Sean O’Malley tripled his fighter payout through various social media channels in 2023. Unfortunately, that also means he paid a hell of a lot more in taxes.

During a recent appearance on Bradley Martyn’s Raw Talk, the reigning UFC bantamweight world champion revealed that while he has made “a lot of money” in the UFC, a majority of his income comes through a series of side hustles, such as his TimboSugarShow podcast with longtime coach Tim Welch.

As it turns out, those extra gigs far exceed the money he makes from getting punched in the face for a living.

“My goal is always to become a multi-multi-multi-multi-multi-multi-millionaire,” O’Malley said. “I wanted to become — make a lot of money. You can make a lot of money in the UFC not talking sh*t, not really being on social media, doing all that thing. But you’re not — it’s gonna be harder when you have to win 5000 fights in a row.

“I paid more in taxes than I made last year in my fight [with Sterling],” he continued. “I made a lot of money fighting, but I made triple that from social media. From Instagram, Snapchat, Twitter, and all these different social medias. I made triple the amount I made fighting. I made a lot of money fighting” (h/t MMA Mania).

O’Malley’s only fight in 2023 was his bantamweight title-winning performance against Aljamain Sterling at UFC 292. The bout took place in Boston, Mass where the athletic commission discloses fighter payouts. Per the released information, ‘Sugar’ banked a flat $500,000 for his victory.

Sean O’Malley gearing up for a fight with top-ranked Merab Dvalishvili

Next on the docket for Sean O’Malley is a clash with the division’s top-ranked contender, Merab Dvalishvili. Riding a 10-fight win streak, ‘The Machine’ has long been considered the next man in line.

Merab Dvalishvili

“Merab’s on like a 10-fight winning streak,” O’Malley said. “One of the most boring guys in UFC history and he’s finally kind of changing it up a bit and kind of getting some attention now. I think Merab’s doing a good job. I think people are finding out they gotta be — I think Merab genuinely is kind of a goofball and I think he’s being like himself and that’s why it’s working. I don’t think he’s forcing it.”

No official date has been announced, but ‘Sugar’ has expressed interest in headlining UFC 306 in September when the promotion debuts inside The Sphere in Las Vegas.

UFC CEO Dana White busted betting on NFL games during ‘least fun fight anybody’s ever seen’

As undefeated Russian standout Movsar Evloev was bagging his 18th career win, UFC CEO Dana White was placing bets on a football game.

Back in January, Evloev stepped inside the Octagon for a featherweight clash with Arnold Allen as part of the UFC 297 main card. Despite walking away with a decisive decision victory, Evloev left a lot to be desired with his performance, leading White to call it “the least fun fight anybody’s ever seen.”

Movsar Evloev vs. Arnold Allen

A truly remarkable statement coming from a man who once sat through Namajunas vs. Esparza 2.

While White’s criticism is not entirely off-base, it turns out the UFC bossman may not have actually seen most of the fight.

“Dana said that my last fight was not entertaining,” Evloev said on the Badaev Podcast. “Maybe he wanted to motivate me somehow or dampen my championship ambitions a little. Then we talked with [American Top Team owner] Dan Lambert after the fight. He said, ‘Movsar, I was sitting next to Dana White during your fight, and he was watching American Football.’ He had apparently placed a bet somewhere during my fight. I told Dana, ‘I’m not here to amuse you, I came here for the belt.’ I’ll take the belt, and then we’ll see” (h/t MMA Mania).

Evolev’s story is plausible considering White is a self-described “degenerate gambler” who once lost a whopping $3 million in a single night.

Evloev has his sights on a uFC featherweight title eliminator with Aljamain sterling

Having won eight in a row under the UFC banner, Movsar Evloev is sitting comfortably as the promotion’s No. 5 ranked featherweight. No announcements have been made regarding the Russian’s next opponent, but a potential title eliminator with former bantamweight champ Aljamain Sterling appears to be in the cards.

The ‘Funk Master’ made his featherweight debut, delivering “the most dominant performance” of the night against Calvin Kattar at UFC 300.

Jan Blachowicz claims Jon Jones escaped fight with heavyweight move he was gonna lose

Former undisputed light heavyweight champion, Jan Blachowicz claimed fellow former division gold holder, Jon Jones “escaped” from a showdown with him with his heavyweight move last year – claiming he was in his fighting “prime” when the pair were on a collision course.

Blachowicz, a former undisputed light heavyweight title chaser, currently holds the number four rank in the division, remaining sidelined since he featured last July in a title-eliminator.

Dropping a decision defeat in split fashion to current 205 pound gold holder, Alex Pereira in Salt Lake City, Blachowicz recently underwent a surgical procedure to address a shoulder injury, ruling him from a UFC 297 rematch against Aleksandar Rakic, whom he holds a prior win over.

And staking his claim for a return against current champion, Pereira once he makes his comeback from injury, Polish veteran, Blachowicz hopes to land spoils for a second time in his tenure.

Winning vacant spoils back in 2020 with a vicious knockout win over Dominick Reyes, Blachowicz then defended the title successfully – becoming the first mixed martial arts fighter to beat former middleweight champion, Israel Adesanya.

Previously linked with a fight against Jones – particularly off the back of his rematch knockout over Corey Anderson, Blachowicz claimed the Rochester native “escaped” from a pairing with his decision to make a heavyweight leap.

“Right now I am heavyweight, so it’s easy to go to heavyweight,” Jan Blachowicz told Fanatics View reporter, James Lynch during a recent interview. “I would like to see (Jon Jones) fight against (Tom) Aspinall, (Alex) Pereira, and me. He escaped to heavyweight because I was in my prime when he left. He knew that if he meet me, he’s gonna lose. That was his best decision, to go to heavyweight.”

“He promised me this fight, so I hope so – someday maybe,” Jan Blachowicz explained. “Maybe in the gym, somewhere; in the backyard.” (H/T MMA News)

As for Jones, the former pound-for-pound number one is expected to fight Stipe Miocic in his return later this annum, however, has also welcomed the chance to defend his heavyweight title against would-be common-foe, Pereira in the future.

Who would win in a potential clash: Jon Jones or Jan Blachowicz?

“He’s (Conor McGregor) big nowadays,” Sean O’Malley said during an appearance on Raw Talk. “I’m pretty realistic when it comes to big guys. I’m like, okay, I’m a ‘35er. I stay in my lane and I do my thing. I could go up to ‘45 [pounds], I’d fight Volk (Alexander Volkanovski), I’d fight Max (Holloway), I’d fight Ilia (Topuria), but I stay in my lane.”

“Conor’s one of the only guys I would fight that I’m like that motherf*cker’s big,” Sean O’Malley explained. “I would just fight him at ‘55 [pounds]. First of all, it’s a huge payday, second of all, it’s Conor. That would be legendary. So, he’s one of the rare guys I would fight that are way out of my weight class.”
