Chase Sherman

After the comments featured in this archived article were made, Chase Sherman would lose his next three fights and be released from the UFC. However, that’s not where his story ends.

He would return to the promotion in December 2018 and win his next four fights. Last year, however, he dropped two straight, first to Andrei Arlovski in April and then to Parker Porter in August, both via unanimous decision.

Tonight, Sherman looks to avoid a third consecutive loss when he faces Jake Collier in the co-main event.

Headline: Chase Sherman Would Rather Be A UFC Washout Than a One-Hit Wonder

Author: Fernando Quiles Jr.

Chase Sherman’s nightmare is to be a flash in the pan.

Sherman is coming off a unanimous decision victory over Damian Grabowski this past Saturday night (July 22). It was “The Vanilla Gorilla’s” second straight victory, which is much needed after losing his first two Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) bouts.

Speaking to the media, Sherman admitted there may have been more pressure on him this go-round because of his sudden popularity on social media (via MMAJunkie.com):

“It almost seemed like I had a little more pressure this time than last time because I don’t want to let my fans down. They invest a lot in me, and they’re constantly watching.”

The heavyweight is happy to turn things around, but if he wouldn’t have found any success in the UFC he would’ve been satisfied knowing that he wasn’t just lucky.

“I always want to prove them right. I always want to make them proud, make my family proud, make my friends proud. So there’s a little more pressure there because I told myself I’d much rather just go 0-3 and completely fail at it than be a one-hit wonder – to get that little bit of fame and then fizzle out and no one remember who you are.”

UFC heavyweight Chase Sherman has accepted a nine-month suspension from USADA after testing positive for anastrozole.

The drug is primarily used to treat breast cancer but is prohibited at all times under the UFC Anti-Doping Policy and UFC Prohibited List due to the fact it is also used by some to reduce the side effects of anabolic steroids.

Any athletes wanting to stay on the right side of the law should read more about supplement reviews before ingesting anything that is reported to boost performance.

USADA STATEMENT ON CHASE SHERMAN

“Upon being added to the UFC Anti-Doping Program, an athlete who voluntarily and promptly discloses the use of a prohibited substance prior to testing will not be deemed to have committed a violation if they test positive from the prior use. While Sherman provided sufficient evidence that his use of anastrozole occurred prior to entering the program, he did not declare anastrozole on his onboarding declaration form and therefore he faces a violation for the presence of the substance in his sample.”

“Sherman received an additional reduction to the period of ineligibility for his Full and Complete Cooperation. Under the revised UFC ADP announced on November 25, 2019, a Full and Complete Cooperation reduction may be granted in the event that an athlete demonstrates that they did not intend to enhance their performance and provided full, prompt, and truthful responses and information to all reasonable inquiries and requests for information.”

“Sherman’s nine-month period of ineligibility began on May 13, 2020, the date his positive sample was collected.”

“Sherman’s positive test also falls under the jurisdiction of the Florida State Boxing Commission, which is resolving the case in accordance with its rules.”

‘The Vanilla Gorilla’ made an impressive UFC return earlier this year dominating and stopping Ike Villanueva inside two rounds at UFC Fight Night: Smith vs. Teixeira. It is now likely that Sherman’s latest win will become a no contest.

Do you think Chase Sherman will retain his spot on the UFC roster after accepting this ban from USADA?

Chase Sherman will be returning to the UFC’s heavyweight division.

According to multiple reports, “The Vanilla Gorilla” is set to compete on the UFC’s upcoming May 13 event in Jacksonville, Florida. He will welcome promotional newcomer Ike Villenueva.

Sherman previously competed in the UFC from 2016 to 2018 where he compiled a 2-5 record with the promotion. He was released following a three-fight losing streak which included defeats to Shamil Abdurakhimov, Justin Willis and Augusto Sakai.

Things have been on the up for him since, however.

He would win his next three fights by TKO while competing for the Island Fights promotion to take his MMA record to 14-6. He would also compete in bareknuckle boxing three times as he became the the Bare Knuckle FC heavyweight champion back in August. He will look to continue his winning run in his second stint with the promotion.

As for Villenueva, the 36-year-old will be making his UFC debut after four straight TKO wins for the Fury FC promotion. His last victory was over UFC veteran Rashad Coulter in December.

The May 13 event will be headlined by a light heavyweight encounter between Anthony Smith and Glover Teixeira.

What do you make of Sherman returning to the UFC?
