Patrick Cote winIt’s been a road of highs and lows for Canadian middleweight Patrick ‘The Predator’ Côté (14-7), having gone from battling for the UFC’s 185 lb title, to being dropped from the top promotion after three straight losses.

Côté is hoping to string together some wins in order to catch the UFC’s eye once more, in the hopes that they will bring him back into the fold. ‘The Predator’ has already scored his first victory this past April by defeating former “TUF 3″ fighter Kalib Starnes at a Ringside MMA 10 event last April. Now Côté looks for his second straight win this Saturday, as he faces former UFC light heavyweight Todd Brown at a Ringside MMA 11 event, for that promotions middleweight title.

Côté recently spoke to MMAWeekly.com about winning for the first time in three years, and his hopes of returning to the worlds top promotion.

“It’s good to be back on the winning road. A lot pressure off of my shoulders, and now I’m sure Saturday night I’m going to be looser and I’m going to let my hands go,” Cote said. “It’s going to be better for me. I will think less about only winning. I’m just going to think about this performance and knock him out.”

“The only power I have is to win fights and you never know what’s going to happen after. If I don’t win fights, (the UFC) will never call me back. It’s the only power I have, the only control I have, is to go and give (the UFC) a reason to bring me back.”

The Canadian based Colloseo Championship Fighting promotion appears to have it’s upcoming July CCF Bushido card almost complete, with just one fighter left without an opponent according to MMA-Japan.com.

What makes the Edmonton, Alberta based promotion of interest is the fact that they will be using the PrideFC rules for this July event. Some rules include head stomps and kicks to a downed opponent, but does not allow the use of elbows.

The CCF promotion has sanctioned the event through the International Combative Sports Association (ICSA), which is not associated with the Association of Boxing Commissions (ABC) who follow the Unified Rules of mixed martial arts.

The event is set to take place on July 23, 2011 at the Eagle River Casino and Travel Plaza, in Whitecourt, Alberta, Canada, which is just outside of the city of Edmonton.

Headlining the event is a heavyweight bout between UFC vet Gilbert ‘The Hurricane’ Yvel vs. KOTC vet, and multiple promotion champ, Tony ‘Kryptonite’ Lopez. Also featured in the co-main event is a lightweight bout between former MFC champ Antonio ‘Mandingo’ McKee who meets (unconfirmed) CCF champ Jorge Filo Brito.

Brian CobbCobb perfect foil for Fickett
Rival submission specialists to battle in MFC 30 co-main event

Press Release – May 26, 2011: The Maximum Fighting Championship has signed world-ranked lightweight Brian “The Bandit” Cobb to a multi-fight contract that will include his debut bout in the main event at MFC 30: Up Close & Personal.

Cobb (18-6) will meet top title contender Drew “Night Rider” Fickett (41-13) in a three-round, non-title affair on Friday, June 10 at the Mayfield Conference Centre in Edmonton, Alberta. HDNet Fights will air the event live, including the evening’s co-main event of Pete “The Secret Weapon” Spratt against “The Irish Hand Grenade” Marcus Davis, beginning at 10 p.m. ET/8 p.m. MT/7 p.m. PT (check local listings for channel designation).

“I am very excited about this matchup,” said Mark Pavelich, MFC Owner/President. “Brian Cobb (http://www.fightmatrix.com/fighter-search/?fName=brian+cobb) is someone who has been on our radar for some time, and I think this is the perfect time to bring him in.

“He’s ranked in the top 20 in the world, which is outstanding considering the depth of talent in the lightweight division. I believe he and Drew Fickett will put on a tremendous showcase of their skills which will make for a dynamic and entertaining fight. Having two extremely tactical fighters like Cobb and Fickett apply their trade in a co-main event with such devastating as Spratt and Davis – that’s the best of both worlds for true mixed martial arts fans.”

A submission specialist with 12 victories coming by way of tapout, Cobb enters the MFC ring for the first riding a three-fight winning streak. The 31-year-old Bakersfield, California, product holds a notable career win over Diego Saraiva, defeated Kazunori Yokota in Japan last fall, and holds three wins in three bouts against former rival John Reedy – the only losses in Reedy’s career.

Along with his jiu-jitsu game, Cobb is an accomplished wrestler with a decorated amateur career. A former high school All-American, Cobb was an NCAA Division I national qualifier and was a Pac-10 finalist while competing for Cal State University-Bakersfield.

Fickett, who fights out of Tucson, Arizona, will make his long-awaited return to the Maximum Fighting Championship following his scintillating performance over Matt Veach at MFC 28. The gifted submission specialist carries a five-fight winning streak into his matchup against Cobb, and has notable career wins over former MFC title challenger Derrick Noble, Josh Koscheck, Josh Neer, and Kenny Florian.
