It looks like Calvin Kattar has his next fight booked.

Just a day after UFC Fight Island 6 where Brian Ortega virtually guaranteed his place as the next title challenger for Alexander Volkanovski’s featherweight crown, another title hopeful in Kattar seems to have gotten his own title eliminator fight.

Kattar’s team New England Cartel posted Sunday that there was big fight news coming soon to which Kattar responded with a shifty eyes emoji.

“Christmas coming a little early for the Cartel. Some fight news coming soon and it’s a big one! #ufc”

Kattar is coming off a unanimous decision win over Dan Ige in July which followed an impressive second-round knockout of Jeremy Stephens in May.

Given his activity in 2020, he felt he was deserving of a title shot. However, Volkanovski felt he needed one more win to get it. Considering the state of the division, it’s very possible that the “The Boston Finisher” has landed either a fight with former champion Max Holloway or a rematch with Zabit Magomedsharipov.

A win over any of those two fighters and it would definitely be hard to deny Kattar the next shot.

Who do you think Kattar is fighting next?

EA’s UFC4 just got its first major update since releasing back in August.

The team behind the game have made additions that were requested upon the games launch as well as moving fighters to their new or future weight classes within the game.

Former top-five Bantamweight Pedro Munhoz is now an available fighter in the game. Fans were vocal in calling to attention his lack of presence in the game when it released as it the title featured many unranked fighters but lacked some of the top athletes in their respective divisions.

Another ranked fighter this time in the Featherweight division, Calvin Kattar will be available to play in the game. Kattar is another fighter fans rallied for after he was not included in the games initial release.

The update also included a list of fighters who will now be usable in new weight classes. The most popular of these is the addition of Jon Jones at heavyweight. The former Light-Heavyweight champion announced his planned shift in division and so has been granted this move within the title.

While he has competed in the division for some time, Omari Akmedov will only now be playable as a Middleweight after originally only being playable as a Welterweight.

After making his divisional debut defeating Pedro Munhoz, Frankie Edgar is also now available to use as a Bantamweight within the game.

Alexander Gustafsson has also been made available at Heavyweight after his divisional debut, however, unfortunately, this did not go his way losing to Fabricio Werdum by submission in the first round.

EA has also included many aesthetic additions to the game such as updating many of the fighter’s tattoos to reflect how they currently appear.

On top of these additions, the game has had many controller tweaks and gameplay updates to fix errors and increase the performance and quality of gameplay.

Yair Rodriguez

Yair Rodriguez has picked up an ankle injury and has been forced to withdraw from his August 29 main event fight against fellow featherweight contender Zabit Magomedsharipov.

The news was first broke by Mexican outlet Milenio and later confirmed by ESPN’s Ariel Helwani who also told his social media followers Calvin Kattar has made himself available to fight Zabit on August 29, he wrote.

“Yair Rodriguez is out of the the Aug. 29 main event versus Zabit Magomedsharipov due to an ankle injury, Dana White confirmed fonight. Calvin Kattar, via his manager Tyson Chartier, has agreed to step in on short notice. No word yet on what the UFC plans on doing.”

“Just be to clear here, Kattar offered to step in. UFC hasn’t decided yet what they’ll do with Zabit.”

UFC president Dana White also confirmed Rodriguez is out during his post-fight press conference for the return of the Contender Series.

“He had a high ankle sprain and a fracture,” White said. “He’s out.” (Transcribed by MMA Junkie)

Rodrguez last fought at UFC Boston in October 2019. The 27-year-old picked up a unanimous decision win against long-time contender Jeremy Stephens. He holds high profile wins over the likes of Korean Zombie, BJ Penn, Andre Fili and Dan Hooker.

Magomedsharipov has announced himself as one of the best at 145lbs with wins over Calvin Kattar and Jeremey Stephens. His unorthodox style has excited fans during his UFC run and pushed the Russian towards the top of the division.

Kattar is clearly keen on another shot at Magomedsharipov after running him close when they first fought at UFC Moscow in November last year. The 32-year-old is riding hight after beating Dan Ige over five rounds. He’ll be confident he can do the same against Zabit who has shown signs of gas tank issues throughout his UFC run.

Should Calvin Kattar replace Yair Rodriguez and fight Zabit Magomedsharipov on August 29?

UFC Featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski recently talked about potential frontrunners for the next shot at his featherweight world title.

The champ recently sat down and spoke with Sky Sports Radio where he was asked about who could potentially be next in line for a title shot,

“Well, there’s a few. We got like probably four guys that are like all in the same boat, they’re all probably one win away from being the No. 1 contender. They’re all like just there but they just need to have that fight and everybody is going to be screaming their name. Now that I got the win, let the division play out, then hopefully by the end of the year they got that No. 1 contender,” Volkanovski said.

“But right now there’s a couple of frontrunners, maybe Zombie and Zabit, I’d say they’re probably the frontrunners. If they get a win they’ll be clear ahead of the No. 1 contenders and I look forward to taking them on.”

Volkanovski most recently barely edged Max Holloway by split decision a few weeks ago at UFC 251.

While The Korean Zombie is set to fight Brian Ortega and Magomedshairpov is supposed to fight Yair Rodriguez later this summer. Those are the four men who Volkanovski believes are next in line for his belt, as well as Calvin Kattar.

The featherweight title picture is very crowded and only time will tell before we see who emerges as the top contender.

Who do you think emerges at the next Featherweight title challenger? Korean Zombie, Ortega, Zabit, Rodriguez or Kattar?
