Marlon Moraes is itching to fight again. The problem seems to be nobody is willing to sign on the dotted line.

Moraes last competed in December when he won a controversial split decision against Jose Aldo. He was later slated to fight Petr Yan last month until the COVID-19 pandemic put a halt to those plans.

And with Yan now set to face Aldo for the vacant bantamweight strap at UFC 251 on July 11, Moraes is in limbo. It’s even more so the case as Aljamain Sterling — who Moraes knocked out back in 2017 — is all but slated to face the winner of that matchup.

Moraes Wants Cruz Or Garbrandt

“Magic” is not looking to remain on the sidelines, though. He has been looking to fight the likes of former champions Dominick Cruz or Cody Garbrandt in the meantime.

However, he claims they are refusing to accept a fight with him.

“I’m not the best making excuses! I was taught to say yes for every challenge. Get the F.. in the Ring and Fight. Enough is enough thats names available and they all saying No. what’s up? @cody_nolove fastest hands in all roster etc etc why No ???????? @dominickcruz best batamweight all the time etc etc why no ????????

“Am I wrong???? Would you watch these fights?”

Neither Cruz nor Garbrandt have responded to the post as of yet.

However, Moraes is certainly right in that either one of those fights would be worth watching.

What do you think of Moraes’ claims?

Cody Garbrandt Sean O'Malley

Tonight at UFC 269, both Cody Garbrandt and Sean O’Malley will be in action. They won’t be facing one another, however. In fact, they won’t even be fighting in the same division.

Despite the Twitter beef between the two men, the odds of them fighting are farther apart than ever before, even though the two squared up in the pre-fight press conference earlier this week.

Also earlier this week, UFC President Dana White openly stated that O’Malley is not ready to fight “top” opponents, even though O’Malley himself says he would have loved to have fought a higher-ranked opponent, with Garbrandt being among that list.

Just as Dana White is against O’Malley facing “top” opponents now, he felt the same way last year.

Headline: UFC President Dana White Shuts Down Cody Garbrandt vs. Sean O’Malley Talk

Author: Fernando Quiles Jr.

UFC president Dana White doesn’t feel it’s the right time to book Cody Garbrandt vs. Sean O’Malley.

O’Malley and Garbrandt have been throwing some verbal jabs ever since UFC 250. Both men scored spectacular one-punch knockouts that earned them performance bonuses. They then got into a fun back-and-forth over who had the better finish. Then, O’Malley expressed his belief that he can knock Garbrandt out. Obviously, “No Love” disagrees.

Dana White Puts a Halt To Garbrandt vs. O’Malley

O’Malley is still quite young in his pro MMA career. While many are calling for him to get a step up a competition, a bout with a former UFC bantamweight champion as dangerous as Garbrandt might be too soon. That’s the belief White shared during his appearance on The Schmozone Podcast (h/t BJPenn.com).

“The problem is, you take a Sean O’ Malley…first of all he has been off for a couple of years, young kid, just coming in, like where does he goes from here? You got to give this kid a few more fights before he gets to Cody Garbrandt,” White said. “If he fought and beat Cody Garbrandt, then he’d break into the top five, and very few people in their careers break into the top five.”

O’Malley’s pro MMA record sits at a perfect 12-0. He’s coming off a highlight reel knockout over Eddie Wineland. It’s the “Sugar” show’s eighth win by way of knockout.

As for Garbrandt, he put a halt to his flyweight plans after knocking out Raphael Assuncao. “No Love” now aims to work his way back to the bantamweight title picture. Defeating Assuncao put Garbrandt back in the top five 135-pound rankings.

While Garbrandt vs. O’Malley probably won’t take place at this time, don’t rule it out in the future. If O’Malley ends up living up to the hype and Garbrandt continues to bounce back, we may very well be seeing “No Love” vs. “Sugar.”

Sean O’Malley Won’t Be Fighting Cody Garbrandt Next – Dana White

A potential fight between rising star Sean O’Malley and former bantamweight champion Cody Garbrandt will not be happening next or anytime soon according to the UFC president Dana White.

Since ‘Suga’ and ‘No Love’ had high profile knockout wins at UFC 250 fans have been clamoring to see the two fighters face off. Both men have also played into the narrative and have exchanged jibes over social media and through interviews.

O’Malley who has just broken the top 15 at bantamweight has gone on record to guarantee he would knock out the fifth-ranked fighter in the world if they fought, he said.

“Yeah, absolutely, 100 percent. I feel like I’d knock Cody out. I mean, he looked more improved on Saturday. He looked like he was more calculated, more calm, he looked very much improved since getting knocked out three times,” O’Malley explained. “So, he did improve, he is high-level. He’s a very, very dangerous opponent and anyone that just throws bombs like that is dangerous. I feel like I’m calculated enough, accurate enough, and skilled enough to be able to knock him out. It’s a win-win fight for me.”

Speaking on the latest episode of The Schmozone Podcast White revealed he is focused on making O’Malley a future star of the sport, he said.

“He is one of the kids we are focused on and have been since the ‘Contender Series. He had some issues he had to deal with the last couple of years, which is brutal. But it’s given him a chance to heal up and here we are.”

While White recognises the talent and potential O’Malley posseses, he is keen not to rush the 25-year-old into big fights before he is ready – hence why ‘Suga’ will not be fight Garbradnt next.

“The problem is, you take a Sean O’ Malley…first of all he has been off for a couple of years, young kid, just coming in, like where does he goes from here? You got to give this kid a few more fights before he gets to Cody Garbrandt,” White said. “If he fought and beat Cody Garbrandt, then he’d break into the top five, and very few people in their careers break into the top five.” (Transcribed by BJPENN.com)

Chael Sonnen brought up the top contenders at bantamweight on his show “Bad Guy Inc” where he talked about two of the biggest winners of UFC 250, Sean O’Malley and Cody Garbrandt.

In the post fight interview, Suga Sean O’Malley talked about potentially matching up with Garbrandt. The eccentric Chael Sonnen went on to discuss this bout that will most likely take place one day.

“Did you guys see that Sean O’Malley called out Cody Garbrandt?” Sonnen said. “Now, I like that for a plethora of reasons – number one, Sean O’Malley is very on brand. As a matter of fact, he told Cody that he was getting better. He complimented Cody. When a younger guy compliments an older guy, in any walk of society, there’s something condescending about it, but guys, it’s a call out. It can’t all just be moonlight and canoes — there has to be a dig. That was one of the digs. He let Cody know.”

Sonnen went on to talk about the matchup, “I’d love to see that match, For many reasons, I’d love to see that match. I think that’s going to be possibly a hard one for O’Malley to get if you were to just go by the rankings. I’ve never bought into the idea fully, perhaps I should, that the winner of Aljo [Sterling] and Sandhagen would be the one to fight the winner of Aldo and Yan. The only reason I didn’t buy into it is because on that same card, you had the same weight class with Cody vs Assuncao — only that was two matches later! You don’t put your feature match earlier.” (Transcribed by BJPenn.com)

It seems likely that these 2 contenders will almost certainly square off in the octagon one day, but for their next fight? It doesn’t seem very likely, as O’Malley might need a fight or two before stepping up to fight a former champ. Or, you can make the fight while they are both red hot.

What do you think? Should the UFC make this fight next? How do you see this potential bout playing out?
