Interim UFC heavyweight champion Ciryl Gane wants Jon Jones next after “he beats Francis Ngannou” at UFC 270.

While Gane has his focus set on fighting Ngannou to unify the heavyweight title, he is also thinking about his future endeavors in the division. Both Gane and Ngannou are confident they will come out victorious this weekend over the other. Gane also has his sights set on Jon ‘Bones’ Jones, who has still yet to make his heavyweight debut after the fight against Ngannou.

Gane and Jones are similar in their style, as they are both very technical with their striking. Jones will definitely be watching this fight very closely, as he hopefully will be making his long awaited debut this year. Whether it is against Gane or Ngannou is something the world will find out January 20th.

Ciryl Gane is excited about a potential fight with Jon Jones if he wins at UFC 270

“This will be a pleasure if I win [at UFC 270] against Francis, yes I want to fight against Jon Jones,” Gane said at the UFC 270 media day. “This is the next one. A lot of people talk about that already because we are maybe the more well-rounded guys in this division and a lot of people talk about a technical fight. It will probably be a good matchup. Yes, if it’s possible, we’re going to do this.” (Transcribed by MMA Fighting)

Jones has not fought in the UFC since Feb. of 2020 against Dominick Reyes, were he won via unanimous decision. Many had thought that Reyes won that fight and it was razor close. Jones has had a few of those close fights recently that could have gone either way on the score cards. The fight against Thiago Santos is another perfect example.

A move to the heavyweight division may be what motivates Jones to get back to the dominant fighter he once was. He had spoken out about the light heavyweights and how they didn’t bring the best out of him since he did’t feel threatened by them.

Who are you pulling for at UFC 270? Would you rather see Ngannou vs Jones, or Gane vs Jones?

UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Glover Teixeira sees Francis Ngannou standing as the sole heavyweight champ later this year.

The current 205-pound champ was recently asked his opinion on an upcoming title unification bout between UFC Heavyweight Champion Francis Ngannou and interim champ Ciryl Gane. The fight is set to headline UFC 270, which will take place this Saturday.

Teixeira put value in Ngannou’s power over Gane’s fast, technical ability. Here’s what he said about the matchup:

“Wow, I’m excited for this fight. I want to watch this fight. And it’s gonna be like power vs. Muhammad Ali, right? But I would say George Foreman/Muhammad Ali [stylistically]. One is pure power; the other one [has] the technique. He flow; he jump around; he hits fast; he moves. So I see [Gane] like Muhammad Ali,” said Teixeira, in an interview with Sherdog. “But I [believe] the result is gonna be the same. In my opinion, Francis Ngannou is too powerful right now. He’s on a mission. And man, he’s getting better and better every time we see him. And in my opinion, he’s gonna win.”

Teixeira raises an important point about Ngannou. The current champion’s power has certainly been his key to success in the UFC.

Ngannou has fought 13 times since joining the UFC roster with 11 of those being victories. All of his wins have come via finish thus far. His last five fights have resulted in four first-round finishes, with the other just going another minute more than a round.

On the other hand, Gane is more familiar with going the distance. While he certainly has his fair share of quick wins, including his 2019 UFC debut win against Raphael Pessoa, he has already gone five rounds twice in his career. His last fight saw him take Derrick Lewis into the 15th minute of action before finishing him with strikes.

Do you agree with Glover Teixeira’s prediction?

Francis Ngannou, Ciryl Gane

UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou has a sparring story of his own in the lead-up to his fight with Ciryl Gane at UFC 270.

Ngannou is set to face Gane for the unified heavyweight title, nearly a full year since he first earned the title at UFC 260 over Stipe Miocic. The buildup has featured quite the back-and-forths with Fernand Lopez, his former coach while at MMA Factory.

Gane is now Lopez’s star pupil entering UFC 270 after Ngannou was kicked out of the gym and eventually joined Xtreme Couture in Las Vegas. One key component of the buildup has been the brief sparring sessions between Ngannou and Gane during their time together at MMA Factory.

During his UFC 270 pre-fight press conference, Ngannou told one reporter that he knocked Gane out with a high kick in a sparring session on accident.

Francis Ngannou Vs. Ciryl Gane Is Arguably The Biggest Heavyweight Bout

Ngannou and Gane will wrap up the first UFC pay-per-view of 2022 in an emphatic fashion at UFC 270. The heavyweight clash from a stylistic standpoint is arguably one of the most intriguing matchups in recent memory.

Gane earned the title shot against Ngannou by defeating Derrick Lewis for the interim title at UFC 265. He is undefeated in his MMA career and has earned big wins over the likes of Junior dos Santos and Alexander Volkov.

During a recent exclusive interview with LowKickMMA, Lopez claimed that Gane knocked down Ngannou in sparring with a knee to the body, although that footage has yet to be publicized.

The talk of sparring sessions will subside on Saturday night at UFC 270, as these two giants finally meet in the octagon. UFC president Dana White has called it the biggest heavyweight fight in UFC history, which is certainly a reasonable assertion.
