Conor McGregor is looking great ahead of his return to 170 pounds later this month.
“The Notorious” will take on Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone in the UFC 246 main event from Las Vegas, Nevada on January 18. It will be the Irishman’s first fight back since his October 2018 submission loss to Khabib Nurmagomedov.
Recently, McGregor took to Instagram to share some photos of his physique ahead of his return to the 170-pound weight class. You can check them out below, which McGregor captioned with “11 days.”
McGregor has been in Las Vegas for several days now in preparation for his bout with Cerrone. It will certainly be an interesting matchup, as both men love to stand in the center of the Octagon and exchange. However, should Cerrone decide to take the fight to the ground, things could get very interesting.
UFC president Dana White has also suggested that, should McGregor win, he’ll be next in line for the 155-pound title. However, with other potential money fights, such as a clash with BMF Champ Jorge Masvidal, also possible, there’s no telling what’s in store for McGregor in 2020.

2019, the breakout year for Jorge Masvidal got him recognised as one of the biggest MMA stars of the recent times. He has a good number of options in 2020 too, and is well aware of it. Now all he needs to do is sit back and watch how the chips fall.
Despite being the top contender to take on Kamaru Usman for the welterweight division championship, his name value is such that he is in a good position to ask for a bout against Conor McGregor as well. The Irish star makes a return to the octagon against Donald Cerrone, on January 18, 2020 at UFC 246, in T-Mobile Arena.
Although Masvidal has both the options available to him, in a recent interview to the press he made it clear who he would like to fight first. In his opinion, there’s not much juice left in Coral McGregor and he won’t continue to be an elite name for very long. Therefore, if ‘The Notorious’ goes on to beat the ‘Cowboy’ in Las Vegas on Jan 18, he would like to face the Irish man first. UFC being one of the most regularly bet on Martial sports throughout the world, the fight is expected to draw a large amount of betting interest at bookmaking portals everywhere.
Making an appearance on the Ariel Helwani’d MMA Show, Masvidal said he would go for the Conor fight as it would not be available to him in the future. He believes that Usman will always be available and the fight against him is going nowhere. If not Usman, someone else will have that belt and he would fight that other person instead.
He further informed that there is a good possibility that he will attend the UFC 246 battle between Conor McGregor and Donald Cerrone. In his opinion, it will give him an opportunity to watch his potential next fighter’s moves first hand. He also clarified that he will not chase the McGregor fight too aggressively in the event that Irishman does win that bout, leaving the onus of making the fight happen on McGregor instead.
Masvidal made it pretty clear that he would like to fight McGregor because it would be a big-money fight, but wouldn’t like to face anyone who isn’t interested in going up against him. He accepted McGregor is a two-time division champion and holds an impressive record; so their bout will inevitably be a sell-out affair and a violent one too.
In the event that McGregor fight doesn’t happen, Masvidal informed that he’d be more than happy to go ahead and fight Usman to win his first ever undisputed UFC championship. Usman on the other hand has stayed unbeaten ever since he joined the UFC, delivering 11 straight wins. He has been continuously taunting Masvidal after successfully defending his title against Colby Covington in December. Masvidal would be more than keen to give him a reply in the ring.

Everyone is ready for UFC 246 later this month (Sat. January 18, 2020). In the main event of the pay-per-view (PPV), Conor McGregor will make his highly-anticipated return, taking on Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone at 170 pounds.
It will be McGregor’s first fight back since suffering a submission loss to Khabib Nurmagomedov in October of 2018. One man who will likely be in attendance is Jorge Masvidal, the UFC’s BMF Champion. Masvidal recently spoke to ESPN’s Ariel Helwani on “The Ariel Helwani MMA Show” to offer his take on the matchup. “Gamebred” said he thinks McGregor can catch Cerrone, who is a slow starter, early to put things away. “It can go many ways,” Masvidal said. “Conor is great off the block. He’s phenomenal off the start. ‘Cowboy’ is a slow starter. Conor has tremendous speed and timing in the beginning, good power, so I think he can catch him early.”
However, Masvidal does admit that there is a path to victory for Cerrone through his grappling. If Cerrone comes out looking to grapple early with McGregor, mixing things up in the process, we could be in store for a masterful performance from “Cowboy.”
“If ‘Cowboy’ comes out to grapple like he has in the past with decent strikers and even good grapplers like Rick Story, who he was able to take down and create a lot of offense like that … if that ‘Cowboy’ comes out, he can mix things up real nice. And then he can start to flow and get into his game of high kicks and punching and being tricky, like a dual threat to Conor.”
Cerrone has said, however, that he plans to come out and bang with McGregor. If that’s the case, Masvidal sees McGregor getting the job done within two rounds.
“If (Cerrone) just comes out to fight it out, I see Conor winning within the first two rounds.”
