Ahead of his own return at UFC 303 later this month, former two-weight champion, Conor McGregor has hit out at UFC 302 headliners, Islam Makhachev and Dustin Poirier – claiming the pay-per-view event landed just a $500,000 buy rate.
McGregor, a former undisputed lightweight and featherweight gold holder, has been sidelined since he fractured his left tibia and fibula back in 2021 against the above-mentioned, Poirier, dropping a first round doctor’s stoppage TKO defeat in the process.
Headlining UFC 302 earlier this month in New Jersey, pound-for-pound number one, Makhachev would land his third successful defense of his lightweight crown in a submission win over the previously mentioned common-foe, Poirier.
Latching onto a fifth round D’Arce choke submission, Makhachev forced a final frame tap from the former interim champion, before eventually choking him unconscious in an adversity-filled pairing between the duo.
Conor McGregor claims UFC 302 landed just $500,000 in PPV buys
Confirmed as turning in a $7,000,000+ gate at the Prudential Center in Newark, according to former duel-weight champion, McGregor, UFC 302 garnered just $500,000 in pay-per-view buys – much to his delight.
“500k ppv buys [UFC] 302 done,” Conor McGregor posted on his official X account. “A nothing burger.”
Without a victory since 2020, McGregor’s most recent win came in the form of a first round knockout win over former lightweight title challenger, Donald Cerrone in a welterweight pairing – with the Hall of Fame star landing himself in hot water this week with some controversial comments about Russian nationals and Muslims.

Ali Abdelaziz, the manager of Islam Makhachev says Conor McGregor needs to fully focus on fighting if he wants to fight for the lightweight title again.
McGregor is scheduled to return to the Octagon on June 29 against Michael Chandler at welterweight. Although there were worries the fight would be off, as of right now, the bout is still happening.
Should McGregor get his hand raised, the Irishman would have massive fights looking for him. One possible fight is Islam Makhachev and Abdelaziz says the lightweight champ wouldn’t say no to a McGregor fight.
“Conor might go there and knock out Chandler in the first round,” Abdelaziz told Submission Radio. “And after that, he’s one of the biggest stars in the sport. Like him or hate him, he is. And if he tells the UFC, ‘Hey, I want a title shot, Islam want a title shot.’ That can be the next title shot. Islam’s not gonna say no to this fight. It’s a big fight, it’s a big name, it’s a lot more money.
“The guy’s a massive star,” Abdelaziz continued. “I think he’s a piece of s—, but he is a massive star. You can’t take this away from him. With the history with Khabib, and with him and with Islam, it will be all over again. It’ll be all over again and it’ll be one of the biggest fights you can make today. One thing I know about Dana White, he likes money and he likes business. That’s why the UFC is so big right now. You have Dana, you have Hunter [Campbell], you have Sean [Shelby], you have Mick [Maynard]. They are great minds, and they put on the biggest fights that can sell the most pay-per-views. Why not? Absolutely. Listen, it’s very possible.”
Conor McGregor enters the bout with Michael Chandler as a slight -102 underdog.
Ali Abdelaziz wonders if Conor McGregor is serious about fighting
With Conor McGregor being as rich as he is, many have wondered if the desire to train and fight is still there. That is also a question that Abdelaziz has as he wonders if McGregor is serious about fighting.
“But, you know, Conor has to get off the bottle and he has to leave the drugs alone and focus,” Abdelaziz said. “And yeah, he’s definitely… the guy was a two-division champion, and he has talent. But is the hard work now there or not there anymore? You have to ask him this question.”
Conor McGregor hasn’t fought since July of 2021 when he broke his leg in the trilogy match against Dustin Poirier.

It always seemed inevitable that Sean O’Malley and Conor McGregor would beef one day, and now that beef has manifested itself. McGregor took to social media regarding the controversies surrounding Ryan Garcia, and O’Malley (a former associate of the man) was drawn into the mix.
Sean O’Malley most recently defended his UFC bantamweight title against Marlon ‘Chito’ Vera at UFC 299. He is currently riding a 6-0-1NC streak in the UFC and has cemented himself as a true bantamweight phenom.
O’Malley has accrued much suspicion, though, about his authenticity as a true combat sports star. McGregor went on a Twitter (now called X) rampage and called out Ryan Garcia for failing a test for PED’s around the time of his fight with Devin Haney. Since O’Malley failed a test for the same substance in 2019, ‘The Notorious’ did not hesitate to mention his name as well.
Conor McGregor and Sean O’Malley come to words over PEDs
After his Twitter escapades, McGregor would eventually calm down and try to pacify this newly created beef, saying that he “liked” O’Malley and ‘Suga’ was just an innocent bystander of his rage.
Sean O’Malley was asked about this rivalry and was very honest in his response. He claimed that he and McGregor had not spoken personally, but he holds no ill will towards the man he still considers a little bit of an idol.
“I jokingly on my podcast said we talked, we’re good,” O’Malley told MMA Fighting. “I haven’t talked to him since.”
“I’ll forever be a massive Conor fan. The biggest fan, watched his career play out, watched every single interview possible. I learned a ton from him. He’s a legend. That’s it. It is what it is.”
Regardless of the situation, fans can never fail to recognize what Conor McGregor did for the sport of MMA. Sean O’Malley continues to try and uphold this legacy, and his sentiment is a very sweet one.
What do you think about the way O’Malley has handled this “beef”?

Amid the speculation regarding his comeback fight at UFC 303 just weeks away, former two-weight champion, Conor McGregor has assured fans that they would see him compete “soon” – with the Dubliner scheduled to take on Michael Chandler in a month-end battle.

“He (Conor McGregor) is historically always a very exciting, explosive guy right out of the gate,” Michael Chandler explained. “I promise you I will be explosive and run toward the center of that Octagon on June 29. right when the fight starts. You’re going to see two guys who are going to get into a head-on collision car crash,” Michael Chandler continued. “May the best man win.”
