July 9’s monumental UFC 200 event from Las Vegas received two huge fights last night (March 30, 2016).

It was announced that Nate Diaz vs. Conor McGregor II will serve as the main event, while former 145-pound king Jose Aldo will meet top contender and former lightweight champion Frankie Edgar for the interim featherweight title.

Despite the magnitude of those two fights alone, the card obviously still needs some filling out, and UFC president Dana White recently said that fans should expect to see a few women’s bouts tossed in:

“You should expect a couple. There will be a couple women’s fights at UFC 200,” White said on “SportsCenter.” “Actually, two or three maybe.”

As far as female fights go, perhaps the largest involve newly minted 135-pound title holder Miesha “Cup Cake” Tate.

Tate was able to pull off a spectacular rear naked choke victory over former champion Holly Holm earlier this month at March 5’s UFC 196.

That outcome immediately set up an intriguing Tate vs. Holm rematch, but it’s widely assumed that “Cup Cake” will next defend her title in a trilogy bout with former dominant champion Ronda Rousey.

It’s currently unclear when Rousey is aiming to return after suffering a brutal knockout loss to Holm last November, but either of these bouts would be massive.

Will Tate be competing at UFC 200, however? White left it open as a possibility:

“Could be,” White said with a laugh.

Former title challenger Cat Zingano recently hinted at an ‘epic’ summer return fight as well, and Cris “Cyborg” Justino could potentially make a quick turnaround given that her long awaited Octagon debut at May 14’s UFC 198 goes as planned.

Which female fighters would you like to see at UFC 200?

Cat Zingano Hints At ‘Epic’ Summer Return

No. 3-ranked former title challenger “Alpha” Cat Zingano has seemed to have been lost in the shuffle as of late.

The ever changing women’s bantamweight division has been in a state of madness as of late, but Zingano’s name hasn’t been brought up, as the 33 year old has been out of action since a February 2015 loss to then champion “Rowdy” Ronda Rousey.

Apparently Zingano is gearing up for her return, however, recently saying in an interview that she would be making her comeback this summer. While she couldn’t reveal the specifics regarding her opponent, “Alpha” did claim that it would be ‘epic’:

“I’m not looking past this opponent – this is a very, very valid opponent, and it’s going to be an exciting fight,” Zingano told AXS TV’s Inside MMA. “And I’m super stoked for what you guys get to see. I can’t be the one to break the news. But I’ll just tell you it’s going to be epic, and it’s going to be the beginning of the summer.”

As far as the long layoff goes, Zingano admitted that she simply needed some time to regroup both mentally, as well as physically. Now rejuvenated and revitalized, she feels as if she’s currently at her best:

“I had some pretty big bumps bruises I needed to take care of, as far as physically,” Zingano said. “And just on the personal note, I’m doing all of this for me and my son, and that gives me a little more responsibility than any of these people have to deal with. I worked a lot on just the mental aspect of it. I took a trip to Thailand. I visited a bunch of different gyms that are places that I’ve always wanted to train, and get technique and education from people that I really look up to. I feel like I’ve improved 110 percent and I’m ready to go out there and showcase it.”

While the UFC has shown interest in giving “Alpha” a tune up fight, Zingano has her eyes set on a bout with reigning champion Miesha Tate, a fighter she was victorious over back in 2013:

“Being that I’ve had a year off, they really want me to come back and have a tune-up fight,” Zingano said. “The fight that I want the most, clearly, is Miesha. Seeing her win that fight (against Holm), and in the fashion she won that fight, definitely put a fire in my spirit to want to get back out there and fight her. When I blew my knee, I had just beaten Miesha, and Miesha off a loss to me was still handed my title shot. So I don’t really think the logistics of coming off a loss, or this or that, especially in this case, should really be stood by. But the UFC is going to do what they’re going to do. Obviously, that’s the fight I want.”

Who would you like to see Zingano square off with in the coming months?

Putting together “rumors” from posts on social media can be dangerous, but also fun in the world of MMA.

Currently, one of those rumors consists of a potential UFC 198 women’s contest between Invicta FC champion Cris “Cyborg” Justino and former UFC title contender Cat Zingano.

The event takes place in Brazil on May 14 and will go down inside a soccer stadium. Fabricio Werdum is set to defend his heavyweight title against Stipe Miocic that evening.

Cyborg (15-1) is coming off four consecutive finishes for Invicta FC, including a January knockout of Daria Ibragiomva. However, her attempts to cut to bantamweight have been unsuccessful, leaving her stuck outside the Octagon.

Zingano (9-1) has not fought since an early 2015 defeat to then-UFC champion Ronda Rousey. However, she has been posting on Twitter numerous comments making a return to action seem imminent.

