Belal Muhammad Blasts Colby Covington: ‘He’s a Joke – I Beg You, Let Me See You in Public'

Reacting to recent comments from former interim champion, Colby Covington off the back of his undisputed championship win, the newly-minted, Belal Muhammad has claimed it would be ‘on sight’ with the outspoken veteran if they meet soon.

Muhammad, the current undisputed welterweight champion, ended the run of two-time opponent, Leon Edwards last weekend in the main event of UFC 304, defeating the Birmingham native with a one-sided unanimous decision victory in Manchester.

Himself sidelined since he unsuccessfully challenged Edwards for gold in December of last year, Covington suffered his own shutout decision loss – with his most recent win coming the year prior in a grudge fight judging win against former training partner, Jorge Masvidal.

Welcoming the chance to take on former champion and still number one contender, Kamaru Usman – or the unbeaten finishing star, Shavkat Rakhmonov next in his first defense of the welterweight crown, Muhammad has hit out at Clovis native, Covington in brutal fashion.

“He’s (Colby Covington) a joke, right?” Belal Muhammad told MMA Junkie. Like, literally everything he says is a joke. What is he, 0-3 in title fights? All I needed was one time to do it. You’ll never touch the gold. You’ll never be who I am. Just keep talking, bro. You said keep that same energy when I see you. Please, I beg you let me see you. I beg you, let me see you in public.”

“Unless he actually fights any of these other guys, he’s not gonna get another shot,” Belal Muhammad explained. “But I hope he goes on a good run, beat some of these contenders and figures out a way to fight me in the cage. But all you’ve got to do is find me at a steakhouse and you’ll keep that same energy.”

Who would win in a future fight: Belal Muhammad or Colby Covington?

“I crossed paths with him about three months ago at NYY Steakhouse in Coconut Creek casino. I looked at him eye-to-eye and I said, ‘What’s up, b*tch? It’s on-site? Say something. Do something,’ and he just walked out of the restaurant because he knows [what would happen].” [H/t MMA Mania]

The US-born Colby Covington has had some impact words for the newly crowned welterweight champion Belal Muhammad. In a recent interview, Covington scorned Muhammad and accused him of taking steroids.

Colby Covington and Belal Muhammad

Colby Covington has thrice attempted to earn UFC gold but has been unsuccessful in all of his bids. Most recently, he earned a loss against Leon Edwards in a forgettable matchup. The American-born Covington was outwrested and outstruck for five rounds. Since 2019, he has had a UFC record of 3-3.

Palestinian-American Belal Muhammad recently defeated Leon Edwards at UFC 304 to capture the UFC welterweight title. Over five rounds, ‘Remember the Name’ Muhammad was able to outstrike and outwrestle Edwards live from Machester, England. Muhammad is now unbeaten in his last eleven bouts in the UFC’s competitive welterweight division, going back to 2019.

Always attempting to be controversial and outspoken, Colby Covington may be best known for his actions outside the octagon rather than in it. Most recently, in an interview with Submission Radio, Covington said, “I think I think it’s a one-and-done type thing. You know, he’s obviously on the right steroids right now. He’s doing the right cycles. So you know he had a one-night, lightning-in-a-bottle type performance. He’s the supposed paper champ right now, but no one cares, he doesn’t draw flies to sh*t. So it’s not like he’s going to make any money with that belt. He’s going to do as he’s told. And yeah, I think he will be one-and-done.”

“I don’t think anything special of Sh*t Rat,” Covington added. “I think that the way he fights, he fights very tall, very high up, chin up in the air. He almost got knocked out by the bus boy from Outback that’s serving Blooming Onions, Geoff Neal.”

“He got exposed in that fight and then he fought No. 9 ‘Wonderboy’ last fight,” said Covington, “I don’t know how that warrants a title shot. He’s finished a lot of nobodies, some jabronis from the amateur Indian casinos. He hasn’t fought top contenders yet, so I don’t know what to expect for him. There’s a lot of unknowns, but I know that I have the skill set to beat anybody in the world.” [H/t MMA Mania]

Do Bronx’ Charles Oliveira is looking to find his next opponent. The Brazilian-born athlete can’t quite make up his mind so he asked his fans who he should face next. The former champion is looking to bounce back from his split decision loss into a major fight.

