Rumor: Nate Diaz Got Into Backstage Brawl At UFC 199

It’s no secret that last weekend’s (Sat., June 4, 2016) UFC 199 from The Forum in Inglewood, California, was a veritable showcase of blockbuster MMA action, starting with Dan Henderson’s legendary knockout of Hector Lombard in his home state, to Michael Bisping’s own shocking knockout of Luke Rockhold, to finally the jaw-dropping announcement of Brock Lesnar’s

It’s no secret that last weekend’s (Sat., June 4, 2016) UFC 199 from The Forum in Inglewood, California, was a veritable showcase of blockbuster MMA action, starting with Dan Henderson’s legendary knockout of Hector Lombard in his home state, to Michael Bisping’s own shocking knockout of Luke Rockhold, to finally the jaw-dropping announcement of Brock Lesnar’s return at UFC 200.

And to top if all off, the confirmation of the rescheduled rematch between Nate Diaz and Conor McGregor was revealed for the main event of August 20’s UFC 202, with Diaz appearing in the crowd to elicit a huge response from his West Coast fans.

The polarizing star also made quite an impact backstage at the event as well, as a report surfaced from MMA Mad detailing a backstage brawl between Diaz and Jason Guida, brother of longtime veteran Clay Guida, who lost to Brian Ortega at UFC 199. Apparently Evan Rodner, the producer of ‘The Fighter and the Kid’ podcast was on hand to witness what happened:

‘It looked like Nate Diaz got into an altercation with Jason Guida, Clay Guida’s older brother’ Rodner stated. ‘I have no idea what it was over, but all of a sudden there were a ton of bodies entering the tunnels in the back (of the arena). ‘After the scuffle had ended, Diaz walked back into the arena as though nothing had happened. he didn’t give on single f*ck’.

UFC welterweight Nicolas Dalby also reportedly saw the altercation, releasing a photo of his reaction.

Obviously Diaz is willing to throw down with anyone at anytime – whether it’s in the cage or not – and his 2015 scuffle with lightweight Khabib Nurmagomedov and his team prove the Stockton slugger’s commitment to stay true to his hard-life roots.

With a blockbuster rematch with McGregor, whom he famously submitted at March’s UFC 196, coming up, Diaz’ star level is at an all-time high, and this isn’t something that’s going to necessarily hurt that in any way, shape, or form.

In fact, it could just help him grow even more popular as heads into his second straight million-plus-dollar payday.

After all this time, hype, rumor, and speculation, you’d think that the UFC would have finally been able to get the Conor McGregor vs. Nate Diaz rematch booked for some point later this year.

The fight was set for the main event of July’s UFC 200 after Diaz infamously submitted McGregor at March 5’s UFC 196, but McGregor’s insanely publicized “retirement” fit that lasted all of two days after the UFC pulled him from the match for skipping media obligations caused the current windfall the MMA world is still heavily embroiled in.

So he did what any top-flight MMA champion would do, and he went and got “involved” with an unlikely superfight with also “retired” boxing great Floyd Mayweather Jr. While that bout has next to no chance of actually happening, the McGregor/Diaz rematch, which was tentatively targeted for August’s UFC 202, may now never happen.

Appearing on an episode of ESPN’s “Sportscenter” today (Thurs., June 2, 2016), UFC President Dana White declared that the promotion is still working on a fight for McGregor, but it’s been challenging to get a deal done for the Diaz fight:

“We’re working on what’s next for him,” White said. “We’re trying to set up a fight right now. It’s been a little challenging. Obviously the fight he would love to do is the rematch with Nate Diaz. I’m trying to get the deal done.”

White went on to add that McGregor is still “obsessed” with rematching the larger Diaz in order to avenge the loss:

“Conor is obsessed with this rematch,” White said. “I don’t know why, but he is. It’s just his type of personality. He’s obsessed with it. He’s obsessed with fighting Diaz again – at 170 pounds.”

But even though the UFC’s biggest star supposedly wants nothing more than to beat the Stockton slugger, White still isn’t sure if he can actually make the bout a reality:

“I don’t know if that will ever happen, but I’m trying,” he said.

There’s little doubt that White and his employees are giving anything but their best efforts in order to get the huge rematch booked, as the first one brought in an insane 1,500,000 pay-per-view (PPV) buys.

However, with Diaz appearing a bit unwilling to play ball for anotehr huge payday, and McGregor off doing his own thing, it could truly become a reality that the fight, which many proclaimed they didn’t want to see again in the first place, doesn’t actually happen. Do you care?

With lavish rumors about a potential boxing box seemingly cooled, the entire MMA community now awaits the announcement of Conor McGregor’s return to the octagon, but that isn’t going to stop “The Notorious” from relaxing and getting some rays.

