French kickboxing phenom Cedric Doumbe has signed with the Professional Fighters League after months of speculation that the two-time GLORY Kickboxing champion would end up with the UFC.

Making his combat sports debut in 2013, Doumbe amassed an impressive 75-7 record in the world of kickboxing. During that run, ‘Le Meilleur’ established himself as one of the best, capturing the WKA world championship in the 75kg division before becoming a two-time GLORY welterweight world champion.

In 2021, Cedric Doumbe traded in his 10oz gloves for 4oz ones, transitioning to mixed martial arts. Thus far, Doumbe has remained undefeated in MMA, scoring four-straight wins by way of knockout under the Superkombat and MMA Grand Prix banners. With the UFC seeing a potential second coming of former middleweight champion Alex Pereira, the company was expected to make a strong play for the Cameroonian. The promotion even had him booked for a debut at UFC Paris against Darian Weeks, but a unique rule by the French MMA Federation (FMMAF) squashed the bout.

In an interesting twist, Doumbe opted to sign with the PFL. The promotion announced his signing and expected debut date on Wednesday. Taking to YouTube, ‘Le Meilleur’ revealed that he will be making more than three times the amount that the UFC offered by signing with the PFL.

Cedric Doumbe Reveals Details of UFC Contract Offer

According to Cedric Doumbe, the UFC offered him $20,000 per fight to show with a $20,000 win bonus, maxing him out at $40,000 per fight. While much better than the promotion’s starter contracts that typically offer $12,000 to show and $12,000 to win, the PFL came correct with an offer of $140,000 per fight guaranteed. It was a no-brainer for Doumbe.

“Cedric Doumbe is one of the greatest athletes in the world and a tremendous addition to the Professional Fighters League global roster,” a statement from PFL president Ray Sefo said regarding the signing. “Cedric dominated the sport of kickboxing and is poised to do the same in MMA.

“He is one of the most talented fighters in the world and will make an immediate impact here in the PFL,” Sefo concluded.

Already a massive star in France with half a million followers on Instagram, Cedric Doumbe could bring a considerable amount of attention to the PFL, particularly as the promotion looks to establish its product in Europe. ‘Le Meilleur’ will make his PFL debut on June 23.

Cedric Doumbe sends cryptic message to Israel Adesanya after UFC 287 win

The world was watching when Israel Adesanya defeated Alex Pereira at UFC 287, and so was Cedric Doumbe. The GLORY kickboxing phenom has been slated to make a run for the upper echelon of the MMA world, and it seems his eyes are locked on target to the elusive gold that is the UFC middleweight championship.

Adesanya and Pereira gave the fans a war at UFC 287. The two had battled three times previously, with ‘Poatan’ defeating ‘The Last Stylebender’ each time. At UFC 287, however, things would end quite differently.

With his back to the cage getting rocked by vicious hooks to the body and head, Adesanya would suddenly lash out with a series of right hands that would send Pereira’s consciousness to a different world.

It was a momentous occasion. Adesanya had finally defeated a seemingly unbeatable foe, and the crowd and fans across the world rejoiced. However, a GLORY kickboxing phenom was watching, and if the rumors are true: he’s coming for Adesanya’s throne…

Cedric Doumbe rumored to be targeting transition to MMA, sends intriguing message to Israel Adesanya after UFC 287 knockout

Holding a stunning 12-3 record in one of the world’s most prestigious kickboxing organizations, Cedric Doumbe isn’t a man to take lightly. Holding the GLORY kickboxing welterweight championship, he’s not only defended it but defended it a multitude of times.

The rumors that he’s looking to transition to MMA aren’t even really rumors, per se. In fact, Cedric Doumbe has already competed in MMA. Not only that, but he currently stands at 3-0 and already had the offer to fight for the UFC with a fight scheduled and everything. Now, the fight would end up being canceled, but the opportunity was there.

With the success of Alex Pereira, Israel Adesanya and the many that have come before them, one thing that has been established is that elite kickboxers do have a potential home in MMA. While grappling can take years, if not decades, to master: the art of defending a takedown is often aided by the tall and lanky build that most kickboxers tend to possess. Not only that, but their prowess on the feet often results in them leading the dance anyways. It’s known that wrestling is extremely hard to do when backing up, and with the forward pressure and confidence the elite kickboxers possess, they’re mostly not easy victims when it comes to the takedown.

This is all theoretical, of course, but if Cedric Doumbe were to join any division looking to attain a championship, then the middleweight division would be supremely ideal to try and tackle that goal.

As for the cryptic message he sent Adesanya, it was as simple as this:

Cedric Doumbe is watching, and if you’re in the know, you know what he’s insinuating with that simple emoticon. As for when and where Doumbe will make his long-awaited UFC appearance, this is yet to be disclosed. But rest easy, as it is likely to happen and may even take place this year.

Former Glory kickboxing champion Cedric Doumbe is off to a great start in his young MMA career, earning a first-round finish over Arbi Emiev in his debut with Superkombat Universe on Monday.

Doumbe announced his transition from kickboxing to MMA earlier this year, and it excited the fans who have long wanted to see how he would match up with MMA veterans. Doumbe provided them with a profound answer and a first-round TKO, showcasing diversity on the feet and overwhelming Emiev.

Check out the incredible knockout below.

Cedric Doumbe’s transition to MMA from kickboxing is off to a great start

Doumbe earned the Glory Kickboxing welterweight championship twice in his career in the ring, with five title defenses. He competed against the likes of Brad Riddell and Alan Scheinson over his illustrious career and is widely regarded as one of the best kickboxers ever.

His trilogy with Murthel Groenhart is widely regarded as one of the best trilogies in kickboxing history, as Doumbe knocked out Groenhart at Glory 77 in the rubber match. Shortly after, he announced his intentions to sign with an MMA promotion and begin a new chapter of his combat sports career.

Doumbe joins former Glory colleague Alex Pereira with their transitions to MMA. The UFC signed Pereira earlier this year to their middleweight division and is the only man to knock out Israel Adesanya.

Doumbe is yet another big name to fight out of Cameroon, joining UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou.

At just 29 years old, there’s no telling just how far Doumbe could go in his MMA career. Fans have clamored for the UFC to sign him, but it appears the promotion is waiting for him to gain more experience before that happens.

Regardless, expect big things from Doumbe going forward, with some of the most technical striking in the world.
