Jon Jones UFC 285 Ciryl Gane Betting

Ahead of his Octagon return next month at UFC 285, former two-time light heavyweight champion, Jon Jones still remains somewhat of a decent betting favorite to hand former interim heavyweight champion, Ciryl Gane just his second professional loss – in the former’s much-anticipated return to combat sports.

Slated to make his first Octagon walk since February 2020, Rochester native, Jones has been sidelined since he handed multiple-time title chaser, Dominick Reyes, where he managed to narrowly defeat the Hesperia native in a close, debated unanimous decision victory.

Vacating his undisputed light heavyweight crown in August of that year, Jones was expected to make an immediate move to the promotion’s heavyweight division, however, a Las Vegas arrest paired with a strict training regiment derailed plans for a title offing with former champion, Francis Ngannou.

However, following Cameroon puncher, Ngannou’s official departure from the UFC back in January, Jones was then booked to headline UFC 285 on March 5. against soon-to-be common-foe, Gane, with the two vying for the vacant heavyweight title

And ahead of the matchup, Jones remains a distinct betting favorite as high as -160 to land the heavyweight championship at UFC 285, with dynamic French striker, Gane sat currently as an underdog at +140. Betting on fights can be utilized across several markets both online and in person, with vulkanbet registration available.

To find Jones’ most recent occasion where he both opened and eventually closed as a betting underdog, you would have to back to his UFC debut and sophomore outings against Andre Gusmao, and the late, Stephen Bonnar – defeating both to boot.

As for Gane, the Factory MMA Paris staple and Fernand Lopez student has closed as a betting favorite himself in each of his Octagon victories – as well as in his first professional loss to the above-mentioned, Ngannou, albeit narrowly.

Rebounding from his heavyweight title unification loss to the Batié native, Gane stopped fan-favorite knockout striker, Tai Tuivasa with an eventual third round strikes in the promotion’s inaugural venture to France at UFC Fight Night Paris.

With the victory – which earned both Gane and Tuivasa Fight of the Night honors, the former retained his status as the number one ranked heavyweight contender, ahead of his vacant title matchup with Jones next month.

Successfully lodging three defenses of his light heavyweight crown before this impending move to heavyweight during his second reign over the 205lbs ranks, Jones was fortunate to defeat both Reyes, and the aforementioned, Thiago Santos in decision wins – after securing a comfortable retention with a triumph over Anthony Smith.

En route to his eventual interim UFC heavyweight title victory against promotional knockout kingpin, Derrick Lewis back in August 2021, landed impressive triumphs over the likes of Junior dos Santos, Jairzinho Rozenstruik, and Alexander Volkov – displaying tremendous striking throughout.

Tipped to hand Jones a considerable challenge at the heavyweight limit for his division berth, despite sitting currently as a betting underdog, Gane has been picked by many within the community, however, to potentially cause an upset and issue Jones his first legitimate professional blemish.

For the first time, a UFC event will be taking place in the French capital without the country’s only champion to date closing the show.

Mixed martial arts’ leading promotion is back in Paris this week, staging an event in France for the third straight year. The UFC debuted inside the Accor Arena in 2022, just under three years on from the legalization of MMA in the country.

On that night, former interim UFC heavyweight champion Ciryl Gane thrilled his compatriots by knocking out Tai Tuivasa. And “Bon Gamin” repeated the feat last September when he stopped Serghei Spivac with strikes.

This year, however, presents an opportunity for a different French standout to make a splash in the main event spotlight: Benoît Saint Denis.

Six months on from his defeat to Dustin Poirier in Miami, “God of War” will look to bounce back in front of a no doubt rowdy Parisian crowd when he shares the cage with Renato Moicano.

Gane’s Coach Explains Decision Not To Fight At Latest UFC Paris Event

During a recent interview with InsideFighting, coach Fernand Lopez commented on the UFC’s latest visit to his country and the fact that his star student won’t be a part of it this time around.

“We don’t have to talk about it with the UFC coming to Paris. It’s obvious that they want Ciryl to fight in Paris, and I was thinking about Ciryl fighting in Paris. This is what we talked (about doing),” Lopez said. “But an opportunity showed up with a better opponent in terms of ranking, a better opportunity in terms of pay-per-view, and better career constructions to go back to the belt.

“It makes sense for us to accept that opportunity. Ciryl already fought two times in Paris, finished his opponent two times in Paris, and enjoyed the moment to win in Paris,” Lopez continued. “I think for him, it is a new challenge to go to Abu Dhabi, a new different market, and for him to be qualified if they need him for the (title).”

Of course, plans have changed since Lopez made those comments. Gane will no longer have the chance to make a splash in Abu Dhabi next month following the withdrawal of Alexander Volkov through injury.

Instead, the Frenchman looks set for the chance for redemption in Las Vegas, where he was submitted in the opening round by Jon Jones in March 2023. His clash with Volkov is expected to be rescheduled for UFC 310 at the T-Mobile Arena this December.

Meanwhile, Saint Denis has the chance to close the gap on his fellow countryman when it comes to being France’s poster boy for MMA. To do so, he’ll need to return to winning ways at the expense of Moicano this weekend.

Jon Jones

Fans are less than a month away from seeing a new and improved Jon Jones inside the Octagon.

The former light heavyweight champion will make his first walk to the cage in over three years on March 4 when he headlines UFC 285 against No. 1 ranked heavyweight contender Ciryl Gane. The pair will battle it out to become the new UFC heavyweight champion after former titleholder Francis Ngannou took his ball and went home.

Ever since ‘Bones’ announced his move to heavyweight in August 2020, fans have been chomping at the bit to see what he can do in the promotion’s heaviest weight class. In just a matter of weeks, fans will get their first glimpse. Ahead of his highly anticipated return to action, Jon Jones detailed his body transformation over the last few years which included putting on 40 pounds of muscle.

“One of the hardest things was not being able to lose my shape while still trying to pack on 40 pounds,” Jones said during a Twitter Spaces with Kanpai Pandas. “I think when the fans see me, they’ll be surprised that I still look a lot like I used to — [although] my shoulders are a lot more broader, I freaking gained a whole bunch of ass, unfortunately — but just trying to keep that shape and doing it the right way” (h/t MMA Fighting).

Jon Jones Eyeing Long-Rumored Showdown With Stipe Miocic After UFC 285

Jon Jones knows that Ciryl Gane is not a man you want to look past, but ‘Bones’ admitted that he is looking forward to cementing his legacy against the general consensus heavyweight GOAT Stipe Miocic once he takes care of business at UFC 285.

“I’ve got my sights on Stipe Miocic,” Jones said. “I think it just means the most. There’s a lot of guys out there, but for me, personally, for my legacy, to defeat the greatest heavyweight of all-time, it just means the most to me. As far as how soon, hopefully I get out of this fight with no serious injuries, but I’d let to get [back] out there as soon as possible. My goal is anywhere from two to three fights depending on how it looks.”

The pair have been linked together as recently as late last year when rumors began to swirl that the UFC was attempting to book a showdown between Jon Jones and Stipe Miocic at UFC 282 in December. Of course, the fight never materialized, but it appears that Miocic is game for a UFC heavyweight title fight against the winner of UFC 285’s main event next month.

“March 4th – I like it. I got winner in July” Miocic wrote on Twitter.
