Heavyweight contender Derrick Lewis will not sit and wait for another shot at UFC gold.

‘The Black Beast’ fell short in his first UFC title bid.

Lewis was outwrestled and quickly submitted  by former dual-weight champion, Daniel Cormier in 2018.

Since then he has put together an impressive four-fight win streak.

The 36-year-old picked up the biggest win of his career last time out when he slept Curtis Blaydes with one punch at UFC Vegas 19.

During a recent appearance on The Joe Rogan Experience, Lewis spoke about what he wants next.

Most of all, it’s to stay busy and keep earning money.

“For me, I want to stay active,” Lewis told Rogan. “I don’t want to be waiting around to fight anyone, because I’m not young like I used to (be). So I don’t want to wait around and fight for the title or wait around to fight a certain opponent. I want to fight anyone who is ready.

“I know my window of time is closing to make money. I don’t have that much time left to make money, so I don’t want to just sit around.”

Ciryl Gane is a possible next opponent.

The undefeated Frenchman told LowKickMMA that he is open to a fight with Lewis, who also appears down to scrap.

“It all depends,” Lewis said. “I don’t know how the UFC wants to build up that Ciryl Gane guy or if they want to get him in there in the mix right away.

“I started getting tagged in the fight (clips on social media), because they said (Gane vs. Rozenstruik) still wasn’t worse than me and Francis. I’m like, ‘Damn. OK. Sh*t.’”

In an ideal world, Ngannou would win the heavyweight belt by beating Stipe Miocic at UFC 260.

Lewis would then rematch the Cameroonian power puncher with the title on the line.

“Yes for sure (we need a rematch),” Lewis said. “I’ve got to get that one (again). Yeah (I would like him next).” (Transcribed by MMA Junkie)

UFC heavyweight contender Ciryl Gane stretched his perfect record to 8-0 by beating Jairzinho Rozenstruik last weekend.

The undefeated Frenchman outpointed Rozenstruik over five rounds in a largely uneventful UFC Vegas 20 main event.

Gane despite facing some criticism post-fight, propelled himself into the title mix.

On Tuesday the updated UFC rankings revealed ‘Bon Gamin’ is now ranked at number four in the division.

Up next, it appears Gane will face one of two heavyweight contenders.

Derrick Lewis is one potential opponent. ‘The Black Beast’ is coming off one of the biggest wins of his career.

The KO artist displayed his ungodly power to stop Curtis Blaydes with one shot at UFC Vegas 19.

Lewis is currently riding a four-fight win streak and is potentially needs just one more to get another UFC title shot.

Another potential opponent for Gane is Alexander Volkov.

The Russian heavyweight made easy work of Alistair Overeem at UFC Vegas 18, stopping the legendary kickboxer inside two rounds.

The win was Volkov’s second in a row and cemented his place in the heavyweight top five.

In an exclusive interview with James Lynch of LowKickMMA, Gane broke down a potential fight between him and Lewis, he said.

“With Lewis, I’ll fight more like with Jairzinho. I fight with fight IQ, distance and yes be careful because with this guy he can knock you (out) with one punch. So just be careful.”

Gane also considered a potential fight with Volkov, he said.

“Me with Alexander Volkov is an interesting fight. He has a good range. He is really tall and he has really good striking. He has really dangerous striking. So, yeah, this fight is gonna be more hard than Lewis I think.”

Gane

In a largely tentative and tepid UFC Vegas 20 headliner, French standout, Ciryl Gane took home a one-sided unanimous decision win over a lacklustre, Jairzinho Rozenstruik, and off the back of his first promotional headliner, Gane plans to make a title run in the ever-evolving heavyweight division.

Utilising his almost unrivalled movement and distance management at the weight class, Gane took a straight forward 50-45 unanimous decision win on all three judge’s scorecards. And come the release of the official rankings over the course of next week, the Ferland Lopez and MMA Factory staple is likely to claim the faltering, Rozenstruik’s #4 rank at heavyweight.

Finding his way in the clinch on occasion, Gane dominated largely on the feet, as Rozenstruik failed to ever get his feet moving in a positive, forward pressing motion — as he looked to counter as usual off his back foot. Pot shotting the Suriname kickboxer on cue, Gane found his target with both oblique and stiff calf kicks, as well as a whipping jab from his southpaw right to comfortably outpoint the now 11-2 striker.

Following on the heels of Derrick Lewis’ stunning knockout win over Curtis Blaydes last weekend at UFC Vegas 19, Gane spoke with press assembled following last night’s win — detailing how he’s “legit” and how he plans to make a siege to the heavyweight title next.

I’m legit,” Gane said. “I’m undefeated and I’m the only one undefeated in this division in the rankings. I think I’m legit. I want to say it to everybody: In the next months, if you have a place, if someone has an injury, I’m here. I’m here, man.

Taking relatively no substantial damage against Rozenstruik, Gane had claimed that he would be open to filling in on short notice for either Stipe Miocic, or former teammate Francis Ngannou at UFC 260 at the end of March in a title clash.
If his services aren’t required on short-notice, however, Gane still has championship aspirations in the not too distant future.

I talked with my coach (Fernand Lopez) and he said if I win this weekend, I’m going to go after the belt,” Gane said. “It doesn’t matter who or how — we’re going to go after the belt now.

With the win, Gane improved to 5-0 in the UFC, notching previous victories over Raphael Pessoa, Don’Tale Mayes, Tanner Boser, and Junior dos Santos.
