The UFC is still looking to book a middleweight encounter between Jack Hermansson and Chris Weidman.

The pair were originally set to collide in the UFC Oklahoma City headliner on May 2. However, Hermansson — currently based in Norway — was unable to travel to the United States last month due to travel restrictions amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The event was later canceled.

However, the promotion is now attempting to secure “The Joker” a visa to the United States as it gets ready to resume its schedule next month.

“Right now, I’m not sure they will be able to get me a new visa, they are working on it and as soon as things are sorted, and the UFC thinks they can make it happen, so I’m sure they will,” Hermansson told MMA Fighting’s Eurobash podcast.

“I’m not too sure what day I got the notice [regarding traveling restrictions to the U.S.], but it was not unexpected. I trained hard for the fight, but I knew this could happen, but I’m still training and waiting for a new chance that it will show up.”

Of course, only essential travel is granted to the United States as of now, so it might be an uphill task for Hermansson to get his visa.

That is why while Hermansson is their top choice to face the former middleweight champion, they also have reserve opponents in mind.

“I am the matchup that they want, but at the same time they’re trying to get reserves,” Hermansson added. “That was the situation when we were supposed to fight as well. They had a couple of reserves in case I couldn’t make it inside the States, but then they postponed the whole thing anyway.

“Right now, I’m not sure. I’m speaking to the UFC and right now they still want to make the fight happen. I guess if they can’t make it happen soon enough they will have someone for Weidman.”

Hermansson is coming off a second-round TKO defeat to Jared Cannonier. He was previously on a four-fight winning streak.

Do you think Hermansson will be granted a visa and potentially end up facing Weidman next month?

Former UFC middleweight champion Luke Rockhold doesn’t see any incentive in fighting Jimi Manuwa.

Rockhold hasn’t competed since getting knocked out by Jan Blachowicz at UFC 239 in July last year. However, he recently revealed that he may be getting the itch to compete again.

This led to a callout from retired UFC light heavyweight contender Jimi Manuwa who is seemingly planning to come out of retirement.

But for Rockhold, it’s simply not an exciting fight.

“I didn’t see it [Manuwa’s callout], and what does Jimi Manuwa do for me?” Rockhold told Submission Radio. “What has Jimi Manuwa done? That’s not very exciting.”

Rockhold previously mentioned his interest in a rematch with Chris Weidman or a fight with Anderson Silva as potential options for him.

That said, the American Kickboxing Academy fighter now seems more eager to face Silva rather than Weidman as he explained how it nearly came to fruition a couple of years ago.

“I’m not huge on retracing my footsteps, let’s say that,” he added when asked who he would prefer over Weidman or Silva. “You know, sometimes it’s exciting to do that – I mean, rarely it is – but I like to pave a new path everywhere I go for the most part, and that should answer your question.

“… I remember back in the day he [Silva] had mentioned it, and the UFC wasn’t ready to put it together. And then I took that loss to Vitor, so that got delayed and Weidman beat me to the punch. And then I got into a position where I called him and he didn’t want it. So, maybe the time’s right. You never know. We will see. Like I said, I gotta do me first.”

Who do you want to see Rockhold return against?

Ray Longo was not impressed with Anderson Silva’s retirement comments.

In a recent interview, Silva claimed he was planning on retiring before his first fight with Chris Weidman back in 2013. He informed UFC president Dana White and Lorenzo Fertitta of his plans before revealing that they gifted him a Bentley Continental GT afterwards in what he believes was an attempt to change his mind.

It clearly played a part as Silva would eventually face Weidman at UFC 162 and end up suffering a second-round knockout defeat to lose his middleweight title.

And for Weidman’s head coach Longo, Silva basically admitted he sold out for a brand new vehicle.

“I mean, so basically what he’s saying is he’s a f*cking whore,” Longo said on MMA & Beyond podcast (via MMA Fighting). “And that the moral of the story [inaudible], and then for the rematch they gave him gift certificate to McDonald’s. They let him have a shopping spree at Target for the rematch. They bought him out. ‘Listen, I know you don’t wanna do this, but here’s a gift card to Starbucks.’ I don’t even understand what does that mean.

“Imagine that, though, when Dana and Lorenzo offered the Bentley and he took it, and then Lorenzo goes to Dana, ‘shit, we could’ve gotten him with a Chevy. We could’ve gotten him with a f**king SUV, a Honda SUV. Why the f**k we go with a Bentley, you f**cking morons?’ The hell is going on? [laughs]. After he lost the first fight, he drove the f**cking Bentley into a wall.”

Silva also revealed that he also planned on retiring if he defeated Weidman in the rematch and regained his title. However, he would break his leg and suffer a TKO defeat in the process. For him, that was a sign from above that he still had more time left in the sport.

“I would have stopped if I had won the fight, I wouldn’t fight anymore, but I ended up breaking my leg,” Silva said. “I think that was a message from God saying to me, ‘Look, man, you’re not supposed to stop yet. It took so long for you to get here and now you want to stop?’ I don’t know, I think those are subliminal messages that stay in your head.”

What do you make of Longo’s reaction to Silva?
