs to make sure nothing like the brawl between Alvarez and Plant happens. Sometimes like the recent Ion Cutelaba instance, things do get out of hand, but never like it did yesterday. White had choice words for how their face-off was handled.

“I’m not surprised at ‘sh*t-Showtime’ those guys are great, they’re really good at what they do – from production, to press conferences, they’re f*cking awesome,” White said sarcastically during the Dana White’s Contender Series 40 post-fight news conference on Tuesday evening. “How long have you been in the business, that you would let two fighters go up to each other, face-to-face, without somebody there to try to (stop them). Then, when it breaks out, there’s like two women that are there between them before there’s a man anywhere near it,” White continued about the brawl. “You couldn’t be f*cking dumber than what they did today. Risk a massive fight with one of the biggest stars in the sport by not having the fighters safe.” (H/T MMAjunkie)

The most notable UFC press-conference that got out of hand, was the Jon Jones vs Daniel Cormier at the UFC 178 face-offs. That face-off, was just like the Alvarez-Plant face-off.

The scuffle between Alvarez and Plant did not leave either fighter badly injured. Rumors were swirling around that Caleb Plant had gotten scratched and bloodied during the fight. Plant’s manager Luis DeCubas Jr told ESPN that the cut under his eye was due to his sunglasses, not from Alvarez. The cut will also not affect the match and it is still a go.

Dana White has a point, since a scuffle like that could lead to a devastating injury that puts a much anticipated fight at risk.

Do you agree with Dana White’s statements?

Things got more physical than anyone anticipated during the first faceoff between Canelo Alvarez and Caleb Plant.

Canelo and Plant are scheduled to collide on Nov. 6. The bout will determine the undisputed super-middleweight champion. Canelo holds the WBC, WBA, WBO, and The Ring Super-Middleweight Titles. Plant is the IBF Champion.

During their first public staredown, Canelo shoved Plant. Plant responded by throwing a punch. Canelo ducked and nailed the IBF Champion, causing a cut under his eye.

See the madness for yourself.

There is already some concern over the status of the fight due to this incident. Many believe that Plant’s cut is the type that usually postpones fights. Of course, under normal circumstances, cuts such as that one occur during training.

It’s all speculation at this point, however. There is no word on what consequences Canelo could be facing for landing the punch or even Plant for throwing the first shot after being shoved.

MMA News will keep you posted on the fallout of this incident. We’ll be sure to bring you word on any potential fines or other consequences as well as whether or not the fight between Canelo Alvarez and Caleb Plant will have to be postponed.
