One MMA fan paid almost 100k for a unique experience with Charles Oliveira.

During the annual Instituto Projeto Neymar auction on Monday night in Sao Paulo, Brazil, a Russian businessman paid a whopping $95,000 for an experience that will allow him to watch former lightweight world champion Charles Oliviera train for his next fight. But the fun won’t stop there.

The man, identified as Roman Shpigel, will then fly to wherever his next fight takes place and watch him cut weight before joining Oliveira’s team for the post-weigh-ins day. The package deal also includes two tickets to the event.

The UFC has not yet announced when, where, or who ‘Do Bronx’ will fight after coming up short against Arman Tsarukyan at the promotion’s landmark event in Las Vegas.

Aside from the experience with Charles Oliveira, Shpigel paid a hefty price for a couple of other unique offerings

This year’s auction broke last year’s record, bringing in a total of $5.1 million. For those unfamiliar Neymar’s institute supports around 3,000 kids and teenagers from Jardim Gloria, Praia Grande. Neymar, a Brazilian soccer star who currently plays for Al-Hilal in Saudi Arabia, was one of the top-10 highest-paid athletes of 2024 per Forbes with more than $100 million in earnings

He also announced an additional $5.1 million donation to Rio Grande do Sul, the Brazilian state recently affected by flooding.

Shpigel also purchased two other experiences, paying $190,000 to visit Neymar’s home and another six figures for an experience with Brazilian soccer team Flamengo and a barbecue at Leo Pereira’s house

Islam Makhachev offers to help train Charles Oliveira ahead of rumored fight with Colby Covington

Islam Makhachev is more than happy to show Charles Oliveira a thing or two on the mat.

On Saturday, June 1, the ‘Dagestani Destroyer’ will return to the Octagon for the first time in 2024 when he headlines UFC 302 airing live from the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. Meeting him in the main event will be Dustin Poirier, a hardened veteran determined to “finish his story” and claim Makahchev’s 155-pound crown.

Ahead of his clash with ‘The Diamond’ in The Garden State, Makhachev sat down with members of the press at the UFC 303 media day. There, he mostly addressed questions surrounding his upcoming fight, but there was one moment when Makhachev issued an invite to Charles Oliveira — the man he defeated for the lightweight belt at UFC 280.

Islam Makhachev

With rumors swirling of a fight between ‘Do Bronx’ and three-time title challenger Colby Covington, Makhachev invited his former foe to Dagestan, offering to help him hone his wrestling skills.

Islam Makhachev

“Charles is a good guy, if I can help him, he can join us in our camp in Dagestan,” Makhachev said. “He has very good striking, we can help him with wrestling.”

Charles Oliviera ready to test the welterweight waters after losses to Islam makhachev and Arman Tsarukyan

Of course, Makhachev and Oliveira are no strangers to one another. After scoring a second-round submission victory over the Brazilian in late 2022, the two were set to run it back at UFC 294 in Abu Dhabi, but a cut sustained whilst training forced ‘Do Bronx’ to bow out of the bout, paving the way for the Makhachev vs. Volkanovski rematch.

Oliveira cut

Since then, Oliveira has suffered another loss, surrendering a split decision to Arman Tsarukyan at UFC 300. With even more distance between himself and a shot at the lightweight strap, it’s possible that he could be looking to test the waters at welterweight.

Charles Oliveira welcomes welterweight fight after Colby Covington call out he talks a lot

Charles Oliveira may be ready for a change in scenery, and a move up to the welterweight division could give him just the very thing he is looking for.

Responding to a callout made by Colby Covington, Oliveira was asked about the prospect of moving up in weight and accepting that fight. Charles Oliveira smiled when he spoke about it and essentially admitted that he liked the idea of it. However, he also mentioned that it’s not really up to him, and the UFC would also have to weigh in on the matter.

Charles Oliveira

“Man, in reality, it’s like I said,” Oliveira began, speaking to Championship Rounds. “It’s sitting down and looking at legacy, history, values. You have to sit down. When I woke up in the morning, thousands of people were sending me messages.”

“I sent it to Diego (Lima),” Charles Oliveira continued. “And Diego said it too; I see what you think. I said, ‘Diego, just sit down, talk, think, see what’s good, see what the UFC thinks about it.’”

“It’s not just what Charles thinks,” the former lightweight champion said. “It’s about what the UFC thinks about it. Colby is a talkative guy, he’s a guy who talks a lot, so let’s see. Why not?”

When asked if he would be willing to move up in weight if the proposal “made sense” to him, Charles Oliveira also replied in the affirmative. “For sure, if it makes sense, if it’s something good for me, why not?”

Fans were ecstatic to hear about Oliveira’s potential fight and weight change. Many have said that there’s not much for the man left to do at lightweight and argue that a move to welterweight could be just the exciting change that he needs.

“We’ll make the biggest and best fight happen,” Colby Covington told Submission Radio. “I want legacy fights. I think a guy like Charles Oliveira makes sense. He was out there saying the other day that he wants to come up to welterweight. So, I’m the King of f*ckin’ Brazil, man. Everybody knows I run that f*cking country. So, all the women love me. All the men in Brazil want to be like me.”

“So, Charles Oliveira, you want this fight?” Colby Covington asked. “You want to really come up to welterweight. You want big fights? Let’s see if you’re about it or if you just talk or you want to come up here and walk the walk. Let’s see.”

We may not know when Tony Ferguson will step back inside the Octagon, but it sounds like we could see him hit the mat before then.

According to ‘El Cucuy,’ he was offered the opportunity to roll with former lightweight world champion Charles Oliveira at a future UFC Fight Pass Invitational event.

“Was offered a grappling match against good ol’e Charlie Olives AKA Chuck for @UFCFightPass Invitational,” Ferguson wrote on his Instagram stories.

With UFC Fight Pass Invitational 7 scheduled to go down on Wednesday, May 15, Ferguson was likely offered a spot on a yet-to-be-announced card.

Their potential grappling match would serve as a rematch of sorts after the two stepped inside the Octagon against one another at UFC 256 in December 2020. Oliveira earned himself a unanimous decision victory, handing Ferguson his second-straight loss.

Tony Ferguson convinced he can still compete at the highest level

Since then, Tony Ferguson has grown his losing streak to near-record-breaking seven-straight defeats. Following his latest loss to Paddy Pimblett at UFC 296, fans, pundits, and even UFC CEO Dana White called for ‘El Cucuy’ to lay down his gloves for good.

Unfortunately, Ferguson has failed to take the advice of his peers, remaining convinced that he can turn things around and get back to the version of himself that once rattled off 12 straight wins in what was the most talent-rich division at the time.

As for Charles Oliveira, ‘Do Bronx’ is fresh off a split decision loss to Arman Tsarukyan at UFC 300 last month. With the loss, Oliveira will move back down the lightweight ladder, paving the way for Dustin Poirier to step up and accept a fight with the division’s top dog, Islam Makhachev.

Still, Oliveira is sitting as the No. 2 ranked contender in the division, meaning one big win could put him right back into the title picture. However, ‘Do Bronx’ recently suggested that a move up to welterweight could be in his future.

“I do yous both in the same night, no sweat,” Conor McGregor posted on his official X account. “I do yous both inside a round. Combined. I got the magic paws, ask Rio and Sao Paulo about me and my magic. The Irish wand.”