Well known for his flashy sense of style, the Irish superstar never ceases to raise eyebrows with his always-changing wardrobe and accessories. But his choice of dress, which always goes against the norm, may have made him appear a bit creepy when he showed up on social media yesterday.

McGregor posted a photo of himself with longtime girlfriend Dee Devlin with a caption reading “beach life” on his Instagram, and some people are saying that the new glasses made “Notorious” appear a lot older and a substantial amount more creepy.

Have a look and decide for yourself:

By now, even amidst a flurry of borderline outlandish rumors that UFC superstar Conor McGregor will be taking on boxing legend Floyd Mayweather Jr., it’s more than safe to say that the “Notorious’” feud with lightweight veteran Nate Diaz has taken over the MMA airwaves, and in no small way.

Diaz only furthered the hype of the rapidly staling and overblown feud that features several odd dynamics we haven’t really seen from a UFC pairing before, during his revealing interview with Ariel Helwani on “The MMA Hour” yesterday, yet it doesn’t feel like we’re actually any closer to the bout being a reality.

To sum up the bizarre back-and-forth, Diaz submitted the Irish personality at March 5’s UFC 196 on only 11 days’ notice as a replacement for lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos, and the rematch was hastily booked at the champion’s request for the main event of July’s 200 despite Diaz stating he didn’t really want the fight again. The stage was set, but McGregor then “retired” for all of two days when he was pulled from the event for failing to attend a press conference in Las Vegas to promote the event.

It was clear a rift had arisen between McGregor and his employers, but McGregor un-retired as many predicted he would, the two sides met in Beverly Hills last week in an effort to presumably strike talks back up again, and indeed it appeared everyone was all smiles after the meet. Then came a similar encounter between Diaz and Dana White in Stockton, and things weren’t quite as hunky-dory as they had been further South down the California coast.

Diaz obviously wants to be paid like his Irish counterpart, the man he battered and submitted after losing the first round of their impromptu meeting at UFC 196; and there’s really not much argument that he shouldn’t. But there is the school of thought that McGregor is such a huge overarching star he simply provides a massive boost and draw to each and every opponent he faces win or lose.

FiveReasonsMcGregorLostToDiazPhoto

While there may be some truth to that, there’s also no doubt that Diaz is a draw in his own right, and his win over “Notorious” only furthered his already considerable following to all-new levels afterwards. His interview with Helwani did the same yesterday (although on a smaller scale), and Diaz is quickly becoming one of the biggest stars in MMA in his own right. He’s stepped out from his older brother’s shadow quite nicely, and while he couldn’t reach the worldwide level of exposure that he did and will with McGregor as his foil, the younger Diaz is most certainly a “needle mover” by himself as White once accused him not of him being.

Read on to the next page to see why that’s the UFC should just buck up, swallow their pride, and pay Diaz what he wants.

Without a high-profile card this weekend, much of the news in the MMA world has centered around the heavily hyped potential boxing match between UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor and retired boxing great Floyd Mayweather Jr.

It seemed to be taken to an all-new level this week when “Money” reportedly offered McGregor $50 million of just that to face him inside the squared circle, and “The Notorious” must have taken that as a sign, as he wildly proclaimed that Mayweather “needs him” instead of the opposite scenario.

The proposed super fight seems like a far-off scenario with McGregor under contract with the UFC, and indeed his next fight in the Octagon seems close to being booked after he met with the UFC brass this week, even if a similar meeting with his prospective opponent Nate Diaz, who infamously submitted McGregor at March’s UFC 196, didn’t go as well.

If it does somehow happen, however, there’s another high-profile MMA fighter that wants to try her hand at the sweet science on the card. That woman is Invicta FC featherweight titleholder Cristiane ‘Cyborg’ Justino, who recently made her UFC debut by decimating Leslie Smith at May 14’s UFC 198 from Curitiba, Brazil.

She was recently liked to a potential fight with rising women’s bantamweight contender Germaine de Randamie at July’s UFC 201 this week, but Cyborg is apparently playing hardball, stating she would rather defend her Invicta title at 145 pounds for some odd reason. And there could be another reason for that, because now, she’s apparently got some other plans in mind.

Justino spoke up on Twitter this weekend to volunteer her services for a spot on the potentially massive McGregor vs. Mayweather event:

The brutalizing knockout artist has previously competed in Muay Thai, and although she did lose to champion Jorina Baars, she’s definitely one of the biggest names in all of female combat sports. With that said, she hasn’t exactly been tested in the cage or ring outside of the Baars fight, so it’s a quandary as to exactly whom she’d potentially face in a boxing match as part of the undercard for McGregor vs. Mayweather.

She’s got the potential to be a huge star in the UFC, but Cyborg appears focused on boxing, telling TMZ that she already has a coach that will “have me ready.”

Do you want to see her box on the potentially massive event, or do you believe the fight is so unlikely that speculating on the undercard is pointless?
