Once a massive star in the world of pro wrestling, CM Punk attempted to take the UFC by storm last night (September 10, 2016). Making his mixed martial arts debut at UFC 203, (real name) Phillip Brooks faced Mickey Gall. Attempting to make a splash in the UFC welterweight division is hard enough, but with absolutely no MMA experience at all Punk got schooled. Following a lot of hype headed in to UFC 203, CM Punk was dismantled, pounded out and submitted by Gall.

The loss may not have come as a surprise to many, as people are much more aware of the UFC’s tendency towards money fights nowadays. The WWE has a massive following, and clearly the opportunity to capitalize on this factor is too much to resist. In terms of fighter safety, well, ask yourself this–would any other athletic commission have regulated this fight? The answer is most probably no. Except possibly Texas.

Bad Time For Punk in Cleveland

Having said all that, the negativity towards CM Punk is somewhat uncalled for. Yes, he did not look great in training, but who would at such an early stage of starting MMA? Perhaps this is a more optimistic point of view than what we really we witnessed. Either way, the former WWE superstar got squashed, and now UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor has given his two cents.

Speaking during an interview with TMZ, McGregor says he has new-found respect for CM Punk, who is not like the other ‘pussies’ from the WWE. Check it out:
“You know what? Fair play to him for getting in there and trying it. Not everyone can make that walk. He’s not like those other WWE pussies, I respect him for that.”

There’s been no official word on whether CM Punk still has a job with the UFC. Commentator Joe Rogan advised the ex-pro wrestler to start afresh with some amateur fights. What do you think?

CM Punk spoke with FS1’s Megan Olivi following his devastating loss in his Octagon debut to Mickey Gall at the UFC 203 PPV event on Saturday night in Cleveland, Ohio.

As Punk explains in the video, which you can watch above, he said he “thinks” he will have another fight despite the performance in his first outing last night. He spoke about looking forward to being able to eat and spend time with his wife and dog again, and noted he plans to take a vacation from the gym.

He reiterated the same point he made in his post-fight interview with Joe Rogan inside the Octagon last night, which is that in life it doesn’t matter how many times you get knocked down, it’s how many times you get back up.

Following Saturday night’s UFC 203: Miocic vs. Overeem event, TMZ Sports caught up with reigning UFC Featherweight Champion “The Notorious” Conor McGregor for his post-fight reaction.

McGregor spoke about Punk having the balls to step up and fight, but reiterated his point that WWE guys are “p*ssies” after also acknowledging that Punk “got his ass whooped.”

“Fair play to ’em, cause he got in there and fought,” McGregor said of Punk’s performance in losing via first-round submission to Mickey Gall at UFC 203. “And very few people do.”

“I admire CM Punk for taking the chance, I really do,” Rogan said. “But, it was delusional. That’s my feeling, it was my feeling watching him hit the bag, when I was watching him punch things. It’s not like he can’t ever learn, Visit Wrestling Inc.but there’s a journey as a martial artist.

“There’s a path that each martial artist is on and different people are on different paths. There’s a reason why brown belts don’t compete with white belts in jiu-jitsu tournaments. It’s not fair, and what we saw tonight was not fair. Mickey Gall’s way better, he’s really good.

“This is what happens when you take a guy who’s an elite young kid [Gall] and you have him fight a celebrity who wants to challenge himself, it’s not the way to do it… If I had to give CM Punk advice, I’d say, fight as an amateur, fight people at your level. I mean, he wants to do this, he wants to continue, God bless him, he’s a fun guy, I like him. But this is not the way to do it.”

Punk stated after the bout that he will be back again, but admitted he most likely would have to take some time off due to his injuries.

Gall called out fellow Looking For A Fight alumni ‘Super’ Sage Northcutt to a scrap at the UFC’s upcoming mega-show from Madison Square Garden in November for UFC 205.

That fight seemed to spark interest amongst the MMA fan-base, and apparently Sage’s team as well.

UFC President Dana White spoke to Megan Olivi shortly after the pay-per-view (PPV) event and revealed that the 20-year-old’s camp is also interested in throwing down with Gall:

“After he called him out Sage’s team hit me up, and they want the fight so we’ll make it happen. “

Northcutt (8-1) is coming off of a unanimous decision win over Enrique Marin at UFC 200 this past July, and is a young up-and-coming prospect who is competing in both the UFC’s 155 and 170-pound divisions.

The young Katy, Texas Native suffered his first professional MMA career loss under the UFC’s banner when he was submitted by Bryan Barberena in the second round of their contest back in January via arm-triangle choke.

Northcutt has since bounced back with a win over Marin, and a bout with Gall is certainly going to be a crucial test for both young men going forward in their professional combat careers.

The odds were skewed in Gall’s favor, and the actual result didn’t fail to live up to that billing in any way. Gall immediately shot for a takedown and completed it, opening up the floodgates for a brutal beating that eventually lead to a rear-naked choke submission, forcing Punk to tap in just 2:14.

It was a chilling reality check, and confirmation for those that believed Punk simply didn’t belong to be fighting in the Octagon. Nevertheless, the star pro wrestler said it was the second greatest of his life, and would be back.
