Giga Chikadze has issued a warning to the featherweight division after his lopsided loss to Calvin Kattar at UFC Vegas 46.

Chikadze (14-3 MMA) faced off in the headliner of the UFC event in Las Vegas, as he faced division rival, Kattar (23-5 MMA) in a full 25-minute slugfest, as both fighters landed a combined 272 significant strikes on each other.

The Georgian entered the bout with a nine-fight win streak, with his most recent victory coming against veteran Edson Barboza back in August 2021.

Whereas his opponent, ‘The Boston Finisher’ was coming back after a lengthy 12-month break following his historic beatdown from former featherweight champ Max ‘Blessed’ Holloway.

The inaugural UFC main event of the year exceeded its expectations after the back-and-forth encounter shaped an early candidate for ‘Fight of the Year’.

However, Chikadze still feels confident in his ability to reach UFC featherweight gold, as he expressed his feelings on a Facebook live after the fight:

“I f**ked up last night but it’s all good, it’s a journey and I’m learning from this,” Chikadze said. “Next time gonna come back so much stronger. I already feel bad for my future opponents. Trust me on that. And also, I feel like if I was to fight this guy 10 times, 9 times I would win.”

Whats next for Giga Chikaze following his recent loss?

While his loss was evidently convincing, it isn’t the end of the day or even a huge step misstep for the ‘Ninja’. The bout won Fight of the Night and had other fighters and fans across social media praising both the men for their effort.

Chikadze called out “cheap f**k”, Chang Sung Jung who reveled in his defeat at UFC Vegas 46. ‘The Korean Zombie’ is scheduled to face featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski in April. The 145lb is shaping up nicely in 2022 and Chikadze will surely be a player in the division when he returns to full fitness.

UFC President Dana White thinks the public counted out Calvin Kattar ahead of his main event bout against Giga Chikadze.

Kattar walked away with a unanimous decision win over Chikadze on Saturday night, clearing scorecards after a brawl against a fellow ranked featherweight. The win saw him emerge as the better striker, hurting Chikadze with a high volume of shots.

This impressive showing from Kattar came after a week where Chikadze was viewed by many as the expected winner. He was even in discussion to step in on short notice to replace Max Holloway in a title fight against Alexander Volkanovski.

White feels that people didn’t give Kattar enough of a chance before the fight. He discussed how we have seen Kattar’s toughness in his previous appearance and how he has proven himself before.

“It’s almost like everybody forgot about Calvin Kattar and [his fight against] Max Holloway. Everybody counted him out tonight. I thought that the spinning elbow he landed changed the fight. I think that first round wrestling tired them out,” said White, speaking at the post-fight press conference on Saturday.

“They just dug in and went to war … [Kattar] kept constant pressure on him. He stayed in his face. He kept him moving backwards. It looked like Giga was out of it halfway through the second round.”

White: Kattar’s Layoff Helped Him

The win on Saturday night was Kattar’s first appearance in nearly a year. He was fighting for the first time in 364 days, appearing for the first time since he was on the losing side of a dominant performance by Max Holloway.

White thought the extensive break for Kattar worked in his favor because of how his last fight went.

“I think after that fight he had with Max [Holloway], you gotta take a year off. I think you have to … He absolutely, positively needed to take that time off,” said White.

Giga Chikadze Speaks Out Following UFC Vegas 46: ‘F*ck You Korean Zombie’

Giga Chikadze

Giga Chikadze was extremely professional and respectful following the beatdown he received from Calvin Kattar in the UFC’s first main event of the year. However, the Georgian didn’t keep that same energy when it came to addressing one man.

Last night UFC fans saw Chikadze’s dominant run of nine straight victories come to an end when he suffered a vicious loss to the always entertaining Calvin Kattar. Kattar, who ironically was coming of a brutal loss himself precisely one year ago to Max Holloway, did the same to Chikadze, leaving him cut open and a bloodied mess.

Leading into the fight, If victorious against Kattar, Chikadze was eyeing a fight with current featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski after Max Holloway’s withdrawal from injury, which aggravated “Ninja” even more at the fact Jung was dealt the opportunity to fight for gold, and not him. The setback Chikadze suffered rules the thirty-three-year-old out of title talks for now.