Stay tuned to MMANews.com for the latest news regarding this possible fight.

That right there is a one-time UFC female bantamweight title contender Cat Zingano looking rather ripped and cut on social media.

Zingano, 33 years old, has not fought since a 2015 loss to then-champion Ronda Rousey snapped her nine-fight win streak.

“Alpha,” though, appears ready to fight again. Injuries have limited her to just a single fight a year since 2010 when she competed three times, including a win over current Invicta FC champion Barb Honchak.

And here is another of Zingano showing off her ever-improving body:

This week, the mixed martial arts (MMA) community was dealt the shocking revelation that former UFC women’s bantamweight Ronda Rousey actually considered suicide following her devastating knockout loss to Holly Holm at UFC 193 when the ultra-popular “Rowdy” revealed her formerly frail state in an emotional interview on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show.”

There were understandably a mixed bag of reactions to the news, with some of her fans exhibiting compassion and understanding while others showed a cold and cruel lack of remorse in suggesting Rousey was only doing it for attention, and the MMA media justifiably wondered if she is truly ready to step back into the Octagon for the title rematch that is tentatively talked about for late this year.

Either way, it was tough for Rousey to find too much sympathy as a millionaire movie actress whether she has the belt or not, and prominent MMA figures like Holm and former UFC heavyweight champ Brock Lesnar spoke out to state that while they felt for Rousey, they didn’t necessarily feel that sorry for her.

It’s no doubt a shall we say, different, point of view from a once-dominant champion who, only four months ago was considered unstoppable and a candidate to retire undefeated as arguably the best fighter in UFC history. Now that that’s gone, however, all of the dynamics might suggest that Rousey won’t win the title again, and her mental state could certainly have a lot to do with that. Let’s take a look at the largest reasons why Rousey won’t regain her title.

WTF?! Quote of the Day: Cat Zingano “Didn’t Expect” That Ronda Rousey Would “Go for Her Arm” at UFC 184

(Yeah, I actually prefer this analysis.)

With each successive Ronda Rousey performance, it becomes increasingly difficult to picture any future opponent of hers lasting over a minute, let alone a round, with the “Rowdy” one. She outgrapples wrestlers, pancakes strikers, and submits everyone in between without breaking a sweat, and it’s been like this her entire career — nine of the woman’s twelve professional fights can be captured in a single gif, for Christ’s sake.

Enter Cat Zingano, a hulking physical specimen and tough-as-nails fighter that many of us believed would be the one to push Rousey further than anyone before when they collided at UFC 184. Unfortunately for us (and Zingano), she actually wound up on the wrong side of the shortest title fight in UFC history: a 14-second armbar defeat.

Personally, I chalked the loss up to Zingano simply being overwhelmed by the moment and throwing any strategy she had planned out the door. In an interview with ESPN published yesterday, however, “Alpha” made the mind-blowing revelation that her performance was only hindered by the fact that she didn’t expect Ronda Rousey — Judo master, nine-wins-by-armbar Ronda Rousey — to go for her arm.

I stand by my decision. Throughout the week, every time I saw Ronda we would shake hands and she would say, ‘Come on, let’s do this. Let’s put on an epic fight.’ I was thinking, ‘I don’t want to talk to her. I don’t want to be friends with her. At some point, I’m planning on being on top of this girl and I don’t want to care what I’m doing to her.’

She kept saying things like that so I said, ‘OK, let’s do this.’ What better way to put on an epic fight than a flying knee? I expected us to continue to fight. I didn’t realize we were going to do a jiu-jitsu match where I’m flying at her and all of a sudden she’s going for my arm again. I guess that’s one disappointment I had. If I had known she was going to be going for my arms, I would have gone about it differently. I agreed to her kind of fight instead of my kind of fight, and that won’t happen again.

Well, that is just….wow.

Look, I have the utmost respect for what Ms. Zingano has achieved thus far in her MMA career — especially in light of the absolute hell she has gone through over the past couple years — but those words that she spoke out of her mouthhole are bonkers. Absolutely bonkers. If Zingano is to be believed, she not only:

1.) Let her opponent’s request dictate how she approached the fight, but

2.) Forgot that Jiu-Jitsu is one of the many disciplines of MMA, and

3.) Didn’t expect a lifelong armbar specialist to go for an armbar when presented with a golden opportunity.

I don’t even know what to say to that. Fighting Ronda Rousey without expecting the armbar is like fighting Cody McKenzie and not expecting the guillotine and/or getting a paper cut from the tags still hanging off his basketball shorts.

And to think, this is only the *second* most insane thing that an opponent of Rousey’s has said this week.
