Michael Bisping believes a fight between Conor McGregor and Nick Diaz makes sense.

Despite a recent sparring injury, McGregor is targeting a return to action later this year. Many feel if he cannot get a rematch with Khabib Nurmagomedov, the next best option is a trilogy fight with Nate Diaz.

However, Bisping’s podcast co-host Luis Gomez recently suggested Nick as an alternative and the former UFC middleweight champion agreed.

Although he was doubtful about the older Diaz brother returning to action, he believes McGregor should call him out regardless.

“That’s not bad. If I’m Conor, yeah call out Nick Diaz,” Bisping said (via MMA News). “Say listen, ‘I’ve already beat your brother, so come on big brother. Let’s go.’”

“I don’t think Nick Diaz is gonna take that fight though. I don’t know, well you probably do follow Nick Diaz on Instagram. My god, he’s having a whale of a time in Las Vegas, that guy. All he ever does is [party] at nightclubs, he’s hammered, he’s having a great time, he’s surrounded by pretty young girls. Why would he want to get back into the Octagon and fight? It’s a shame because the guy has real talent, but as I say you only get one life and he’s having a real f*cking good one by the looks of it.”

Could Nick Diaz Return?

McGregor’s fights with Nate resulted in two of the three biggest pay-per-views of all time. One can imagine the Irishman battling Nick would be lucrative as well.

However, it still seems unlikely. The last time Nick fought was against Anderson Silva in January 2015.

The closest he came to returning was when it was reported last year he would compete against Jorge Masvidal at UFC 235. However, it never came to fruition and there has been nothing new since.

At least the younger brother in Nate is returning after a three-year absence when he takes on Anthony Pettis at UFC 241 in August.

Nick Diaz Claims He Could Beat Both Conor McGregor & Khabib

Diaz is clearly not impressed by either fighter.

Nick Diaz claims he could beat both Conor McGregor and Khabib Nurmagomedov if given the chance to fight them.

Diaz On The Bench

Diaz has not been seen in the Octagon since his bout with Anderson Silva in January 2015. This fight was later overturned to a no-contest after Silva tested positive for banned substances. Diaz also failed a drug test in relation to that fight for ********* and was suspended 18 months by the Nevada Athletic Commission (NAC).

Prior to that fight, he suffered losses to Carlos Condit at UFC 143 and Georges St-Pierre at UFC 158. Despite his recent slump, the UFC and its President Dana White will be glad to have him back as he is a PPV draw.

Nick Diaz Claims

Diaz was recently interviewed by TMZ while out at a club on Wednesday night. First off he was asked if his recent USADA suspension was upsetting to him considering that he could have fought in some big fights and made some money.

“There wasn’t nobody to fight anyways for me,” Diaz says … “Ain’t nobody out there. Everybody out there ain’t sh*t right now.”

Diaz then switched gears by stating that he believes not only that he could beat the former UFC lightweight and featherweight champion as well as Nurmagomedov but also UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley.

“I’ll beat all those guys. All those motherf*ckers.” On Woodley, “I’ll whoop his *** too. He’s too boring.” And finally, Conor vs. Khabib, “I’ll beat both of them. Both they asses … THEY’RE NOT THAT GOOD!”

UFC 202 went down in Las Vegas last Saturday August 20. The main event was the long awaited rematch between Nate Diaz and Conor McGregor, and did not disappoint. Following Diaz’s submission win over McGregor at UFC 196, the Irishman was out for revenge. MMA fans were treated to a five-round war at UFC 202, and vengeance was sweet for McGregor. Although its been debated in the time since, ‘The Notorious’ took home the majority decision win.

For Diaz its probable he’ll take some time off. After appeals for an immediate rematch were shot down, it was clear the promotion had other plans for McGregor. The Irish star is yet to defend the featherweight title, but that may not change anytime soon. UFC president Dana White revealed plans for a lightweight title clash featuring McGregor soon after UFC 202. Jose Aldo is probably not a big fan of this potential super fight.

The McGregor Show

After a brief detour, the Conor McGregor show is back on the road again. With the score evened against Nate Diaz, its back down the weight classes with a possible stop in the lightweight championship bout with Alvarez. UFC color commentator Joe Rogan made an interesting comment on social media the other day, claiming he’d love to see McGregor face Nick Diaz next.

Furthering that post during his recent podcast, Rogan said he literally wants to see that fight more than anything else in the world right now.
“This is what I want to see; I want to see Nick Diaz vs. Conor McGregor. I want to see that more than I want to see anything in life. More than I want to see the Aroura Borealis, more than I want to revisit the Milky Way–I want to see NICK DIAZ vs. CONOR McGREGOR.”

Thankfully it wasn’t only Rogan’s fantasies we heard about during this episode of The Joe Rogan Experience. The UFC commentator also gave a breakdown and recap of the UFC 202 main event. For casual fans that may be wondering why McGregor didn’t follow Diaz to the ground when he scored knockdowns, here’s Rogan’s analysis.

Not Going Down

“He was awesome. He’s a bad motherf*cker dude. Nobody gets a first round knockout against Nate Diaz, it’s going to be a war. He knew it, he had to be conservative. It was insane, like nothing ever. He doesn’t need to go down to the ground with (Nate). If you do that with a guy like Nate Diaz, he might not be hurt at all. Conor f*cked up Nate’s right leg with kicks.”

“He’s just getting chewed up with this left leg kick. It makes it super difficult to move. Conor just fought a smooth and smart game plan. He didn’t unload himself, in the first fight he did that and his gas tank emptied. He ran away, you can say that, but it’s OK.”

Running?

Nate Diaz and many of his fans reacted angrily to Conor McGregor ‘running away’ from exchanges during their fight. You could view this tactic two ways–As Diaz says ‘he was scared,’ or McGregor was simply avoiding Diaz’s biggest strength. Why trade with a guy against the fence when this is his best option in the striking exchanges?
