Former Strikeforce and UFC standout Jason ‘Mayhem’ Miller has once again found himself on the wrong side of the law.

Though he never captured a title in any of the major promotions he competed for, ‘Mayhem’ Miller was a favorite among fans for his entertaining style and well-rounded skill set. But in more recent years, Miller has become known for his frequent run-ins with the law. Per a report from TMZ, ‘Mayhem’ was taken into custody following an altercation on Aug. 29 at the Sunset Marquis in West Hollywood.

The report states that a fan inside the club attempted to approach Miller. A verbal altercation quickly developed, leading Miller to allegedly put the victim in a choke hold until security at the venue intervened. ‘Mayhem’ fled the club before police arrived that evening, but was arrested the next day when he returned.

Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department records confirm that the former Ultimate Fighter coach was arrested and booked on a misdemeanor charge on August 30 in West Hollywood.

‘Mayhem’ Miller’s Extensive Arrest History

Miller has had repeated run-ins with the law over the last several years. In 2012, ‘Mayhem’ was arrested and charged with trespassing and burglary. Miller reportedly broke into a church in Mission Viejo, California, and destroyed multiple items including books, CDs, and pictures. He discharged a fire extinguisher that left a residue trail to the second floor where police found him naked while sleeping on a couch.

He was arrested once again in 2014 on felony domestic violence following a five-hour-long standoff with a SWAT team outside his Orange County, California home.

Over the next seven years, Miller would be arrested seven times for a plethora of infractions, including driving under the influence, burglary, vandalism, domestic violence, assault and battery, and grand theft auto.

In 2021, Miller was sentenced to one year in prison for vandalism and attempted grand theft, along with felony domestic violence and resisting arrest charges in 2021. He remained in prison from June 2022 to May 2023.

Former UFC middleweight champion, Michael Bisping has recalled his first run-in with fellow Ultimate Fighter tournament victor, Nate Diaz ahead of his December 2011 clash with Jason Miller – where the Stockton native encouraged Bisping to defeat the latter.

Bisping, who scooped The Ultimate Fighter 3 tournament in 2006, would go on to clinch the undisputed middleweight title before the close of his lengthy career, as well as receive an induction into the Modern Wing of the UFC Hall of Fame.

The Manchester-born favorite has since turned his hand to analyst and color commentary work for the organization, after his 2018 retirement, making his pay-per-view commentary debut for the promotion earlier this year.

Michael Bisping recalls his first-ever meeting with Nate Diaz in an elevator in 2011

Hosting on his official YouTube channel – Bisping detailed his first-ever run-in with the aforenoted, Diaz, with the pair sharing an elevator ride, which ended with Diaz urging Bisping to defeat the above mentioned, Miller, following the infamous Strikeforce: Nashville brawl.

“I’m in Denver, Colorado – there’s a fight; Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson vs. Jon Jones,” Michael Bisping said. “I was a guest fighter, and I walk into an elevator, and there’s Nate Diaz. We didn’t know each other – there was a lot of other people in the elevator, it wasn’t like this weird, stone-cold silence. There was other people in there but everyone was doing that whole elevator-thing where no one talks and just stares forward, all a bit awkwardly.”

“And then as Nate Diaz got out the elevator before me – because remember the Strikeforce riot with Nick Diaz and Nate Diaz and Jason ‘Mayhem’ Miller and all the rest of it,” Michael Bisping explained. “As Nate Diaz walked out the elevator before the doors shut, he turns around and goes (points two middle fingers) ‘F*ck Jason Miller, f*ck ‘Mayhem.’ He was doing an F ‘Mayhem’ in a solidarity attempt in Michael Bisping attempting to dethrone him.”

Jason Miller has posted a lengthy statement on social media regarding his most recent run-in with the law.

Last month, CBS Los Angeles reported that ‘Mayhem’ pleaded guilty to vandalism and was immediately sentenced to 364 days in jail.

Miller has now taken to Instagram to explain his latest legal issue and confirm that he is no longer in prison.

“The reason I’m making a statement, first and foremost, is to apologize to my friends, family, students, and fans. I lost my way and let you all down, and for that, I am sincerely sorry. Also, I would like to clear up a few things that some media outlets misreported,” Jason Miller wrote.

“Firstly, contrary to reports, I am not in jail. I was in jail for a time while the authorities sorted out what actually happened, at which point I was released.

“A few years ago, following my previous incarceration, I went through a rehabilitation program. There, I learned some invaluable life skills. Committed to sobriety and taking care of my physical and mental health, I began to rebuild my life.

“After leaving the residential program, I founded what was becoming a successful martial arts school in Irvine, CA. I worked with some of the world’s best fighters at Bodyshop MMA. I was a regular on MMA Roasted, sharing my expertise and colorful commentary, and I had number of exciting projects in the works. But then I made some bad choices, for which I take full responsibility.

“I returned to an unhealthy relationship which grew toxic during the quarantine. I went back to self medicating, and spiraled. The day I tried to leave, I was met with false accusations. The police got involved, and I found myself back in jail. It felt like a horrible deja vu. The same circumstances, once again, led to the same consequences.

“My intention is not to place blame or make excuses. I knew the risks associated with returning, and that falling back into that lifestyle would have no positive outcome, so the onus falls on me.

“I know it’s crazy to return to a situation that is bad for you, but maybe some of you have been there and understand how two people who are terrible for one another can be inexplicably drawn together.

“During the countless hours I spent alone, reflecting, I came to realize that no matter how much I worked on my mental health or sobriety, I couldn’t maintain either while in a toxic environment.

“Before now, I didn’t have the strength to admit my issues with substance abuse and mental health. My hope is that by saying this publicly— being honest about my struggles as I overcome them to reach my full potential— that perhaps I can inspire others who may also be struggling to reach theirs, no matter the odds. Now that it’s out in the open, there’s no going back, I’m not just accountable to myself, but also all to of you.

“I feel better than I ever have; I have support system that cares only about my well being, and helping me succeed. I am excited to be back doing what I love; working with the fighters of tomorrow. I don’t expect your forgiveness, but I hope to earn back your trust.

“Thank you for reading this. I’ll see you on the mat at Fight Science LA.”
