Mark Coleman, the UFC’s first-ever heavyweight world champion, is coming out of retirement at the age of 58 for a celebrity boxing match later this year.

Per a report from MMA Mania, ‘The Hammer’ has signed on the dotted line with Celebrity Boxing to make his squared circle debut at an event on October 14. No other details have been announced, but the promotion is seeking a celebrity-type opponent for the contest which will consist of three two-minute rounds. The event is scheduled to air on Fite TV.

In April, Mark Coleman teased a potential return to combat sports after suggesting he had accepted a slap-fighting matchup with fellow former UFC heavyweight champion Tim Sylvia. However, ‘The Maine-iac’ quickly distanced himself from the rumored bout, revealing that he had no interest in going toe-to-toe with ‘The Hammer’ under the SlapFIGHT banner.

“Lol why you got to let people think we are slapping each other man? That is not happening, you are a good buddy man. And you are a excellent catcher. Let’s keep it that way,” Sylvia posted to social media in response to the rumors.

With his slap-fighting dreams dashed, Mark Coleman will turn his attention to the squared circle.

Looking Back at Mark Coleman’s Legendary Career

Mark Coleman, a former NCAA Division I wrestling champion made his mixed martial arts debut at UFC 10 in 1996. ‘The Hammer’ would go on to win back-to-back tournaments en route to becoming the promotion’s first heavyweight champion, defeating Dan Severn at UFC 12. Coleman departed the promotion in 1999 and headed for Japan, competing under the PRIDE FC banner for the next seven years.

Colman made his return to the UFC in 2009 and dropped two of his last three fights before taking his gloves off for the final time.

‘The Hammer’ also dabbled in the world of sports entertainment, making appearances for New Japan Pro Wrestling and All Japan Pro Wrestling in the early 2000s. Coleman was inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame in 2008.

Sad Knockout of the Day: Gabe Ruediger Destroyed by Jason Ellis in Celebrity Boxing Match

When a delusional wannabe-fighter like Jose Canseco gets wrecked in a celebrity boxing match, it comes as no surprise to anybody. But when it happens to an actual former UFC fighter like Gabe Ruediger? I mean, how do you explain that? Sure, Gabe wasn’t exactly a successful UFC fighter — and radio host/author/adventurer Jason Ellis is a tough S.O.B. who knows how to throw them hands — but when the two met in a boxing exhibition at Ellismania 8 in Las Vegas last month, you’d assume that Ruediger would be the favorite. Instead, he got knocked out cold at the end of the round two. The fact that Gabe wore a t-shirt into the ring suggests that he might not have taken his training camp as seriously as he should have.

And yes, that’s Jason “Mayhem” Miller shouting on the mic; a few weeks later, he would be begging Dana White to kill himself. If only we could have held onto that moment, when Miller seemed happy, a packed arena was cheering Gabe Ruediger’s latest sad defeat, and everything seemed right with the world.

Jose Canseco’s Celebrity Boxing Career Takes Another Sad Turn; Will Face Tareq Salahi on November 5th

(Props: battlecambrah)

Jose Canceso‘s record as a celebrity boxer currently sits at 1-2-1, including a knockout loss to Vai Sikahema, a decision loss to a 60-year-old man, a tough draw against Danny Partridge, and a win (finally) against Todd Poulton, self-described as “The Heavyweight Champion of OCD.”

We’d say that the former baseball star’s next match offers him a shot at redemption, but considering his opponent, he’ll look like a loser even if he wins it. Canseco is booked to appear at a Celebrity Fight Night event on November 5th against Tareq Salahi, best known as the “White House party crasher” whose wife Michaele is a total whore.

During a recent face-off in Beverly Hills, Salahi confronted the crowd with a five-year-old photo of Canseco with Michaele, which skeevy promoter Alki David presented to the media in the front row with obvious glee. “I’m fighting for anybody who’s against cheating, be in my corner, and I’m gonna take Jose down,” Salahi said.

When it came for the traditional fists-up photo-op, Salahi was still harping on the photo thing, and the two had to be separated. The moment seemed obviously staged, and you have to feel embarrassed for everybody involved. Salahi is seriously trying to ride his fame as the Ultimate Cuckold? Canseco is reduced to beating up guys like that for a paycheck? Actually, I don’t feel bad for Alki David; his life seems pretty rad.

The November 5th Celebrity Fight Night card will also feature three cast-members from the last season of Celebrity Rehab. (Keep up the great work, Dr. Drew.) The lineup is below. You can watch the action live on pay-per-view at FilmOn.

Jose Canseco vs. Tareq Salahi

Michael Lohan vs. Kato Kaelin
