rogers centre torontoPress Release – Toronto, Ontario, Canada – The Ultimate Fighting Championship® announced today that tickets for UFC® 129: ST-PIERRE vs. SHIELDS at Rogers Centre in Toronto on April 30 sold out minutes after being made available to the public. Rogers Centre was originally configured for 42,000 seats, but due to overwhelming demand, UFC and Rogers Centre officials reconfigured the venue to accommodate 55,000.

UFC® 129: ST-PIERRE vs. SHIELDS, which is presented by TapouT®, is the first major mixed martial arts event to ever be held in Ontario. The event doubles the largest gate and attendance records in UFC history. The previous gate record for a UFC event was $5.4 million, which was set on Saturday, Dec. 30, 2006 at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas for UFC 66: LIDDELL vs. ORTIZ 2. UFC 124: ST-PIERRE vs. KOSCHECK 2, held at the Bell Centre in Montreal on Dec. 11, 2010, previously held the attendance record with over 23,000 fans.

With two UFC records already shattered, UFC 129 is also the largest single-day event gate in the history of Rogers Centre, which has played home to some of the world’s top entertainment and sporting events.

“UFC continues to set new milestones,” UFC President Dana White said. “We’ve sold 55,000 tickets in our first stadium event in Toronto and we continue to take the UFC to the next level.”

“Based on the lightning quick sell-out, there is no doubt that UFC’s fan base is extremely passionate”, said Silvio D’Addario, VP Events, Rogers Centre. “We’ve worked closely with UFC to configure our venue to provide the best fan experience possible and we look forward to hosting this historic event.”

While UFC 129 is sold out, tickets for the UFC® Fan Expo at the Direct Energy Centre in Toronto on April 29-30 are still available at www.ufcfanexpo.com. Featuring the largest collection of UFC® fighters ever to appear in one location, exciting special events, interactive Q&A sessions, meet and greets, training and development sessions, the Octagon®, and much more, the UFC Fan Expo is a can’t-miss event for UFC fans.

Demarce replaces Johnson in fast-paced lightweight tussle at MFC 28

Press Release – When Curtis Demarce signed his new multi-fight deal with the Maximum Fighting Championship, he hoped he would soon get an opportunity to face one of the combatants in the featured matchup of Kajan Johnson vs. Richie Whitson slated for MFC 28.

Demarce’s wish came true faster than expected as he draws in as an injury replacement. In what could be tabbed as an “All-Evil” encounter, “The Demon” will now face “Hell Boy” Whitson on the card set for Friday, Feb. 25 at the River Cree Resort and Casino, just outside Edmonton, Alberta.

Johnson, the popular Vancouver, B.C., product, has been sidelined by a separated shoulder, leaving the door open for Demarce (10-7), who puts his seven-fight winning streak on the line against Whitson.

Whitson (10-1) will be carrying his own four-fight streak into the bout as the Temecula, California, product makes his organizational debut.

Demarce made his debut under the MFC banner last September, and the 22-year-old from Brandon, Manitoba, turned in the best performance of his career. Demarce secured the win over Tyson Steele with a second-round triangle choke, earning himself the runner-up spot on the list of the MFC’s 2010 Submissions of the Year. Six of Demarce’s career wins have come via submission.

Tickets for MFC 28: Supremacy are going fast and are available only by calling the MFC Ticket Hotline at (780) 504-2024.

With UFC middleweight champ Anderson Silva’s win over Vitor Belfort this past weekend promotion President Dana White has come out saying that he plans on making a GSP vs. Silva ‘Super-fight’ happen later this year, barring a win by the Canadian over Shields in April.

In a recent interview with CP24 Breakfast (click the link for the video interview) on Tuesday morning, a local media outlet in Toronto, St-Pierre and fellow Canadian Mark Hominick were in studio to talk about UFC 129 and their upcoming fights.

St-Pierre was asked for his thoughts on a potential fight with Silva and offered this as a response.

“Everyone talks about it for a long time even in my last fight before (against Josh Koscheck), but the truth is it is a big distraction to me and it would be foolish for me to think past Jake Shields cause Jake Shields is the most dangerous guy right now. I need to focus 100% on Jake Shields and the future I don’t know what will happen but right now I need to take care of business with Jake Shields. I am going to have my hands full with him.”