Charles Oliveira Next Fight

On Instagram, Oliveira asked his followers who he should face next. He listed eight potential opponents: Conor McGregor, Dustin Poirier, Islam Makhachev, Arman Tsarukyan, Max Holloway, Justin Gaethje, Alexander Volkanovski, and Colby Covington.

Ireland’s Conor McGregor is one of the most popular figures in MMA history having been a former two-division champion. McGregor vs. Charles Oliveira would be a great action-packed matchup. Dustin Poirier is perenially a top-ranked fighter, the two met already with the lightweight title on the line. Islam Makhachev is the current lightweight champion who took the title off of ‘Do Bronx.’

Arman Tsarukyan is just off of a win against Oliveira, via a split decision. ‘Blessed’ Max Holloway, the former featherweight king, is an exciting figure but is likely booked already. The brawling Justin Gaethje, and BMF champion, could rematch Charles Oliveira. The former featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski has been bouncing up to lightweight with more frequency lately. Lastly, The Brazilian athlete lists Colby Covington, an outspoken welterweight contender who is not currently booked.

Charles Oliveira Record

‘Do Bronx’ Charles Oliveira is always an action fighter. As a young man, he developed Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu skills and has flexed these to a dangerous degree. Currently, he holds the record for the most submission wins in UFC history with an impressive 16. The 34-year-old Charles Oliveira has a record of 34-10-0 1 NC. Overall, he has won 21 bouts by way of submission and would later add striking skills to his repertoire and now has 10 victories by knockout.

What makes the career of Oliveira so impressive is that he reinvented himself after struggling. He won some one-night tournaments in Brazil before making his UFC debut at just the age of 20. He struggled in the featherweight division, and his career was plagued with injuries. Eventually, he moved up to lightweight then went on an impressive 11-fight win streak, and picked up UFC gold along the way.

Since losing his lightweight title to Islam Makhachev, he has knocked out Beneil Dariush and had a split-decision loss to Tsarukyan. Now, he is looking for another exciting matchup in his next UFC fight.

Charles Oliveira lost a razor-close decision to Arman Tsarukyan last time out at UFC 300, and he’s now looking for a new opponent.

With 19 post-fight bonuses, the Brazilian’s easily one of the most exciting fighters in the UFC and there are several intriguing matchups for him.

Oliveira bagged the UFC lightweight championship by beating Michael Chandler in May 2021. He defended it against Dustin Poirier before being stripped after missing weight prior to his victory over Justin Gaethje.

Since failing to regain the title in his clash with Islam Makhachev, he’s defeated Beneil Dariush and is looking for another high-profile win to get a another shot at the gold.

From Makhachev to Colby Covington, here are all the fighters that Oliveira is open to facing in his UFC return…

Oliveira Eyes Rematch Against Makhachev, Also Open To Money Fights With McGregor, Covington, Poirier

Oliveira recently posted training footage on Instagram and asked his fans to choose his next opponent. He’s willing to fight the following names on the UFC roster:

  • Islam Makhachev
  • Arman Tsarukyan
  • Dustin Poirier
  • Conor McGregor
  • Max Holloway
  • Justin Gaethje
  • Alexander Volkanovski
  • Colby Covington

Alongside the list, Oliveira declared his intention to fight shortly.

“Who would you like to see me fight next? The Lion is ready!!”

“Do Bronx” has already fought Tsarukyan, Makhachev, Poirier, Gaethje, and Holloway. While Makhachev submitted him in the second, he fought through adversity to beat “The Diamond” and “The Highlight.” The fight with Holloway ended due to the Brazilian sustaining a shoulder injury, and fans could look forward to seeing the rematch more than ever now.

The other matchups on the list won’t necessarily move the needle in the UFC lightweight division. McGregor has lost three out of his last four fights and will most likely return to face Michael Chandler. Volkanovski, meanwhile, is 0-2 in the lightweight division and has yet to rematch Ilia Topuria for the UFC featherweight title.

Covington is another opponent that “Do Bronx” would fight to entertain the fans. The former interim UFC welterweight champion decisively lost to Leon Edwards in his last fight and appears unlikely to fight for the title again.

Regardless of the opponent, it is safe to assume that Oliveira will bring the fight to the Octagon and give fans another gritty performance.