Chikadze wasn’t the happiest of men once “The Korean Zombie” was announced as the next challenger for Alexander Volkanovski and took some sly digs calling him “easy task” for the champion. As expected, Jung fired back on Twitter following Chikadze’s performance.

The Korean Zombie Gives His Thoughts on Giga Chikadze’s Performance

Chikadze humbly accepted the defeat showcasing his respect for Calvin Kattar after posing in a photo with one another at the hospital after going to war. Chikadze then took to his Instagram story to give his view on the fight. The Kings MMA fighter seemed in good spirits, promising to come back stronger, but bit back at Jung’s tweet.

“Thank you my real supporters!I love you all & I owe you speed come back,” Chikadze wrote. Lot of fake people around, but its okay! Also fuck you Korean Zombie! Be happy with someone’s lose you cheap fuck @koreanzombiemma”

After such a one-sided defeat and the damage Chikadze absorbed, I think it’s fair to say it’ll be a minute until we see him back in the Octagon. In the meantime, it allows the featherweight championship fight between Volkanovksi and Jung to play out.

Alexander Volkanovski, Calvin Kattar, Max Holloway

UFC featherweight legends Alexander Volkanovski and Max Holloway were just a few of the many MMA personalities who went wild during Calvin Kattar’s win over Giga Chikadze at UFC Vegas 46.

Kattar, who came into UFC Vegas 46 as the underdog to the surging Chikadze, put on arguably the best performance of his career in Las Vegas. He overwhelmed and pressured Chikadze from the opening minutes of the fight and turned the Georgian prospect’s face into a bloody mess.

After five rounds of back-and-forth war, Kattar earned the unanimous decision win and a clean sweep on the judges’ scorecards.

With the victory over Chikadze, Kattar has now won three of his last four and rebounded off of a lopsided defeat to Holloway last year. Just minutes after the fight, Volkanovski and Holloway took to Twitter to congratulate Kattar on his victory.

Alexander Volkanovski, Max Holloway Gave Props To Calvin Kattar After Dominant Win Over Giga Chikadze

Holloway was supposed to face Volkanovski in a trilogy for the featherweight title but pulled out due to an injury. Chikadze was among the names who offered to step up on short notice, but he ended up getting passed up for Chan Sung Jung.

Kattar went on to eliminate the possibility of Chikadze fighting for the title next with an impressive performance to start the new year. Many believe that it was only a matter of time until Chikadze fought for the belt, but he’ll now have to wait a bit longer.

Kattar could face the Volkanovski/Jung winner next, depending on how long Holloway will be sidelined with his injury. Kattar could also potentially fight either Brian Ortega or Yair Rodriguez next in the meantime.

Regardless, Kattar’s stock has risen from this latest win, and he appears to be in the best shape of his career following his most disappointing loss last year.

Talk about a triumphant return for Massachusetts striker, Calvin Kattar. Enduring a brutal beating at the hands of former featherweight champion, Max Holloway just a year ago — the #5 ranked contender returned to the Octagon tonight with a vengeance, bloodying, slicing, and battering the promotional-perfect, Giga Chikadze over five gruelling rounds to land his own unanimous decision (50-45, 50-45, 50-44) win at UFC Vegas 46.

Managing to capitalize on a slip from Chikadze who had previously landed some blistering kicks in the opening round, Kattar stole the first frame on all three judge’s scorecards with a well-timed takedown, in tandem with some top control.

From rounds two until five, however, the New England Cartel standout established and then further built up a considerable lead over his Kings MMA featherweight counterpart, slicing and bloodying with countless step-in and upward elbows.

Chikadze, hugely fatigued beyond the second round, attempted to fight back, but with constant pressure on the ticket from Kattar, the Tbilisi native faltered for the first time in his eight-fight UFC tenure, as The Bay State product returned to the winner’s enclosure in emphatic fashion.

Below, catch the highlights from Calvin Kattar’s bludgeoning of Giga Chikadze at UFC Vegas 46
